It's Love That Blinds Him
It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 57

When Lucia came out of Lloyd’s office, she saw that Hayes and his other teammates were waiting outside. Without saying a word, she approached her teammates, with whom she had previously worked, and hugged them.

“Congratulations, Meade,” Lucia said in a kind voice as she stopped in front of Meade.

“Thank you Lucy. I look forward to the day you return,” Meade said with a hug.

It wasn’t very common for colleagues to be so close. No matter how good they were, there was always competition between They were all eager to be promoted, and the only thing that mattered was that Lucia’s teammates shared a healthy rather than destructive sense of competition. They always encouraged and congratulated their teammates when they got a promotion. And Lucia knew that having a friend was much better than making enemies.

“Okay, there’s no need to look so sad. Just because Lucia is married now doesn’t mean we can’t see her again. She also lives here in S City. But the next time we see her, we’ll have to call her Mrs. Evans instead of Lucia. Her husband’s company is our biggest client.” Hayes joked and laughed, trying to ease the tension. “F**k

you, Hayes!” Lucia said with a snort and pushed him away.

“Let’s all go to dinner tonight .It would be my pleasure,” Meade suggested.

“Well, you better invite us to dinner. After all, you just got a promotion!” Hayes shouted in excitement.

“Okay, let’s all have dinner together!” said Lucia laughing.

Soon the monotony of the office faded away and everyone became happy. The other employees joined them and shouted with excitement. Suddenly the office wasn’t dark anymore.

“Okay. That’s enough. Guys, get back to work,” Lucia said seriously before urging everyone to return to their seats.

After returning to her desk, she turned on her computer. She then deleted the resignation letter she had almost completed. She felt like she didn’t need to write it anymore. Lucia filled Meade in on some details about the current project they were working on. She explained the situation, the requirement and the issues that needed to be addressed.

Once she finished processing all the things that needed to be turned in, she took a careful look around the office where she had been working for so long. She pulled out an empty cardboard box and began clearing out her desk. After all the time she had spent at the office, it seemed like she had left a lot of memories there. Soon the box was full.

Lucia then backed up any documents on her computer that she considered important before deleting everything else. It was almost as if she was erasing every trace of her that remained in the office. And she didn’t know who would take her place.

When her phone rang, it brought her back to reality, and after glancing at the caller ID, she answered it.

“Wildcat, when do you get off work?” I’ll have someone pick you up,” Malcolm said in a low, seductive voice.

“No. I already have plans to party with my colleagues tonight. Keep going, I’ll go home alone,” Lucia replied lightly.

“Where are you going? Hey, don’t make me worry about you, okay?” Malcolm’s voice was tinged with a hint of coldness.

“I don’t know yet. I’ll let you know once we decide,” Lucia said indifferently.

And after that, she quickly hung up.

In fact, they weren’t fighting at all, but Wilma’s words made Lucia depressed. Besides, Malcolm’s coldness and acquiescence didn’t comfort her either. She felt like it was a strange situation.

Stroking her aching abdomen, she decided to ignore how she felt about it. She pressed the power button on his phone and turned it off. Meade informed them when and where they were going to dinner.

Lucia looked at the full cardboard box on her desk, called the express courier and asked them to take her things. She looked at the address column for a long time before writing down the location of Malcolm’s apartment. The delivery man carefully taped the box, stuck an invoice label on it and left. Lucia was lost in thought as she stared at her empty desk.

The pain in his abdomen made him frown. Rubbing her stomach, she rested her head on her desk. And little by little, the pain faded.

“How are you tonight, Lucia?” Hayes asked when he passed his office.

“I’ll take you to your car,” Lucia replied clearly.

“Okay, then. I’ll meet you in the parking lot after work.” He nodded at her before leaving in a hurry.

Many of his colleagues said goodbye to him. Some of them gave him their blessings, while others offered words of encouragement. Lucia couldn’t help but smile. Their words were proof that she had already worked there. She would probably think about her past memories after a few years. She wondered if her colleagues would remember her then. And she thought about whether they would remember her as the planner, Lucia, or as…

Mrs. Evans. It was a title with a lot of weight. Lucia’s heart sank. She had left all her cheerfulness in Bhaktapur.

By the time the night lights flashed in the sky, Lucia and her colleagues were gathered at Angelbaby, the bar where they often gathered. The DJ was playing loud music at the bar. Many young men and women danced intimately.

All of a sudden, the DJ changed the song to an upbeat and romantic one. The bright lights danced wildly, illuminating everyone’s faces, making them look like ghosts.

