It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 70
Lucia became listless and depressed after her argument with Malcolm. Nothing seemed to interest him anymore; not even the things she loved doing. The longer Lucia remained trapped in her tangle of emotions, the more she fell into the abyss of despair. She stayed in her room all day. She barely left the bed, preferring to stay curled up around her pillows. She did not answer any calls or read and respond to text messages. She had completely isolated herself from the outside world.
Lucia took this time to reflect on herself. But she had turned to the most extreme and stubborn method of doing it. She wanted to analyze every aspect of herself, untangle every deep thought and desire.
When Malcolm asked her to marry him, she accepted. She thought he loved her. She thought she was special to him. But now it seemed like it had all been a flirtation. She loved being chased when it came to relationships. The way Malcolm had relentlessly flirted with her had fueled this desire. When Malcolm’s mood shifted and he suddenly began treating her with indifference, it was as if her entire world had shattered. What was previously a loving and passionate existence for her suddenly became a world of misery.
It took this time of introspection for her to realize that she had lost herself in the relationship. She had told Malcolm that she loved him and would stay by his side no matter how difficult things got. But she hadn’t been prepared for the weight of their relationship. This was not what she had envisioned in regards to marriage.
Most of the time, Lucia felt like she had control over herself. But recently, things had started to get away from him. She felt like she was hanging on for air while Malcolm controlled everything. He was slowly but surely taking control of Lucia. No matter how much Lucia wanted to separate from him, he held her on a leash so tightly that she couldn’t break free. In the end, she had to stop fighting and give up.
When Lucia finally came out of her room, it was to pace the living room tirelessly. She couldn’t stay still as her head flooded with a myriad of emotions she couldn’t control.
The ringing of the doorbell brought her out of her rhythmic rhythm. She blinked at the ground, wondering who it could be. Whoever it was rang the bell incessantly until Lucia finally gave in and went to open the door. When she saw who it was, she froze in surprise.
“Grandma,” Lucia said matter-of-factly.
“Wait for me outside,” Wilma said over her shoulder to her butler. With a nod of greeting, she brushed past Lucia into the room.
Lucia hurried to get a pair of slippers and helped Wilma change her shoes. That done, she escorted her to the living room and helped her sit on a couch. They were silent the whole time. Seeing the blank expression on Wilma’s face, Lucia wondered why she was there. Once Wilma was settled on the couch, Lucia poured her a glass of water and placed it in front of her.
“We only have water, Grandma. I don’t really drink tea.” Lucia smiled apologetically.
After meeting Wilma several times, Lucia knew that she really liked tea. Particularly, the expensive, high-end kind. But Lucia didn’t have any tea. The only thing she could offer was beer or water. She thought water was probably the best option. She had no doubt that Wilma would throw the beer in her face if she dared to serve it to her. And even though she knew Wilma didn’t like water either, it was better than nothing.
“I don’t care. I’m not here to drink tea,” Wilma said dryly.
Lucie remained silent. She just raised her eyebrows to invite Wilma to explain further. She already knew that Wilma hadn’t come here for tea. It was pretty obvious. Lucia had some ideas about why Wilma was here, but she couldn’t be sure of the exact reason. She had resigned from her job as Wilma had requested. Qu “Is there anything else Wilma wanted?” Then a sudden thought struck Lucia. She narrowed her eyes and her expression darkened. “Is Wilma here to ask me to get pregnant on as soon as possible? “
“Lucia, you are a smart woman. I won’t beat around the bush. I want you to divorce Malcolm,” Wilma said mercilessly.
“Grandma, would you like to explain to me?” Lucia asked calmly. She was quite surprised by the request, but she was doing a remarkable job of hiding her emotions.
“Since you can’t mother a child, you are useless to the Evans family,” Wilma said coldly, as she placed a pile on the table between them.
Lucia glanced at Wilma and slowly reached out to pick up the file. She could already guess that it contained the results of her hospital visit. Malcolm and Sloan had all told him it was no problem. So what was on the report?
Lucia took each page and read the contents, making sure to read every word in case she missed something. At the very bottom of the last one, written in red, was the conclusion of the entire report. It was signed by both the surgeon and Sloan, and stamped with the hospital seal. The report was real. This was not false documentation that Wilma was trying to deceive her with. If Wilma had anything against their marriage, she would have said it before the wedding.
Lucia didn’t understand why Malcolm was trying to hide the truth from her. Or was he trying to hide the truth from everyone? But it still didn’t make sense. Some time had passed between now and the operation. Why had Wilma waited so long? If she wanted to blame Lucia, she should have done so as soon as she received the report. Lucia’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“I know it says the chances are slim, but that doesn’t mean we can never have a baby,” Lucia said, pretending to be calm.
“That’s a risk we can’t take. We’re already running out of time,” Wilma said sourly.
Lucia was smart enough to realize that there was more to Wilma’s words than what she said. But it was obvious that Wilma was in no mood to explain. ‘What is this?’ Lucia desperately wanted to know the truth, but she had no idea how to get there.
