Chapter 41

Alisha trembled, with fear, with helplessness, with guilt.

She pulled back until she could no more. She swallowed so hard it hurt. She couldn’t call out to him, his smell had changed and more than attracted her, it made her shudder to get out of there.

She didn’t know what they had injected her with, but whatever it was, the intention was for her to take it against her will. And Blaren might be identical to her brother, with some differences that one could realise over time, but he was not her mate, the one person who could feel her even when she didn’t want him to and who for the first time she so longed for him to be by her side.

She hugged her body as if to protect herself even if it caused pain in the wounds that she didn’t understand why they didn’t close, that normally wasn’t a problem, but they seemed as tender as when they were made.

The wolf stood still for a few seconds, his nails and fangs had become present even without losing his human appearance, a line of saliva ran down the side of his l*p and the scowl gave him a more intimidating look. But it was those eyes, which did not miss her footing, that made her most nervous. She searched her mind for an alternative if the most likely thing happened, she knew that if she let Blaren touch her, no matter if it was the result of a drug, the twins’ relationship would be damaged and that was a luxury she couldn’t afford. She had the peace of mind that if anything happened to her, Cristian would have someone who would be by her side. She couldn’t risk it.

Blaren flexed his arms in her direction. The scent was suffocating in an attempt to draw her in by shaking the wolf inside her, after letting her out she felt more aware even after the meltdown.

To her surprise the wolf turned away from her and the smell of male hormones was replaced by the smell of b***d. Alisha was alarmed and tried to lean over to see what was happening and saw drops of b***d running down the side of her arm.

-Blaren,” she called out in a whisper but received no response from him.

They stayed like that for so long that Alisha’s legs began to protest, yet she didn’t move. The wolf had hurt himself to protect her, he could not let his efforts go in vain.

Three, four, five hours passed, maybe more, inside that place where they could not see the sunlight, time was not meaningless. Blaren’s body finally fell to the side, breathing heavily.

Alisha sniffed and all traces of hormones were gone, apparently the effect of the drug was gone. She recognised the wolf’s willpower.

-Blaren?” she called out worriedly.

-I’m fine, I just need to sleep, don’t come near me until I tell you to,” she said.

She nodded her head and heard his breathing regulate, giving her to understand that he was asleep.

Alisha closed her eyes, there was nothing to do so she would at least try to do something for them. She would locate her partner even if it exhausted her.

She breathed in deeply and concentrated only to find darkness. She probed some more but nothing. It was as if their connection was alive but a barrier between them prevented them from concentrating.

He clicked his tongue and tried harder causing a buzzing to start in his head until he felt a throbbing and the connection broke taking his breath away.

He fell forward, touching his chest, his vision unfocused, but at least he thought he had achieved something. That heartbeat could not be in vain. That heartbeat he recognised as those of his partner.

-Please, Cristian, find us,” she held back the sob that was forming in her throat. She didn’t want to cry, she didn’t want to break down, it wasn’t the time for that.

She looked at the body of the man who had his back to her. He would not let him fight alone.

He heard the door open again and tensed. She expected her father again with some trickery, but in her case the woman who appeared made her eyes widen in exasperation.

-You,” she gasped.

-It’s good to see you again, President, or better said, experiment 0.

Alisha didn’t realise what she had been called, first she had to get over the surprise that the person in front of her was her former colleague and right-hand woman, Ania.

-What are you doing here?” she had some idea but wanted to check.

A laugh escaped from her lips painted in a garish red that didn’t suit her at all.

-What I hated the most about you was that air of superiority you always gave yourself, look at you, it’s that state and you still have the cheek to talk to me,” she said, almost spitting out her words, “I’m the lady here, my love, I’m the one in charge of this place.

Alisha blinked. She didn’t think the woman was so ungrateful after she had given her a respectable job when she found her cleaning floors in a small establishment that didn’t even give her enough to eat. Although thinking about it now from another point of view, maybe it had all been a strategy, she didn’t even know what to think anymore.

-Guards,” she heard her say and two tall men entered the room, “Take her out, it’s time to have some fun, my husband wants to analyse her after so many years”.

Alisha saw how those men would have the grill and took her by the wrist and pulled her out, no matter how much resistance she put up, her body was weak and wounded and that only made her condition worse.

-What do we do with the wolf,” she pointed to Blaren in the corner.

-Leave it there, it didn’t live up to expectations, someone will come later to get rid of it or use it for experiments,” Ania combed her hair back disinterestedly to the terror of Alisha who didn’t want to speak, she had a feeling that if she did, it would only make the situation worse.

Her hands were tied behind her back and a tight leash placed around her neck that would not allow her to turn giving her small electric shocks at every attempt.

She was pushed and forced to walk down a dark corridor until she reached a huge room where technology was the main protagonist. She could tell by the faint light coming through one of the windows that it must be around six in the evening, but what day was an unknown.

She was guided through the centre of the room drawing the attention of some people who covered their entire bodies with special white suits and covered part of their faces while they analysed the computers or simply the contents of several glass tubes with cloudy water.

She shuddered inwardly remembering what she had been in one of them, but she didn’t know when or for how long.

-You brought it, thank you Ania,” he saw his father approach the brunette woman to place a k**s on her lips.

-Of course my love, I’m looking forward to taking care of that bitch.

-We had made it clear that I would only deal with her.

-But,” her retort was muffled when her cheek received a sharp blow that sent her crashing to the floor.

-Don’t talk back to me,” he looked at the woman lying on the ground and turned to the guards, “You, bring her in, I want to play with my daughter.

Those words only made Alisha tremble as she forced her mind to search for Cristian again, yearning for his protection.
