It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 78
In the Evans group
“Mr. Evans,” Bob respectfully greeted Malcolm.
Malcolm picked up the newspaper from his desk, his eyes cold and calculating. He passed it to Bob, motioning for him to start reading. Bob took one look at the title and broke into a cold sweat. “Who leaked this?” » he wondered.
“We need to call a press conference to explain. Call Enoch, Malcolm ordered.
“Yes, sir,” Bob said hurriedly and left as fast as his legs could carry him.
Malcolm continued to read the newspaper, his mind whirring. “Who could have said that Lucia and I are separated? » There was even a photo of Lucia at the door of Kenneth’s cafe. Judging by the poor analysis, the candid photo was not from a digital camera. The title was what bothered Malcolm the most, though.
‘The CEO of Evans Group and his wife are separated. And it seems it’s because of Mr. Evans’ ex-girlfriend.’
‘Ex girlfriend?’ A merciless look passed into Malcolm’s eyes. At that moment, Enoch entered the office. He picked up the newspaper and scanned the first page. With each passing moment, his frown deepened. “What kind of
idiot dare provoke us like that? Enoch looked thoughtful for a minute, running through the possible suspects in his mind. “Oh my God… Could it be Renee?” He looked at Malcolm. “I don’t know
. But I want the culprit to be found out as soon as possible,” Malcolm said coldly.
“Malcolm, it must be Renee. Enoch gathered up his courage and named the most likely person.
“But how did she find out that Are Malcolm and Lucia separated?” If it weren’t for that last sentence in the headline and the words “stay tuned” at the bottom of the article, tempting the audience to read tomorrow’s paper, Enoch wouldn’t be not so sure Renee was behind this. The writer promised to disclose all of Malcolm’s past romances in tomorrow’s paper.
The day after Malcolm and Renee met, he had withdrawn the order to terminate the contract with SNG Radio and had started working with them again. Soon, the news of his resignation spread throughout the industry. “Is this all his way of getting revenge? If so, it This is the stupidest thing she’s ever done. How could something like this affect the powerful Evans Group? Or maybe the group is not its target? Hundreds of possibilities raced through Enoch’s mind, until they were all mixed together into a hot mess that he was no longer able to handle. ‘Shit, ‘ Enoch swore inwardly. “This year has been full of troubles.
“Keep an eye on her. And block any further attempts on her part. We will not give her another chance to pursue whatever plan she has,” Malcolm ordered decisively.
“Of course,” Enoch replied calmly, hiding his surprise.
“What the hell happened back then?” They fell in love and then broke up. What could make Renee so resentful towards Malcolm? And why is Malcolm so cruel to her?’ Enoch put a stop to all his crazy thoughts and decided to just follow orders.
No matter the reason, there was only one person he trusted, and that was Malcolm.
Evans Group held a news conference soon, with the building’s conference room packed with reporters. The questions followed one another. Bob responded to each of them conscientiously and diplomatically. He announced that the CEO and his wife were still together and that the newspaper article was fake news. As for the so-called ex-girlfriend, Bob appealed to everyone not to be blinded by glittery garbage. He attributed it all to a business stunt, an attempt by the group’s competitors to sully the Evans family name.
Of course, these answers didn’t satisfy the journalists, but no one could deny that Bob’s explanations were impeccable and there were absolutely no flaws. By the time the press conference was over, the reporters turned and rushed back to the cafe to find Lucia, thinking she might tell them another story.
Malcolm watched the scene from the security cameras, his frown deepening. He turned to look out the window and suddenly stood up. A moment later, he was outside his office, heading towards the parking lot. He got in his car and rushed to the cafe and unexpectedly found the small building surrounded by reporters. They had cornered Lucia at the door and she was just standing there, trapped.
She had a bad feeling today, ever since she woke up this morning. When she opened the door to the cafe, she saw a crowd of journalists waiting for her to come out. ‘What happened?’ Lucy frowned. Since she met Malcolm, newspapers were no longer a source of gossip to be read with delighted surprise. Instead, she was turned into a gossip topic again and again. Lucia absolutely hated it.
“Ms. Evans, can you tell us why you are here?”
“Ms. Evans, is it true that you and your husband are separated? Are you considering divorce?”
“Sir. Evans’ ex is back. What do you think?”
Lucia frowned at the questions thrown at her all at once. A few words stand out, however. ‘Separated? Malcolm’s ex?’ Lucia’s eyes darkened. She couldn’t help but think of the photos she had received. — Is Renée behind that? Why would she do that? Is she planning to destroy our marriage?’ thought Lucie.
