It's Love That Blinds Him
It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 89

A late-night chat became part of Lucia and Kathryn’s daily routine. They had both gotten used to it and cherished their little chats. Holding a pastry in her hand, Lucia sat down opposite Catherine. Kathryn seemed to have an endless amount of topics to discuss every day, so there wasn’t a single moment of awkward silence. Lucia didn’t need to start the conversation or find new topics. All she had to do was follow Catherine’s lead.

“Lucia, I think it’s time you found a job. You’re not cut out to be a housewife,” Catherine said with a frown after Lucia told her about the events of the last few days.

“Is anyone really cut out to be a housewife?” Are you?” Lucia teased, smiling tenderly at Catherine.

Catherine blushed suddenly. Lucia’s words seemed to have struck a chord. Lucia let her go right away and cupped Catherine’s cheek affectionately. “

Darling , be patient. One day he’ll realize how awesome you are and he’ll be all over you.” Lucia tried to comfort her friend.

Catherine didn’t say anything; she just forced a sad smile. It looked like she was trying not to burden Lucia with her own problems, but there was also a hint of self-loathing in her eyes.

Lucia looked at the unusually silent Catherine. It seemed that every time she mentioned her guardian, the girl was overcome with a wave of sadness, as if she were mourning something she was never meant to have.

“Kathryn, have you ever told her that you loved her?” Lucia asked curiously.

“No,” Catherine replied quickly.

Lucia looked on in confusion. Katheryn’s affection was so obvious that anyone would be able to tell who she was pining for. — Does the man feel obligated to keep Catherine at arm’s length because he is her guardian? Or is there any other reason?’

Lucia was curious to know the truth.

“Love isn’t really a priority for him. He wants to be seen as ruthless and cynical. I’ve already told you several times that I’m just his pet. Maybe one day he’ll forget all about me,” Kathryn said matter-of-factly.

She tried to show a mature, sensible woman who couldn’t be hurt by something like that, but she failed to dramatically. Lucia didn’t know how to respond, and she forced a smile, trying to convey her remorse for bringing up this topic. Kathryn waved her hand quickly, indicating that it didn’t really bother her.

Lucia quickly changed the subject to try to cheer them up.

She didn’t know if it was because they had brought up this particular topic, but she felt that there was something really strange about that night’s conversation. Normally they would have stayed up late chatting, but it seemed their mood had darkened considerably, so they called it a night

and retired to their rooms.

Lying on her bed, Lucia stared at the sky above. The stars were nowhere to be seen, leaving only the vast dark sky and the crescent moon, shining like a sickle.

Lucia’s spark had returned. Maybe it was the temptation caused by Lowell’s words, or maybe it was the conversation with Kathryn. Maybe it was Hayes’ invitation from a few days ago, or the news she had read. Whatever it was, it had done the trick. She turned on her laptop and looked through all the cases she had handled in the past.

For the first time in a long time, she felt like herself. Often people couldn’t help but feel hesitant, lost, or completely helpless. But Lucia decided she didn’t want to feel that way anymore. She looked at a file on the desk named “Bhaktapur”. She moved the cursor over it, but hesitated for a moment. She took a deep breath and clicked on the file.

It seemed to contain several images of Bhaktapur. Landscapes, food, and random objects, as well as photos of her and Malcolm. Memories of a time before all the unpleasantness that had separated them… Theirs had been a simple and comfortable marriage. Malcolm’s smiling face in the photo caught Lucia’s eye and she ran her thumb over it.

“Why the smile? Maybe you thought you won. After all, I had just stupidly jumped into your trap,” Lucia whispered, still staring at Malcolm’s face.

“But you didn’t know everything either. When you found out I would have trouble getting pregnant, you saw me as a commodity, an obstacle in your race to break your family’s curse.” Lucia kept talking to the Malcolm in the photo, as if he could hear.

“Now all I have left is confusion, fear and shame. And it’s because of you. I will never be as carefree as before. But I don’t want to continue living like this . I don’t want to live under your shadow, under your rules.

Since I can’t get you out of my head, I’m going to have to bury you in my memories. With all these dirty and disgusting events that brought us here. ” She whispered that last part to herself, and her eyes seemed to regain their vitality.

“But what about what I lost?” I may not have touched your heart, but you took mine away little by little, until there was nothing left. But you never even let me near yours. Is it really that hard for you to love someone? If so, you have to let me go. Goodbye, Malcolm. It’s time to free myself. It’s really hard to hate someone you used to love…”

Lucia took a deep breath and closed the folder. She right-clicked and was ready to delete the file, just like she would delete her own memories if she could. But something stopped her. It turned out that erasing her past wasn’t as easy as she thought. She moved the file to another location, somewhere where she wouldn’t wouldn’t have to see him every day and, sighing, she shut down her laptop.

