Episode 14

Melody’s POV

Artemis and I started the night helping Luca shift. Sabrina and Shianna were not kidding that he would be in pain. His body temperature skyrocketed as soon as we compelled him to shift. Artemis and I tried to help keep him calm, but I couldn’t stay for his full shift. I had to go around and help mama and the others check on the other new shifters. That was a part of our duties during their first shifts.

I helped a few females that had shifted and were feeling completely drained. I nudged them to stand up and get their b***d flowing. ‘Come on. I know the first shift takes a lot out of you, but you need to move around and get your b***d flowing through your new limbs.’ I spoke to them gently through the pack link. They whimpered but slowly got up. Once they got up and moved a bit, they felt better. I left to continue my rounds.

I ran into Tobias, Tucker, and Tony. Not only was this their first shift, but it was their 18th birthday as well. Tucker’s wolf was tan with yellow eyes, Tobias’ wolf was a dark brown wolf with pink eyes that matched his hair, and Tony’s wolf was silver with silver eyes. I playfully growled to get their attention. They looked my way and started to run around me. All of a sudden a shiver ran down my spine as I heard a deep and strong howl. I turned to where it was coming from and was met with an incredible sight.

A pure golden wolf was howling towards the full moon. I felt my heart start to race at just the sight of him. That had to be Luca. He was a bit larger than my brother’s wolves. He was close to the size of a werebear. Artemis was excited. She wanted to run to him and meet his wolf. I got nipped in the leg and turned my head. Tucker was motioning for me to bow my head in respect like everyone else.

Embarrassment filled me and I quickly bowed my head. ‘Oh man, I didn’t even know that everyone was bowing.’ I said to Artemis. She laughed. ‘Only because you were too busy eye f*****g that sexy wolf in from of us.’ she snickered. ‘You are not helping.’ I huffed. She was going to nip back, but then she perked up. An amazing scent hit my nose. It smelled like fresh mint. ‘Artemis, is that?’ She howled in happiness and began to bounce around in my mind. “Mate!” She howled. I raised my head to start looking for the wolf giving off such a scent and was met with honey golden eyes.

Luca’s golden wolf was standing just a few feet away from me. Artemis began to purr as he started walking towards us. For the first time in a long time. I was frozen to the spot. This tall, smart, and thick muscled man I met a few weeks ago was my mate the whole time?! I had been practically drooling over him in my head for the last two weeks. I only kept myself in check because I wanted to be faithful to my true mate. Mates were sacred and treasured, and I was not gonna give in to my l**t just because he was sexy as hell. ‘We can now girl.’ Artemis teased. I was so glad to be in wolf form, because my cheeks would be red.

His wolf was now in front of me. I actually had to look up to him a bit. He buried his muzzle into my neck and inhaled deeply. I did the same to him. His scent was intoxicating. My mind was numb to all reason. Artemis purred and a deep rumble came from him. ‘Little moon, is Luca your mate?’ I heard mama’s voice. I pulled away a bit from Luca’s wolf and turned to see my mother and fathers’ wolves standing by us. Along with my brothers and everyone else.

‘Yes mama. He is my mate.’ I replied. Dad howled to our pack. ‘Melody has found her mate!’ he called out through the pack link. The whole pack began to yip and howl in joyful celebration, as Luca’s wolf and Artemis nuzzled each other. ‘Let us now begin the pack run and tomorrow we will throw a banquet in honor of Prince Luca and his new life with Melody.’ Papa called out. The pack howled in response as I got many voices in my head congratulating me on finding my mate.

Then a grey wolf with amber eyes came up to Luca and I. He was smaller than me, but I felt power coming off from him. He bowed his head to Luca and I. I tilted my head in confusion. “Princess, this is Carter’s wolf. His name is Ash.” Someone said from next to me. I turned my head to see Zezar standing there. I nodded my head in understanding. Then another howl of delight was heard. I turned to see Tobais’ wolf running toward us. He dashed right past us and right to Zezar, knocking him to the ground and begun licking his face. “Well hello there. Hahaha.” Zezar said with a smirk. He then reached up and patted Tobais like he was a puppy.

Tobias’ tail was wagging so much I thought it was going to fly off. ‘Tobias… is Zezar your mate?!’ I ask in excitement. Everyone in the pack knew that Tobias liked both guys and girls, so most people would joke and bet on which one his mate would be. ‘Yes he is. I knew he was sexy when he first got here.’ Tobias said and licked Zezar on the cheek again when Zezar got back on his feet. “Hey, no more wolf k****s. Hahaha.” Zezar said, as he continued to scratch and pet Tobias’ wolf.

Tobias then laid down and nudged Zezar to get on his back for the pack run. Zezar did seem to understand, so I went behind him and gently grabbed him from the back of his shirt with my teeth and placed him on Tobias’ back. “Oh you want me to join the run with you. Okay.” Zezar spoke gently to Tobias as he held onto the scruff of his neck.

I heard a deep growl coming from behind me. I turned and Luca’s ears were down as he was glaring daggers at Zezar and Tobias. Artemis and I huffed and stepped between him and them. Tobias and Zezar then took off and joined the others in the pack run. All that was left was Luca, Carter, and I. Carter stood a few feet away from us. He was acting as our guard like a beta is supposed to do for their alpha and luna. ‘I forgot how possessive and easily jealous alphas can get.’ I said to Artemis. ‘Yeah, I did too. Though you do have to admit it is hot as hell when they get that way.’ I let out a laugh in my head. I have never seen Artemis act this way. I guess that is how the mate bond works.

‘Then how about we tease him a bit?’ I asked her. She yipped and was excited for that idea. Artemis walked over slowly to Luca’s wolf and looked him dead in the eyes. I saw his wolf’s ears perk right up and his tail started to wag. Artemis walked around Luca a couple times and brushed her body up against his. Then she swatted him in the face with her tail and bolted off to join the pack run. We heard a playful growl and felt a presence coming up from behind us. ‘Let’s see how long it takes for the next king of werewolves to catch us.’ I said to Artemis. She growled in response. She loved a good chase, but she loved someone attempting to catch her more. The game was on.
