It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 64
“There’s a new dessert in the kitchen, along with the new pasta that Jon made. I’ll go get some for you. Let me know what you think,” Kenneth said cheerfully, even before the man n had the chance to open his mouth in response to Lucia’s question.
Lucia’s eyes lit up. She looked at Kenneth with big excited eyes and hurriedly chased him away. It’s not every day that she gets the chance to taste a new dessert concocted by a three-star Michelin chef! It was lucky! After all, a leader like him was usually unstable. He might not want to cook, even if the guests paid him. Lucia had known Kenneth for many years, but this would be the second time she had the chance to taste something new dessert at his house.
“Do you like desserts? the man asked, ignoring Lucia’s previous question.
“Yes. It’s my weakness, really. Dessert is the one thing in the world I can never say no to. Ever,” Lucia replied, nodding, her eyes still fixed on the kitchen door. His impatience was evident.
The man chuckled. “I have never met another woman who would indulge in something sweet, putting her figure at risk,” he said, looking genuinely surprised.
“So the women you’ve met so far don’t know how to enjoy life,” Lucia replied distractedly. His mind was still on what Kenneth had said earlier.
The man smiled and sat across from Lucia as usual. He turned on his laptop and started working. Lucia looked away from the kitchen door and looked at the man in front of her. Her curiosity grew, but she suppressed it and returned to the novel on her phone.
“Lowell Forrees,” the man said suddenly, offering his name.
“Lucie Garcia. You can call me Lucia.” Her eyebrows raised in surprise at the sudden introduction, but she gave her own name without hesitation.
They fell into silence again.
Lowell continued to stare at his computer screen while Lucia read her novel. It wasn’t until Kenneth brought out the food that they stopped what they were doing.
There was both pasta, dessert and hot, aromatic coffee. Lucia put down her phone, picked up her fork and dug in. From the first bite, a look of infinite satisfaction could be seen on his face.
Noticing the unladylike way Lucia was eating, Lowell shook his head and put his laptop aside. Then he graciously took his own fork and began to eat. With the first forkful of pasta, a look of surprise crossed his face. He didn’t expect that there would be such a talented cook hidden in this cafe.
“Three Michelin stars! That’s rare for such a… cozy establishment,”
Lowell said as he finished his pasta. He put down his utensils, picked up his napkin and lightly dabbed his lips. Then he quietly looked at Lucia as she finished her own portion, although she would sometimes look up and chatter.
“How did you know Jon had three Michelin stars? Can you tell?” Lucia’s words came out muffled, as her mouth was full of food.
Lowell looked at her with an amused smile, but didn’t answer her question. Lucia shrugged and returned to her food. If Lowell was able to judge Jon’s talent solely by a dish of pasta, then he must be extremely picky about food, which could only mean he must be rich.
After emptying her plate, Lucia moved on to dessert.
It was also one of Jon’s latest creations and he named it Moss Rose. It was cold, with a faint rose pattern on the surface and the alluring aroma of that same flower. But Lucia was sure that Jon hadn’t used roses to make the desert.
Jon was an absolute genius when it came to cooking. How was he able to make a mousse that smelled like roses without using them?
Seeing the expression on her face, Lowell gently pushed his own dessert towards Lucia. She raised her eyebrows, but took it without hesitation.
“No no…Lucie, be nice. This isn’t for you. How can he give me his honest opinion without eating it?” Kenneth grabbed Lucia’s second plate of dessert and put it back in front of Lowell. “But it
‘s he’s a man… How could he understand your dessert? Only women really have the value of a delicious dessert,” Lucia whispered stubbornly.
“Don’t give me that! Jon is a man, and he can make this dessert, while you, a woman, cannot. Besides, you’re not really a picky eater, so I won’t take your word for it. I need the sir’s opinion,” Kenneth teased.
“Hey… This is verbal abuse,” Lucia retorted, pretending to be angry.
“She can just have it. I avoid eating sugar,” Lowell said, smiling at the two bickering people in front of him. He gently pushed the plate back towards Lucia.
Fearing that someone would take it again, Lucia stuck her spoon in and took a bite with satisfaction. She grimaced at Kenneth, who stared at her helplessly, at a loss for words. There was really nothing he could say to her now. He just called her every name in the book in his head.
