It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 21
Lucia clearly didn’t have much stuff. All of her makeup accessories and clothes could easily fit into a small suitcase and purse.
She took one last look at the apartment where she lived for six years. It was a simple one-bedroom apartment. She had bought the potted plants that were on the windowsill and changed the curtains to a cooler color that she really liked. The sheet and blanket had a print of a cartoon character that she also really liked. Despite this, Lucia didn’t want to take any of this with her. She preferred to leave them there, as a token of her memories, rather than take them away.
She walked over to her dresser and grabbed all her skincare products and casually put them in her bag. That’s when she noticed the delicate jewelry box. It was a sandalwood box, dark red. Flower patterns were engraved on it. They were so vivid that she couldn’t stop touching them. The box also had a very small antique lock. An attentive eye would quickly see that it was made of pure gold.
Gazing at the magnificent lock, Lucia thought that it would be difficult to carve such a delicate design on the gold lock using modern tools. The key was hanging from the lock. It was as if this key was asking Lucia to open the box.
This box was actually the only souvenir Lucia had of her family. The director of the orphanage had given it to her when she turned eighteen. When she first saw this box, Lucia felt a wave of emotions previously unknown to her wash over her. She then felt like she had found a purpose for her existence. Was it the power of her mother’s love for her that made her feel this way?
In the box, there was a beautiful jade bracelet that shone in the sunlight. Just by looking at the bracelet, Lucia could tell that it was a very expensive piece and of excellent quality. When she first looked at this bracelet, she was so stunned that she had to take a moment to catch her breath. She then told herself that she could always sell it and become a millionaire if she couldn’t make a living on her own. The bracelet gave off a faint glow in his hand as if it possessed a soul.
Apart from this bracelet, there was a note in the box. The note was written in beautiful calligraphy and consisted of only one sentence. Lucia was deeply impressed and moved when she read it.
It said: “If we are destined to meet, we will meet again.” »
She then asked the director of the orphanage to find out the history of the bracelet. The director had told her everything he knew about her story, namely that a couple had left her at the door of the orphanage and that she was suffering from a fever at the time. They had left her there with a note that had her name and date of birth written on it, along with the box. They also asked the director to give him the box when he turned eighteen.
Oddly enough, after she recovered from the fever, a doctor had her undergo a battery of tests for various illnesses, it turned out that she was suffering from nothing. He then asked her about her parents and where she lived, but she didn’t remember anything. The doctor had described his amnesia as an after-effect of the high fever. After all, it was understandable that a five-year-old child who had just recovered from a violent fever would not remember such things.
Lucia subsequently lived at the orphanage until she came of age.
Even though life wasn’t always easy for her there, she was happy at the time. At the very least, she didn’t feel like a canary caught in a cage. The harsh environment of the orphanage only helped her become stronger. She was like a weed that was unaffected by the blazing sun or harsh wind. Sophia often compared him to the phoenix which always rises from its ashes.
As all these memories ran through her mind, Lucia looked at the box in silence. She placed a hand on it and caressed it delicately. She always felt like this box took her breath away. Was it because of the strong emotions attached to it? Shaking her head, Lucia finally put the box in her bag. When she looked around the apartment again, she had the impression that it was empty. It was almost as if there was no trace of her left.
Regardless, now was not the time for her to think about such things. First of all, she had to find accommodation. She frowned as she looked through her phone contacts. There weren’t many people she could turn to for help. Although they could accommodate her, she didn’t want to disturb them. After thinking for a while, she finally called someone.
“I’m surprised you found the time to call me, Lucia! » Zack said in a flirtatious voice.
“Let me stay at your villa for a while until I find an apartment.” » Lucia thought it best not to beat around the bush.
“Hmm…” Zack took a moment to think, as he felt something was odd.
“Is there some sort of understanding between Malcolm and Lucia? » he asked himself. It had only been a few minutes since he spoke to Malcolm on the phone, and now Lucia called him. Malcolm had warned him that under no circumstances should he let Lucia in, regardless of their past relationship. Shortly after, Lucia called him to ask for a place to stay.
“Are you with anyone?” » Lucia asked bluntly with raised eyebrows.
“No,” Zack replied immediately. “If I let you stay at my place, Malcolm will come after me afterwards.” I don’t know why you moved out of your apartment, but if you did it to escape it, then you should know that it’s useless. You have to be strong and face whatever you are dealing with. » It was very rare for Zack to speak so seriously.
” It’s a long story. And it wasn’t to hide from him that I left my apartment. I can’t hide from him while I’m in S City.” Lucia’s face darkened. However, she did not deny her original plan. The truth is that she wanted to end her overwhelming desire to be with Malcolm.
