Chapter 43
Alisha. Alisha. The voice echoed in her mind, different from the she-wolf’s. This time the images were so blurred they were barely visible. This time the images were so fuzzy they were barely visible.
-Why is this happening? the young woman sat up slowly, rubbing her temples.
After seeing herself without any change everything became blurry. Still they could just make out a lot of noise, the silhouette of a small woman breaking the glass where she was and then lots and lots of light.
Alisha covered her eyes and again that voice.
-You must survive. You must not fall into the hands of anyone.
And as she heard it, everything went black and she was tied to her memories in the orphanage and when she had woken up in the middle of someone else’s garden with hardly any clothes on and without a memory.
-What happened?
He shook his head, looking at the she-wolf.
-I don’t know much about what happened either,” the animal licked its muzzle, “We were on a lot of drugs during that time, so I don’t have much insight, but apparently someone managed to get us out of there.
-Really?” he knelt down in front of the she-wolf.
-I can only tell you that the person who saved us was one of us, I think she was a she-wolf survivor.
-So there’s one like you out there too?
The animal nodded.
-I don’t know where, I can’t figure it out, but I think so,” Alisha sighed.
Alisha sighed.
That she was alive at this moment was thanks to someone X who had barely seen her face but for the first time in her memories her scent mark was present. If she got out of this she would have to find her and return the favour. He just hoped she was alive. That meant there was another female.
Alisha slowly opened her eyes to feel cold inside her confinement cell. Her head was resting on something hard but not the floor.
-Wake up, what a relief,” Blaren murmured softly, stroking her head which helped the pain she was in to subside a little.
-How long was I unconscious?
At least a day and a half. The wolf was tense and Alisha felt it on the back of her thigh where her head rested.
-I thought you’d been killed. You were so white and barely breathing…
-Those assholes, they almost drained me,” she sat up with difficulty. At least you’re still here. He’d ordered to get rid of you-
-At the last moment they left, don’t think they weren’t going to do it.
Alisha nodded and lay back down. Although it wasn’t Christian, his smell was similar and that helped to relax her.
-How long do you think we’ll be here?
-Not long.
The door opened to let her father in again with two cages carried by several men.
Blaren grabbed her arm and pulled her behind him, shielding her with his body.
-That won’t do any good.
Robert smiled dropping a small cylinder next to it which made it begin to release a kind of white child that made them both shudder. Their fur began to change against their will, taking on a wolfish appearance, and then they fell to the side, conscious but paralysed.
-Put them in the cages and take them to the truck, we have to move all of this tonight,” Robert said.
Robert turned away as the men loaded them into much smaller, free-standing cages. Alisha could only watch as they were stuffed into the dark cab of a truck that had small windows on the sides that only let in air and barely saw what was going on around them.
Soon after, the truck started to move, but they did not. Apparently they were changing their base. Where would they be taking them? If they moved like that they would not be able to be found. Anger began to grow inside her. She felt helpless, no matter what method she had to get out of there.
Maybe a few hours passed, she didn’t know but the numbness was starting to wear off, so she focused on moving every muscle in her body to speed up her mobility. The drug they must have been given didn’t seem as strong or maybe Robert wasn’t as familiar with them as he thought he was. To his shock he heard more movement from his brother-in-law next to him.
-Blaren,” he called through his mind.
-I’m here.
-Can you move?
-Almost completely. Don’t inhale so much smoke. I’ll be all right in a few seconds.
She sighed in relief.
-Where could they take us?
-Wherever it is will be worse than where they were. We have to get out of here as soon as possible.
Blaren didn’t expect to be fully recovered, a shiver ran through him and he had a bad feeling. With his developed sense of smell he sniffed through the bars looking for the lock until he found it, grabbing it with his mouth and pulling it.
A m**n came from his throat when the metal cut the inside and part of his tongue, also hurting one of his fangs but he didn’t stop pulling with all his strength. This would not be the first time or the last time he would find himself in a similar situation and he already had experience.
Luckily for him this lock had not been locked so tightly due to the haste the men showed in moving all of them. An oversight they would take advantage of. Climbing out of the cage with barely room and a trickle of b***d running from the edge of his mouth he did the same procedure with Alisha’s cage finding that it was securely locked.
He cursed inwardly. He knew his luck couldn’t be that good.
-Blaren, go away,” she said and that surprised him.
-What are you talking about? F**k. Shut up, don’t ever say anything like that again.
I’m not kidding, Blaren. If you leave at least there’s a chance that one of us will come out unscathed, besides I’m the one they’re interested in.
-Shut up,” he shouted in his mind, how could she think he would leave her there, she was his brother’s happiness and an important member of the family, “Don’t play the hero now. I’m not leaving you.
The wolf grabbed the padlock and began to pull without much result.
Minutes later the bloody padlock began to loosen but Blaren had to stop for a few seconds and sit down. He knew it was not a good idea but all the muscles in his mouth could be torn.
His place was taken by Alisha who did the same action pulling with the strength she had regained which wasn’t much, even so she couldn’t stand by and do nothing.
-Be careful,” he said, getting up again, “Let me do it.
-The she-wolf closed her eyes and let all her strength concentrate in one place. She felt a clack and opened her mouth, dropping the lock in two pieces. The wolf’s jaw was stronger than she thought.
She opened the door with her back and stood next to Blaren.
-What do we do now?
-I haven’t thought about that part yet,” the wolf said sincerely.
The truck came to a sudden halt, exhilarating him. A bustle was heard all around them. The breeze that blew in was much stronger than before and Blaren approached the crack only to find that they were driving down a slope. He stepped back. A noise at the door brought them to alertness. The wolf came to Alisha’s side.
Get ready, sister-in-law. We’ll have to fight.
