There was a car waiting for me as soon as I stepped off Michael’s private jet in New York. The driver took my suitcase from my hands as I stepped onto the asphalt.

“Good day to you, miss. How was your flight?” the driver asked,

“Great, thank you. Are we going straight to Mr. Astor’s office?” I asked, figuring Michael would be getting some work done before I arrived. I never asked what the emergency was that made him end our vacation early, but I had assumed it had something to do with his company.

“Mr. Astor isn’t at the office today,” the driver said and then opened the back door for me.

“Michael,” I gasped, surprised that he was in the back seat waiting for me.

“I missed you too much to wait to see you,” he said, holding out his hand to help me into the car.

He pulled me in for a deep k**s, sliding his hand around my waist and pulling me closer to him. I didn’t register that we had started driving until the driver was pulling out of the airport.

Michael made quick work of my clothes, piling them onto the seat next to us. His hands roamed across my body in a needy way. Heat warmed between my thighs, and I matched his eagerness, unbuttoning his shirt and running my hands down his chest.

I figured we would have make-up s*x once we got to the hotel, but Michael was making it clear that he could not wait that long.

With a quick tug, my bra fell limp down my arms, exposing my breasts, the peaks hardened in the cold. At the sight of them, Michael pulled me on top of him, grasping my butt in his warm palms.

I could already feel his want for me through his slacks, so I undid the button and pulled the zipper down, revealing his e******n.

He slid a condom from his pocket and quickly put it on before pushing inside me, and the motion of the car gave way to our motion.

His hands ran through my hair, pulling my mouth down onto his. I only pulled away to catch my breath as I got closer to my climax. His warm panting breath sent me over the edge, and Michael followed, burying his face against my neck.

The car pulled to a stop just as Michael and I pulled our clothes back on.

“What are we doing?” I asked as Michael reached out to help me smooth out my hair. His hand slid down the side of my face cupping my cheek.

“I am treating you to a day of shopping before we go to dinner,” Michael said with a soft k**s on my mouth.

“You really don’t have to do that,” I answered with a smile.

“I want to. Especially with how I left things back in Hawaii. I want you to know just how sorry I am for the way I treated you. I couldn’t sleep until I heard from you.”

“I know you are, and it’s okay. I didn’t help the situation with how I reacted. I was just disappointed that our time together got interrupted,” I said.

“You had every right to react the way you did. It was unfair of me to have to end our vacation early. I really want to make it up to you somehow. I didn’t handle that situation very well, I should have taken the time to explain better.”

“I wanted to ask you about that. Is everything okay?” I said, staring at Michael.

“Yeah, it was just a problem with one of my investors. They were thinking of pulling out, but I smoothed everything over,” Michael said, opening the car door and stepping out.

A pit formed in my stomach; I knew Michael wasn’t really dealing with an investor. I knew he would not have left our vacation early for that reason. He had so many people working for him that he trusted; he would have been able to have someone settle the situation until he got back.

I just didn’t understand why he was lying to me. What was he really hiding?

“I am thinking we stop by Louis Vuitton and get you a new bag. You are going to need a new one when you become a lawyer,” Michael said, drawing the conversation away from me from asking any more questions.

I simply nodded in response, still trying to put together the pieces of Michael’s story.

Michael and I picked out a gorgeous new bag with the help of the sales clerk, and with the new Louis Vuitton in hand, we spent the rest of the afternoon window shopping. I helped Michael pick out a new watch and a Christmas gift for his receptionist. As we were walking back to the car, I couldn’t help but stop in front of a small boutique with a beautiful red dress on display in the window.

“That would look amazing on you,” Michael said, catching my gaze.

“It is really pretty,” I admitted.

Michael opened the door for me, and I walked into the shop. A few minutes later, I was standing in front of the fitting room mirror in the dress. The edges dusted the floor, and the sweetheart neckline made me feel so confident.

“You have to get it,” Michael said, pulling out his card.

