It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 35
Malcolm watched everything through the surveillance screen. All the violence and b***d he witnessed made him feel like he was watching a horror movie unfold before his eyes. Roy, the interrogator, arrived and bowed respectfully to Malcolm. He looked up and stood there, waiting for instructions.
“Roy, do you think he’ll confess by tomorrow?” Malcolm asked, feigning indifference. He was staring at some part of the room.
“Well, in the past few years, only three people have been able to endure such torture,” Roy replied, shrugging confidently.
“That’s good to know,” Malcolm replied calmly.
Then he got up and started walking down the hallway, passing all the interrogation rooms. He stood and watched what was happening in each room, as if he were changing channels on the television, unable to decide which movie he liked best. The smell of b***d filled the air. Screams and m***s were the only sounds Malcolm could hear. It all seemed unreal. It was eerily hypnotic and horrifying at the same time.
Enoch was one of the people who followed Malcolm in silence and he felt his stomach drop. He took a few deep breaths to keep from throwing up and managed to look unaffected. And then it hit him! ” Of course! That’s why Malcolm does this! » He understood that Malcolm wanted to show the spy how high the price of betrayal is. This approach would prove far more effective than any large-scale internal investigation.
Enoch looked around. It was just him, Malcolm, Kaleb, Byron, Finn, Terrell and five senior executives. “So one of them must be the spy.” But who? » Enoch looked at his colleagues curiously, trying to solve the riddle. He tried to see things clearly, unaffected by personal relationships with the men around him.
It would be impossible for anyone other than a senior executive to trade the goods. Kaleb had been following Malcolm the whole time and had neither the motive nor the time to do such a thing. He would rather die than betray Malcolm. As for Byron, he was hand-picked by Malcolm to run the factory in the Middle East, a role he would only offer to someone he completely trusts. And just as Byron and Kaleb were loyal to Malcolm, Finn and Terrell were loyal to Enoch.
So that meant it had to be one of the five other people there. Enoch’s eyes hardened at the thought that someone close to them had lied to them for so long.
Malcolm stopped. He was standing right outside the training room and he just stood there, looking inside. This was no ordinary combat training. The fighters launched fierce attacks on each other, not a single one of them resembling even remotely a human being. The slightest moment of distraction or weakness could prove fatal in this room. Few could survive the harsh training of the Evans family. The person who survived would be truly worthy, skilled in combat and strategy.
There was also another formation outside of combat. It might seem benign to most, but in fact, it was crueler and harsher than anything the fighters had faced before. It was psychological training. All facets of human nature when faced with threat, such as panic, fear or pure terror, had to be analyzed and conquered.
And sometimes, even death was better. You had to endure endless psychological torture, and there was absolutely no way out. And after a while, even waiting seemed like the most horrible torture imaginable.
After a while, Malcolm finally turned around and headed back. He is the only one in their group who does not look disturbed, the others are covered in cold sweat. They were all wiping their sweaty foreheads or palms of their hands, and many of them were loosening their collars.
Was it fear, nervousness, or maybe guilt? “Too early to tell,” Enoch thought.
After asking the others to leave, he followed Malcolm into the office. Malcolm walked over to the wine cabinet, took out a bottle to pour himself a glass. Then he poured one out for Enoch.
“Malcolm…” Enoch muttered.
“He will act soon,” Malcolm said sharply.
“Do you know who it is? The spy? » From the look on his face, Enoch guessed that Malcolm had already understood.
“Let’s just say he hasn’t endured such torture and pain since he left the training camp himself. Will he take the risk of being thrown in a cell and being tortured like this again? », remarked Malcolm, speaking rather to himself.
“Psychological torture is much more effective than physical pain. » Malcolm paused to down the rest of his wine before continuing.
“Arrange a meeting with John. As for the spy, we’ll wait until he comes forward. Ask Terrell to prepare to take back John’s strength. Oh, and about that drug deal coming up in two weeks, I think the employer will show up soon. » A hint of deviousness flashed in Malcolm’s eyes, and a slight smile appeared unexpectedly on his lips.
He lived for this sort of thing. Hunting was a game he found very exciting.
” I’ll take care of it. I’ll let you know when everything is in place,” Enoch said, without asking too many questions.
“Cheers…” Malcolm raised his glass and took a gulp of the wine he had just poured into it.
Enoch also raised his glass and emptied it. He gave Malcolm a small nod, getting up to leave the office.
Leaving his glass on the table, Malcolm stood in front of the window, looking east. As he expected, Lucia, his stubborn wildcat, hadn’t called him at all, as if he hadn’t even left his mark on her life. Malcolm showed a slight smile.
He took his phone out of his pocket and dialed Lucia’s number, finishing what he had started at the airport today. But to his surprise, no one answered. Frowning, he was about to lose his patience, when a familiar voice was heard on the other end of the line.