“Lucia, be smart about this. Leave Malcolm and I’ll give you everything you want.” Wilma stood up, silently conveying that the conversation was over. Now she wanted to give Lucia time to think about what she had said.
“Anything? Even if I want the Evans group?” asked Lucy.
“Your greed will get you nowhere. Be careful, or you’ll be left with nothing. Think about what we discussed. I’m going to leave, and I don’t need you to accompany me.” Wilma gave Lucia one last thoughtful look, then walked out of the room without hesitation.
After her conversation with Lucia, she could now understand why Malcolm wanted to be with her. Women were all the same when it came to relationships. They were all weak in the same aspects, easily influenced and controlled by these weaknesses. Wilma had no doubt that, if Lucia were a man, she would be a force to be reckoned with. Just by talking to her, Wilma could see that Lucia was a strategist at heart. She knew how to negotiate, she knew when to push, when to give in and look for advantages in every situation. Living with a woman as intelligent as Lucia would certainly make life interesting. If it weren’t for the Evans family nightmare, Wilma might even have grown to love Lucia.
Lucia just gave a polite nod as Wilma stood up, adhering to her wishes and remaining seated as she left. Once she was sure Wilma was gone, she turned to look at the file. “Is this why Malcolm and I are in such a bad situation now?
The chance of this happening is one in ten million, and I was the unlucky one. If she had remained single, this would never have been a problem. But she was married now. News like this was a huge blow to any family, especially one like the Evans family. Things wouldn’t have been so bad if Lucia’s husband had supported her. There would still have been the slightest glimmer of hope. But it turned out that Malcolm…
Lucia jumped when the phone rang. She picked it up, looked at the caller ID and answered.
“Sophia, what’s wrong?” Why are you calling me?” Lucia asked curiously.
“How are you, Lucie?” Sophia asked in a strange tone.
“What’s wrong?” Lucia repeated, feeling a warning tingle run through on her skin. Sophia didn’t look like herself at that moment.
“I was worried about you. I was wondering how your life as a couple was going. So I called. I’m just checking for you,” Sophia explained.
“It’s not looking good. It’s a long story. If you have time now, I can tell you everything.” Lucia didn’t feel the need to hide anything from Sophia. The two were always honest with each other. They never kept secrets ; especially secrets that are better told.
“I’m free now. You can tell me.”
Lucia told Sophia everything. From his operation to what he said on the report. She even told Sophia about Wilma’s visit and what she had told him. Once she finished, Lucia fell silent, waiting for Sophia to say something. But Sophia also remained silent. In fact, she remained silent for so long that Lucia started to think she had hung up. “Sophie? Hello? Are
you Are you still here?” asked Lucy.
“How much more bad luck will I have? Am I really so unlucky that I couldn’t even get a proper welcome? Did I really just pour my heart out so that Sophia wouldn’t hear a word? It wouldn’t be the first time something like this had happened. When Sophia had been out in the desert, she had gotten used to the bad reception that always eluded her.
“Yes, I’m still here,” Sophia said slowly.
“What’s wrong then?” Have I shocked you into silence with my tales of woe? » Lucia said bitterly with a smile.
“Lucie… Have you ever wondered why Malcolm married you?” Sophie asked. The question was quite out of the blue and rather strange.
“I have to admit I’ve been thinking about it recently. Maybe I was interesting to him? Or maybe he liked the challenge? Maybe I was in the right place at the right time, when he was old enough to marry. Or maybe he had ulterior motives. Whatever the reason, I can’t understand,” Lucia said with a small sigh.
“I…” Sophia stopped before she said much.
“What’s wrong? Tell me. I’m sure I can handle it.” Lucia didn’t like the fact that Sophia was suddenly so hesitant to speak her mind. Sophia had always been one to say what needed to be said, no matter how harsh the truth was.
“Do you have a fax machine at home? » asked Sophie.
“Yes why?” Lucia said as she walked towards the fax machine. She read the number to Sophia so she could write it down.
“I’m going to fax you something.” You’ll understand once you read it.” The way Sophia spoke made Lucia suspicious. She looked frightened, as if it took all her confidence to say those two sentences. “
What What’s the whole secret? Can’t you tell me now?” Lucia asked, unable to contain her curiosity.
“It’s hard to explain. Just read it. You will understand. Lucia, just a piece of advice, be calm when you read it,” Sophia said worriedly.
“Does this have anything to do with me?” » Lucia asked calmly as she watched a piece of paper slide from the fax machine.
“Yes. If there’s nothing else you’d like to discuss, I need to go. Please don’t be a stranger. Keep in touch,” Sophia said quickly when she heard the fax machine will work.
“Okay. Be careful.” Lucia hung up the phone after that.
She placed her phone on the table and carefully took the paper out of the machine. She sat down and began to read it. The small joy she had when talking to Sophia quickly turned into deep despair.
She had wanted the truth. And now she held it in her hands. Lucia smiled coldly. Then she started laughing. It was a horrible, tense laugh, because she wasn’t laughing with joy. She laughed at his stupid ignorance.