Renee had delivered the photos to the cafe, which meant she knew Malcolm and Lucia had been separated. The day after Lucia received the photos, the media also seemed to have heard the news. This couldn’t be a coincidence. “Has the Evans Group taken no action? » Lucia frowned in confusion.
“I’m sorry. I have nothing to say. I expect Evans Group to hold a press conference to answer all your questions,” Lucia announced, feigning calm.
“Mrs. Evans, do you admit that you and your husband are separated?”
There were always journalists who didn’t give up and kept asking questions. Lucy frowned. She didn’t want to talk about all that anymore. “What if Malcolm and I get separated? Should I compromise again and again and expose myself to these senseless interviews, just to satisfy the public’s desire for gossip? »
“It seems that you are not satisfied with Evans Group’s statement at the press conference. Otherwise, why on earth would you come here and harass my wife?”
A cold voice came from behind the crowd of reporters , and they all turned their heads, trying to locate the source. Lucia’s heartbeat sped up at the familiar voice. They hadn’t seen each other in days, but Malcolm was still the same. He was also indifferent than usual, with a slight smile on her face. But there seemed to be several meanings in that smile. Lucia looked at herself. He looked nothing like her, who was going crazy thinking about everything. “Sir
. Evans, why are you here? Do you intend to prove your affection for your wife? Or are you here to face the problems? »
As soon as the reporters spotted Malcolm, they all turned their attention to him. Lucia raised her eyebrows. There was a buzz of excitement around the crowd and the reporters all had a hungry look in their eyes, as if they were predators ready to pounce on the unfortunate prey that crossed their path. But was the prey so unhappy after all? Lucia chuckled at her own thoughts.
Ignoring the questions, Malcolm walked straight towards Lucia, the reporters stepping aside to make way for him. He stood in front of Lucia, who looked at him quietly for a second before turning to leave. Malcolm grabbed her hand and pulled her into his arms. Lucia struggled to escape, but he stopped her.
“What are you doing? Do you still want to appear in the paper tomorrow? If that’s what you really want, then you can go inside,” Malcolm whispered in her ear.
Lucia stood still, her body stiff in Malcolm’s arms. She wouldn’t bring Kenneth any more trouble because of his stubbornness. “It seems I can’t stay here forever.” Where would I go?
Watching them k**s, the reporters quickly raised their cameras to take pictures. When everyone had a photo to post, Malcolm gently released Lucia, but still held her hand.
“Lucia is my wife and I will not marry anyone else. I hope that such fake news will never appear again. Otherwise, I might think that Evans Group has been too tolerant of media stunts lately.” Malcolm’s veiled menace hung in the air as his cold eyes scanned the crowd.
The reporters recoiled from his gaze, unwilling to take the bad side of Evans Group. They hastily packed up their gear, got into their cars and disappeared.
Soon only Lucia and Malcolm came out the cafe door. As the last of the reporters walked away, Lucia shook Malcolm’s hand and went inside alone.
“Wildcat…” Malcolm called.
Lucia turned to look at him coldly. “The show’s over. Aren’t you leaving?”
“No one can ever replace you. Ever,” Malcolm said, as if making a wish.
Lucia looked at him for a few moments and turned to leave without looking back. Her look was like a goodbye, like she was trying to memorize his face one last time. Watching Lucia walk away from him, Malcolm clenched his fists. He desperately wanted to talk to her, but he held back.
Sometimes when someone took the first step, the future was already decided.
“Lucie… Are you okay?” Kenneth asked, worry written in his eyes, as he saw her enter with a somber face.
“I’m fine. I’m sorry for causing you all this trouble. I’ll leave first thing tomorrow,” Lucia said, unable to look Kenneth in the eyes.
“Nonsense. I don’t care about any of that,” Kenneth comforted her.
“Thank you, Kenneth,” said Lucia,
She really didn’t need to have a lot of friends, but when she needed help, she knew there were a few people who would be there for her and that was enough. People who partied every day weren’t necessarily real friends.
‘It’s so good to have you,’ Lucia thought and sighed.
The cafe schedule was not disrupted by the arrival of the journalists. Everything returned to normal as soon as the crowd dispersed. Lucia did not return to the upstairs office. Instead, she cowered in her favorite corner. She hasn’t read or done anything really. She sat there quietly, still stunned by everything that had happened. She watched the cars come and go and sometimes the couple passed by, hand in hand.
It was such a beautiful picture! But as beautiful as the scenery around her was, it could no longer cheer her up.