She picked up her phone hastily, as if she was afraid she would lose her composure if she stalled. She closed her eyes and quickly pressed “send ” on the message she had in a draft, before she could regret her decision.

“Are you free now? I want to talk to you.”

The message was short and simple. And it was sent to Lowell. Lucia had been tempted by Lowell’s proposal, but she refused to take on the challenges like before. People would probably make assumptions. No one, no matter how powerful, could escape gossip.

A few minutes later, Lucia’s phone rang. She answered without even checking who was calling. A familiar voice came from the other end of the line: “Lucia? What’s the problem?” Lowell asked, sounding genuinely concerned.

“I want to try your suggestion, but with a twist. So I have to talk and sort out the details. Okay?” Lucia said seriously.

“Are you sure you want this? I’m in, if you really mean it,” Lowell said calmly, as if he had already known that Lucia would agree.

“How come you don’t look surprised?” » Lucia asked in confusion.

“We haven’t known each other that long, but I know you pretty well. You like challenges and you hate feeling trapped. So it’s not really surprising that you agree. Your reluctance to admit defeat is adorable,” Lowell said with a laugh.

“I’m flattered. Here’s the thing. I don’t want to work for any company and I think you already know why. I just want to take care of the cases alone. I can go out to chat when necessary. Is that okay with you?” Lucia said in her usual sharp tone, listing her needs.

“It won’t be a problem. You should know that there are many independent planners like you in this field. If you have the courage, you can get orders from customers. But do you want to use your real name? » Lowell asked.

Of course he understood what Lucia meant. That she didn’t want to live under the influence of the past. Specifically, she didn’t want to be constantly harassed by the reputation she had gained due to her involvement with the Evans family. Because then, no matter what she accomplished, she would constantly be judged for her past choices.

“Why not? I’m not going to work in the company. I can just be Lucia. There are a lot of people with that name in the country. It’s quite common, Lucia said, shrugging her shoulders. “Fine

. Got it! I will send it on everything you will need to your email. Text me your address,” Lowell said carefully, nodding.

“Thank you, Lowell,” Lucia said.

“You’re welcome,” he replied in a low voice.

Lucia hung up the phone and quickly texted him the email address. After a few minutes, she received a new email, opened it and carefully read the information it contained.

Lucia raised her eyebrows. She was really curious about Lowell’s identity. Apt Group originated in Germany and its subsidiary platform Era Global Planning had accumulated a group of the most powerful independent planners. The company didn’t sign any sort of agreement with the planners, but there were still all sorts of opportunities. Each job was assigned to the most suitable planner and the reward was always generous.

In other words, Era Global Planning was a platform for planners and projects. Many clients would leave the task of selecting the best planner to Era Global Planning. Lucia had been a planner for less than six years, yet this platform would allow her to make a name for herself. She had to admire the logic behind it all.

This website was like heaven for all independent planners. Whoever could get the most cases from Era Global Planning would be the best in the field in no time.

“Who is Lowell really?” How can he get me into Era Global Planning, just like that?’ Most planners would have their past work and resumes scrutinized before even being called in for an interview. The company was quite selective with who it worked with, wanting to preserve Era Global Planning’s reputation. “How the hell can he get me in?” » Lucia became even more interested in Lowell’s identity.

“Have you finished reading the news?” Do you have any questions?”

A message appeared on his phone. It was none other than Lowell. Lucia started typing: “What is your position in Era Global Planning? Why are you willing to give me such a big deal? Aren’t you afraid that I might ruin everything?”

“I only recommended you. I didn’t entrust the matter to you. You were the most suitable candidate. Besides, I don’t have the right to make this decision myself.”

“But you just mentioned it today.

“Well, I started the process after looking at the stars with you last night- there. I just told you about it today.”

“Lowell… Thanks.”

“Come on. Where is this confidence that I admire so much in you? Be yourself!”

“I will.”

Lowell said goodbye to her. Lucia had a warm feeling in his heart. Lowell was a very interesting person. And he would always appear whenever Lucia needed him the most. But until now, Lucia never thought that someone like Lowell would ever help someone like her. He gave her a helping hand, when she felt helpless.

Lucia took a look to the dark sky and slowly drew the curtain. Starting tomorrow, it would be a new beginning. The first day of the rest of his life.