“I don’t have anything coming up that requires a dress like this,” I said simply.

“Yes, you do. You can wear it to dinner tonight,” Michael said.

The sun was setting when we finally returned to the car, arms full of bags and our feet sore. After a few minutes, I realized we weren’t headed back toward Michael’s house.

“Where are we going?” I asked, confused.

“Did you really think I was going to let you spend the last few days of our vacation in my penthouse? I got us a suite at The Ritz.”

The royal suite was bigger than my apartment, but what really made the room special was the view of Central Park; the large windows acted as picture frames for New York.

“This room is incredible,” I said, spinning in a circle in the living room.

“It is a personal favorite of mine. You can’t beat the view.”

“You’ve really spoiled me,” I said with a smile.

“I am not done spoiling you yet. Go put on that new dress, and let’s go down for dinner,” Michael said.

The red dress gently brushed the stairs as we descended on our way to one of the hotel restaurants. We were seated against a large window, our table lit by candlelight.

“Today has been so amazing, I am glad that even though there was a change in the original plans, you wanted to continue our vacation,” Michael said with a smile, raising a wine glass to his lips.

“I’m glad I came, too. I can’t wait to go soak in that giant bathtub upstairs. Honestly, that is my favorite part of these luxury suites,” I said with a laugh.

“Each one does tend to boast a giant bathtub,” Michael said, chuckling.

“It will be hard to leave tomorrow. I don’t want our time together to be over so soon. It is nice spending so much time with you. I could get used to it.”

“I could get used to it too. I was actually hoping to ask you something,” Michael said.

My heart skipped a beat at his statement. Did he mean a question or THE question?

“What is it?” I said with a little shakiness in my voice.

“Would you spend Christmas with me and my family?” Michael asked sheepishly.

“I would love to,” I answered immediately, my heart beat still racing.

“Are you sure you don’t want to take the jet?” Michael asked as I pulled my clothes from the hotel closet and packed them in the suitcase on the bed.

“I really can take the train; it isn’t a big deal; I have done this trip the same way several times now. I have a starving college student image to uphold, you know,” I said in a teasing way, tossing one of my bikinis into the suitcase. I was not ready to go back to warm clothing.

“I know you are independent, Shelby; I just like to know that you get there safe,” Michael said, a hint of concern in his eyes. My heart skipped a beat, realizing just how much he cared about me.

“I will be safe, I promise; if it will make you feel better, I will call you and let you know where I am the whole way there. Plus, I have a few more chapters of this book I really want to finish before I get back home. I know Lin, and she won’t let me have a moment of peace as soon as I walk through the door,” I said with a laugh, setting down the book Michael bought for me, so I would remember to put it in my bag.

“That is true; Lin always has so many questions,” Michael said with a chuckle.

“Exactly, and the fact that she has been alone in our apartment for a week is not going to help with that,” I said with a smile. I was excited to see Lin.

“Well, at least let me see you off at the train station. That really is the least that I can do,” Michael said firmly.

“I would like that,” I said, zipping up my suitcase.

The train station was packed with people, all bundled up against the cold. The holidays always made travel a lot more hectic, with people rushing to get back to their families. I felt a pang of guilt that I would be missing Christmas this year with my grandpa. I would have to take a trip to see him before joining Michael to meet his family.

“Do you have everything you need?” he said, pulling my suitcase out of the back of the car. He insisted on helping me with my bags rather than letting the driver do it. I appreciated it; then, we didn’t have to say our goodbyes with one of his employees watching us.

Michael walked me right to my platform and helped load my bag before kissing me slowly.

“I am going to miss you,” he said softly.

“I am going to miss you too, but it won’t be very long until we are together again.”

“True; I will see you three days before Christmas.”

After another slow k**s, I watched Michael walk away, and I boarded the train. Sitting in my seat, I waited for the train to depart. I glanced out the window and noticed a figure in a black hoodie trying to go unnoticed in an alcove.

A chill ran up my spine, just like when I was followed the first time.
