Chapter 46: Epilogue
Alisha didn’t miss a detail as she told the herd about the latest events and discoveries. Serguei kept a serious expression on his face, while the rest were shocked. Knowing that the wolf inside her was one of the most important in her history was something they hadn’t expected, let alone the way it had been implanted in her body.
For his part Serguei was acutely aware that he had to inform both the Council and the rest of the packs of Robert’s ambitions, as well as the possibility that they might help locate their missing member. Alisha felt a little more relaxed when it all came out of her. It was a heavy weight on her shoulders and one that was keeping her awake at night.
Dylan paused for a moment behind her seat and tapped her shoulder to get her attention.
-Can I talk to you for a moment?
She nodded and joined him while the others exchanged views. Cristian watched them disappear into the kitchen.
-What’s going on?
-I know this question might be indiscreet, but, by any chance, did you meet someone on your way back?
The question left her puzzled, she didn’t really understand until those blurry memories of being carried on someone’s back came back to her. As she was in that moment she thought it had been a dream, but it wasn’t. She thought it was a dream.
-Yes, Dylan,” she said with determination, “I don’t know who exactly, but he saved my life, and I think he did it twice, why do you ask?
She saw him scratching the back of his head and leaning back against the table.
-I think that what saved you, is my other half,” that took her by surprise, “don’t look at me like that, although I was weak, when Cristian brought you there was a sweet smell in your body that wasn’t yours that almost drove me crazy,” Alisha smiled.
Alisha smiled.
-I’m happy for you Dylan, now there are two we’ll have to look for,” Alisha smiled.
-I don’t even know how to tell Sergei,” she smiled and then turned serious. Remembering Blaren’s situation was something that made everyone unstable.
When they returned to the living room, Alisha noticed that Cristian was not among them. She found him sitting outside on one of the steps outside the entrance wiggling something between his fingers. She approached him and took her place beside him, putting her arm around his shoulders and comforting him.
-Ali, this belonged to my brother,” she opened her hand revealing a small chain with a red quartz stone on it, “he gave it to me once I became beta of the pack, he told me it would protect me, I wish he had it now.
The she-wolf brushed his hair away from his face and kissed his cheek.
-We will find him Cristian, Robert is cruel but he needs our kind for his purposes.
-You’re right,” she sighed, encouraging herself, “Besides, I still have to thank him for allowing you to be by my side again,” she turned and kissed him on the nose.
Of course, my brother-in-law took very good care of me, so you’ll have to bow to him when he comes back,” he joked.
-Seriously, I’m glad he’s here with me,” he pressed his forehead to hers, “I promise I won’t be separated from you again Alisha, I missed you so much.
She smiled, being so close to this wolf made her feel safe, good, happy, without any fear. She wished the rest of her life was like that, but she was no stranger to the problems that surrounded her life. But for now she would enjoy the moment.
200 km to the west.
Heels clacked against the pavement of CEO Robert Slith’s new Drug Manufacturing and Research Centre. A place that had opened long ago and only the best had been hired. A place with more mystery than science. The air ruffled the dark, wavy hair around his face, which wore a triumphant smile. He ran his fingers over the badge of his white dressing gown changing with a flash activating a spell, the name carved on it.
He looked up and down the imposing building with disinterest knowing that what he was looking for was not in the visible part and his smile grew wider.
-I’ve come for you, mate.