“So, three Michelin stars… I didn’t expect a place like this to have such a talented chef working for it. It’s very unusual. And by the way, if the basil had been imported from Italy, the food would have been absolutely impeccable,” commented Lowell.
Kenneth and Lucia looked at him at the same time. Lucia had thought he was no ordinary man and her comment had just confirmed it. A thought occurred to him; Lowell may not have known what he was getting into. Jon loved food and pestered anyone who knew about the subject, seeking valuable advice on how to perfect his cooking. But Lucia had a feeling that Lowell wouldn’t appreciate a long conversation like that.
“Sir, would you like to come with me into the kitchen?” Our leader would love to talk to you,” Kenneth said, confirming his suspicions.
Kenneth nodded and didn’t persist. He just called a waiter to clean the table, nodded to Lucia, and left quietly.
Lucia took a sip of coffee, curled up lazily in her chair and continued reading her novel on the phone. She wanted every day of her life to be as wonderful as today.
“Aren’t you curious?” Lowell asked suddenly, looking at Lucia curiously.
“About what?” Lucia asked lazily, not even looking up from her phone.
“Who am I? What do I do? Where do I come from?” Lowell listed casually, his eyes never leaving Lucia.
“Why should I? If you wanted to tell me, you would have already done so,” Lucia said lightly, raising her eyes to look at Lowell.
“You are an interesting woman,” Lowell smiled appreciatively.
“Maybe I’m just a good liar,” Lucia joked, raising her eyebrows.
“Then you’re an interesting liar,” Lowell quickly retorted.
Lucie burst out laughing. Lowell turned out to be less cold than she had originally thought. He was also an interesting person. Inevitably, she became more curious about him.
“Why are you laughing?” Lowell asked, glancing at Lucia.
“Nothing. Do you like delicious food?” Lucia asked casually.
“I can only say that I am an unusually picky eater. It’s not just five-star restaurants that offer delicious food. You can eat it in much simpler places, like this one. Without the pasta, I wouldn’t “I wouldn’t have known there was such a talented cook in this cafe. Until I tasted the food, I thought the coffee was the best thing in this place. And it’s really good,” said Lowell taking a sip of his coffee. It was rare for him to talk so much, but perhaps he made an exception because he was interested in the subject.
“That’s right. Kenneth makes the best coffee,” Lucia agreed.
“Kenneth?” The owner of the cafe? I didn’t know,” Lowell replied, raising his eyebrows. “How did you meet him?” “
We fought,” Lucia said, then explained the details of how she and Kenneth had met. met.
Lowell listened calmly, smiling faintly at Lucia who was speaking briskly in front of him. Lucia was confused by his change in behavior. She looked at him strangely, as if to ask why he was smiling. “It’s nothing
. I’ll take you to another restaurant someday. It’s got the best food in town,” Lowell responded to her silent question.
“Wow, is there really a good restaurant in town that I don’t know about?” Lucia wondered, sounding excited at the “the idea of trying new foods.
” Well, it’s almost never open to the public. So I guess you wouldn’t know,” Lowell said matter-of-factly.
“Really? It’s awesome! I would like to come with you. Can I have your phone number?” Lucia asked impatiently.
Lowell smiled and gave her his number. She quickly saved it in his phone and called him back so he had his too. Suddenly the Lucia’s phone rang. Glancing at the screen, Lucia quickly rejected the call. Lowell looked at her in confusion, but didn’t ask. He just lowered his head and saved Lucia’s phone number in his phone.
“Looks like someone is stalking you,” Lowell teased, looking at Lucia.
“Um… It’s better if I just turn off my phone,” Lucia quipped reluctantly as she slipped the phone into her purse.
Lowell chuckled and said nothing. He looked at his watch, picked up his laptop, and turned to leave. He stopped, turned to Lucia and mimed talking on the phone before turning and walking away. Lucia smiled and nodded, indicating that she understood.
When he left the cafe, Lucia checked the time and frowned. Looking out the window at the already dark sky and thinking about her dead phone, she felt a terrible headache coming on. She stood up slowly and said goodbye to Kenneth, before staggering towards the subway station.
But as she exited the subway, Lucia was frozen in her tracks by the voice that came from behind her.