His expression instantly turned into a smirk. “Tell me, wildcat, have you been good?” Or did you go out as soon as I left? » Malcolm knew Lucia was eager to get out.
“Hey… Jailer,” Lucia replied, before she could stop herself.
” Pardon? » Malcolm raised his eyebrows, not happy with how Lucia had just referred to him.
” Let go. Why are you calling me? asked Lucia, rather rudely.
“So you went out even though the doctor advised you to rest at home? Malcolm asked, ignoring her question.
” I feel better now. It wasn’t as bad as you thought. I would go crazy if I stayed at home any longer,” Lucia replied with an annoyed look.
“Wildcat, I miss you,” Malcolm teased, a slight smile appearing on his face. Lucia remained silent.
“Tell me, have you been in trouble since we last saw each other?” “, Malcolm continued.
It wasn’t Lucia’s unpleasant return that he heard this time, but the sound of disconnection. She hung up on him! He moved the phone away from his ear, looking at the screen, smiling weakly.
“It seems she can be quite shy when she wants to be.” »
In a forgotten corner of the factory, a figure paces back and forth, anxious. He kept looking at the phone in his hand. Communications inside and outside the weapons factory were monitored. The only way to stay under the radar was to establish a separate secure line. Only a few people knew the passwords needed to achieve this.
After verifying that their channel was secure, the man picked up the phone and dialed the number. The call connected, but there was no sound on the other end of the line.
“He became suspicious. I think he suspects me of betraying him; I don’t know. I have to take the money right away and get out of here before he meets John,” the man said impatiently.
The memory of the scene he witnessed in the interrogation room made him tremble with fear. Usually he had no problem watching this kind of thing from the cameras, but now that his conscience was unclear, he thought he saw himself in there, cruelly tortured and humiliated. Having worked at the factory for so many years, he was aware that there was no going back. If we caught him, they would put him through real hell.
” A change? asked the processed voice on the other end of the line.
” No. Stick to the plan. He wants to deal with John. I kept John informed. He’ll make a good arrangement,” the man said quickly.
” I see. The money will be transferred to your account today. Take care of yourself. » The man was silent for a moment, then hung up.
He looked at the phone in his hand, then threw it into the furnace behind him. The smell of burning plastic filled the air and the man began to walk away, without even glancing behind him.
Sitting in his office, Malcolm smiled when he heard the sound coming from the monitor. When Enoch, Kaleb and the others looked at him, they couldn’t help but tremble in fear.
” What an idiot. Ben has suicidal thoughts. And crossing Malcolm is a one-way ticket to hell. » Enoch shuddered at the thought and hoped there would be a body to bury when Malcolm finished with the traitor.
“Kaleb, you don’t need me to give the order, do you?” Malcolm said slowly.
“No, sir,” Kaleb said, shaking his head and leaving the room.
“Enoch, what is your plan? Malcolm asked, turning to look at him.
“You’re going to meet John on the platform next Monday. He demanded compensation for his loss. We can kill two birds with one stone. I have already asked Byron to complete the deployment,” Enoch responded eagerly.
“Compensation, huh? Okay. He’ll get what he’s owed,” Malcolm said coldly.
Piercing screams come from the underground exit of the weapons factory. Ben’s eyes were filled with fear, and he slowly fell to the ground in excruciating fear. B***d was gushing from the wounds on his chest.
“How…did he find out…that…it was me who…did it…” asked Ben, who was having trouble breathing.
“Your only mistake was your fear of Mister Malcolm. You gave him power over you without even realizing it. And that was your loss. You did everything perfectly. None of us could have suspected you, but when he entered the factory, your fear exposed you. That’s why he took us to the interrogation room. Honestly, he wasn’t sure it was you at that moment. He just suspected you. » Kaleb paused and wiped the b***d from the muzzle of the gun.
“But you couldn’t wait to contact someone from the outside.” You revealed everything. John must have made all the preparations, but do you really think he’s capable of leaving after what he’s done? The container incident put us on alert and we were already monitoring unauthorized communications. Usually you are experienced and careful, but you were careless, using the external channel to make a call. You gave yourself away on your own. Now we have all the evidence we need against you. Does this answer satisfy you? Kaleb asked in a low voice, moving closer.
Ben felt drained of all his strength and he couldn’t even beg for his life.
“Mister Malcolm is not so bad. Your corpse will be left in one piece. Goodbye, Ben. »
Without hesitation, Kaleb shot Ben in the forehead. Ben was already dead before he even hit the ground. His eyes remained open, full of fear, even in death.
“Get rid of him and clean up the mess,” Kaleb coldly ordered the guards behind him.
” Yes sir! »
After making sure the body had been taken away, Kaleb turned around and went to report to Malcolm.
