Hudson walked over, his hands trembling as he slowly pushed the door open. The stench from the room hit them even harder.
Finally, they were about to discover me.
Ayla immediately covered her nose, looking like she was about to gag.
No one dared to move. Only Leah walked in without hesitation.
Even without the lights on, Leah went straight to where I was. She crouched down, took my cold hand, and patted my face
“Mommy, don’t sleep anymore. Eva is here. Please wake up,” Leah said.
Leah tried to pull me up. But no matter how hard she tried, my body remained motionless.
Leah finally gave up and looked at the others, who stood frozen at the doorway. “Eva, Mommy is still sleeping. She won’t get up,” Leah said.
By now, Eva was already in tears.
Hudson fell to his knees with a thud.
“How could this happen? How could she be dead?” Hudson cried out.
Eva rushed in and scooped Leah into her arms. She pressed Leah’s face against her chest to keep her from seeing me again.
“Hailey, you are the biggest fool in this world.” Eva said angrily.
Eva looked down at me, cursing me bitterly.
Tears streamed down Eva’s face as she finally broke down and cried.
Leah didn’t understand what death was. She quietly let Eva hold her, without crying or making a fuss.
