Chapter 14

Serguei opened the door and addressed the couple in the hallway. He had given them their space, thinking it was the best idea. But he was dealing with something they didn’t know.

-Christian, bring her to my office, we have to calm her down first,” his authoritative tone was unassuming.

Cristián carried her by the arm and although she resisted in the end he buried his trembling hands in the fabric of her clothes. Entering the office he led her to the huge black leather sofa. By the time he set her down her skin was once again covered in whitish fur. Her painfully furrowed brow denoted the worry on her face. Serguei pushed him away and knelt before Alisha’s sobbing body and took her hand ignoring the growl at her back.

-I need you to step away for a moment, I will use my wolf to connect with his. If she feels threatened we may not be able to calm her down and you can’t bite her again. Her healing is taking too long and we can’t keep hurting her,” His words were barely a whisper.

The beta nodded and stepped back. He hated the idea of another man touching his wife, but deep down he knew his alpha only wanted to help. Even if his animal instincts dictated otherwise.

Serguei focused his attention on the woman and let part of his wolf take over. His golden eyes turned a deeper gold.

Alisha stopped shaking for a moment and stood very still, staring at the giant. Her breath petrified in her chest. A growl came from the man’s throat and her shoulders retracted. Christian felt the b***d on his palms. He hadn’t realized how hard he was clenching his fists in restraint.

The veins in the young woman’s neck were marked on her skin as well as her arms, due to the tension of her muscles seeking to change, but Serguei’s awareness was keeping Alisha’s human above the wolf’s, but it was taking its toll on him. Cristian could see the black silk shirt clinging to his back with sweat. The helplessness of not being able to do anything was killing him.

Serguei let go of Alisha’s hand minutes later when his body was more human than wolf again, the colour in his eyes still not returning, his wolf refusing to sleep. But for the moment it was the only thing they could do. He had learned that technique from his father to calm rebellious young wolves. But this wolf was not young. It was even older than he was. Who the hell was she. He needed the council, if this information was learned from the wrong sources, his life would not be the only one in danger.

Serguei staggered to his feet and wiped the sweat from his brow as the small woman lay panting on the couch. His beta sat down next to her and ran his hand down her back over her arms to remove some of the stiffness.

-Cristian looked at his superior, his eyes darkening with worry.

-The situation is more serious than we thought.” The man dropped into one of the armchairs.

-What do you mean,” the blond poured two glasses of water and offered her one as he placed the other between Alisha’s hands and pushed her hair back.

-I don’t know what she is, but her wolf is older and stronger than me. That only tells me one thing, she was never human.

Cristian couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

-But then what about her scent. I would have known she was a wolf as soon as I saw her, never mind that she was my mate.

-That’s another of the unknowns, we’ll have to go to the Council, only the elders can have an answer. For the moment there is only one solution left to keep his wolf under control.

Cristián raised an eyebrow

-You’ll have to end up in liaison, completely.