As always, Lucia ordered a Long Island iced tea. She held the glass in her hand and took sips from time to time. All his colleagues were warming up to the atmosphere at the bar. They were all slow to warm to the drinks. After all, the bar culture needed a little boost, but once they were all in the mood, they would party. While listening to the music and watching people dance, Lucia slowly finishes her drink.

“A toast to you, Lucia,” Chester shouted excitedly as he walked towards her with his glass of wine in hand.

Without saying another word, Lucia finished her drink. She then raised her empty glass and showed it to him.

Soon everyone came up to her and had a drink with her. Lucia exchanged her drink for a beer and downed it. After having a drink with each colleague, there were three empty beer bottles in front of Lucia.

She felt a little dizzy as the pain in her abdomen returned. Lucia gestured for them to continue. She walked to the bathroom and turned on the faucet, splashing cold water on her face. She supported herself by holding the sink and only left when she felt a little better.

“What happened, Lucy? You don’t look so good,” Mae asked worriedly when she saw Lucia’s pale face.

“I think I’m about to get my period. Nothing to worry about,” Lucia assured him with a wave of her hand.

After all, it was usual for her to feel such cramps before her period. However, the pain seemed a little unusually difficult now. But that was not not too unbearable either. Lucia thought it was probably because of her trip to Nepal that her cycle had been messed up, and she didn’t read too much into it. “Come on, you’re not getting fat

just because you drank a few beers! Here’s my toast, Lucia,” Hayes said casually as he walked towards her with a bottle of beer.

“Hayes, you can’t drink like me, and if you come home drunk your girlfriend will dump your a*s,” Lucia teased.

“Well, it’s natural for a man to drink at social events. What can she do about it?” Hayes said lightly after taking a sip of his beer.

The others burst out laughing. They all knew that Hayes liked to drink and would start talking nonsense after drinking, even if he appeared sober. But if they asked him the next day what he had said, he would give them a confused look. And if he drank too much, he would stop talking and pass out.

Looking at him, Lucia felt her head hurt. Hayes was in no condition to drive now. So they had to ask someone else to take him home.

Maybe, it was because of Hayes’ initiation, or maybe, it was because everyone was drunk enough that they started to let loose. Soon they started playing drinking games. The table was slowly filling with empty bottles. By midnight everyone was drunk. Lucia had a good alcohol tolerance. Meade, Mae and Lucia were the only ones who were fairly sober.

Meade asked those who were sober to take a taxi for those who were drunk and he wrote down the taxi number in case something bad happened to them. He took care of men who couldn’t take care of themselves. And the women weren’t in bad shape like the men were, so Mae helped them.

“Lucie, are you okay? How about I take you home and let Meade take care of things here for a while? » Mae asked, looking worriedly at Lucia’s pale face.

“I’m fine. Just send them home. I can go home by myself.” Lucia signaled to Mae that she was fine and that she didn’t have to worry about her.

Sitting on the couch, she massaged her throbbing forehead. She had really drunk too much that day. The Long Island beers and iced tea made his stomach turn. And Lucia couldn’t tell if the pain was from her abdominal cramps or her stomach ache. After letting out a sigh, she got up and prepared to leave.

But the moment she walked out of the bar, her vision was blinded by the bright flashlights. She tried to shield her eyes from the flashes and adjusted to the brightness. When she finally removed her hand from her eyes, she saw a crowd of people in front of her.

They were reporters.

Lucia’s head began to hurt. She was too naive. She kept forgetting who she was now and continued to live as before. But looking at the reporters in front of her, Lucia couldn’t even begin to imagine what kind of news would appear in the next day’s paper.

“Mrs. Evans, can you tell us why you are here? Why isn’t your husband with you?”

“Mrs. Evans, is your relationship with your husband in crisis? Is that why you’re drunk?”

“Ms. Evans…”

The reporters threw one question after another at her. Upper class people had no privacy in their lives because of journalists like them. Once a person entered the beautiful cage of the upper class, they not only had to sacrifice their life, but also their freedom and thoughts.

“Sorry, but Ms. Evans won’t be answering your questions at this time.” A man’s voice came suddenly, and everyone turned to see who it was. A group

of bodyguards led Lucia to the car, and she followed them without a fight. After all, she had to get out of there. She prepared herself for the storm that awaited her. After entering, she was surprised to see that Malcolm wasn’t there. She raised her eyebrows in confusion, but said nothing.

“Sir. Evans is at home, waiting for you,” the driver reported.

“Okay,” Lucia replied and closed her eyes, trying to fall asleep.

The driver stepped on the accelerator and headed towards the Malcolm’s apartment.