For her, falling in love with him would be like falling into a pit of fire. She just couldn’t allow her body’s desire to control her mind, making her want more every time. In the game of cat and mouse, the cat may not always win and the mouse may not always get caught. But if they let l**t get the better of them, then they would definitely end up falling into a vicious cycle without even realizing it.
Malcolm was like a dessert she could only taste once. If she had too much, then she might become addicted to him. Deep down, Lucia was indeed hungry for him.
“My villa is all yours. You can stay there as long as you want,” Zack said. He didn’t try to find out more. After all, it was their private life, and it was not appropriate for him to interfere. What’s more, he didn’t want to offend Malcolm. This could only get him into trouble.
“Thank you,” Lucia replied in a soft voice.
She was infinitely grateful to Sophia and her brother. The reason she had become so close to Sophia was because she was really easy to get along with. They both had completely different personalities. Lucia was someone who didn’t really care about anything, but Sophia was the complete opposite of her. The latter would easily be interested in everything, even the craziest things, like archaeology. It was a surprise to both of them that they got along very well at first contact, and now they were best friends.
Lucia had been shocked when she discovered that Sophia was from the Young family. The reason for this was that she never thought that a high society girl like Sophia could be interested in digging up corpses. It only took a smile to create the bond that remained to this day, an unwavering friendship.
After gathering her things, Lucia went downstairs and returned her keys to the owner. She then waited for a taxi to drop her off at Zack’s villa. She had calculated everything well. However, when she came downstairs, she saw a Land Rover car that looked familiar parked in front of the building.
Malcolm was leaning against the car, his hands in his pockets. He looked at her calmly through his sunglasses. He didn’t say a word, though, and the sunglasses hid his piercing gaze. It was therefore impossible for Lucia to guess what he was thinking.
She stopped short when she saw him, and was staring at him with a troubled face.
“Piss off, Zack… He betrayed me the moment I hung up the phone. Damn it! » Thinking about it, Lucia wanted to kill Zack in a thousand horrible ways.
Malcolm walked towards her slowly, raising his eyebrows. It looked like a leopard advancing towards its prey. He didn’t want to scare her, but he didn’t want to let her escape either.
Eyebrows raised, Lucia gave him a challenging smile. She didn’t move an inch. She stood there and watched him slowly walk towards her. She suddenly felt like he was an elegant cheetah, conserving his energy to chase his prey in case it decided to run away.
Once he reached him, Malcolm took off his sunglasses and hung them on the button of his shirt. After a while of staring at her in silence, he finally said in a low voice, “Wild cat, let’s go home.” »
“The house… What a pretty word! “, Lucia said to herself.
For Lucia, who grew up in an orphanage, having a home was a fantasy. She was moved to hear these words. Looking up at Malcolm’s handsome face, she couldn’t help but reach out and gently caress his cheek. When Malcolm grabbed her hand and looked into her eyes, he noticed her expression change a little.
“Do you want to fall in love with me, Malcolm?” » Lucia asked softly.
“What about you?” » Malcolm returned the question.
They both fell silent, and neither of them took the initiative to say a word to the other. In an instant, everything around them froze. It was as if they were now the only ones in the entire universe.
“I have to go to the office. Take me there! » Lucia finally broke the awkward silence between them by saying something that had nothing to do with their romantic moment.
She took a quick glance at Malcolm before heading to her car with her luggage. She threw her suitcase in the trunk and got into the passenger seat. However, she didn’t say another word.
Malcolm had a smile that lit up his entire face. It was obvious that her stubborn wild cat had finally retracted her sharp claws. He put his sunglasses back on before heading towards the car. Once installed behind the wheel,
Neither of them said a word the whole way. Malcolm was focused on driving while Lucia looked out the window.
As soon as they arrived at the building housing the DZ Media offices, Lucia was about to get out of the car, but Malcolm stopped her. She raised her eyebrows as she looked at the man holding her hand. His gaze was full of confusion.
With a smile, Malcolm kissed her gently on the lips before letting go. It was the first time they had such sweet intimacy, Lucia couldn’t help but blush at his unusual behavior. She couldn’t accept his sudden tenderness towards her.
“Am I a masochist? “, she wondered.
Malcolm paid no attention to her surprised expression, however. He simply took a key card out of his pocket and handed it to her.
“It’s the key card to our house. You should be able to come and go as you please. » Even though he said these words casually, there was a slight smile on his lips.
Lucia was speechless. She didn’t know what to say or how to react.
“See you tonight, wildcat.” »
With that, he gently pushed her out of the car, after which he closed the door and stepped on the accelerator.
“Um, what…” Lucia glanced at the keycard in her hand before putting it in her bag and heading towards the building.
