His Forbidden Mate Chapter 29

"Stay!" Edward whined for the fiftieth time since I told him I had to leave.

After much persistence, I came home with him after work and we had spent the night together wrapped in sheets and each other's arms.

Our meeting points haven't been to the parlour alone. That would stir up talks and looks from the workers there. So he gave me his address: The royal home. The estate was built in Lurds and meant for the royals in the kingdoms whenever they came visiting. Since Edward frequently visited Lurds, he had made the house his abode. It was massive and elegant and in his words, I could scream my lungs out and no one would hear. This place felt like my third home, my first being my house, the second being his arms, even though I'd deny it if confronted.

I've stayed wrapped up in his arms for a while and it felt too good, but I didn't want to get used to it and so I detached myself from him to bathe and get going. Edward, like always, had a problem with that. He stayed in bed quietly until I came out, ready to take my leave.

"I can't stay even though I want to."

"Do you want to?"

I nodded, "Yes."

"Then stay." he sat up and wiggled his brows at me. "I'll let you ride me. I know you want to." he knew what I wanted to hear. He knew how much I longed to be in control, despite giving it up to him every time.

I rolled my eyes at his attempt to sway my already-made decision. "Nice try, but no. Today will be a long day and I have to return home. I don't want Rue worrying about where I'd taken myself to."

"Tell her you're with me."

I gasped, my eyes growing wide with his outrageous suggestion. "I most certainly will not. She will think we are mates."

"So if it was your mates asking you to stay, you would."

"Perhaps," I answered, and saw a knowing look that came to his face, "There's no way in hades I'm letting you mark me." I protested.

He rose to his feet to reveal his alluring nakedness. "Why?"

I kept my gaze fixed on him, avoiding any other part of him that would hypnotise me into changing my mind. "Because marking isn't child's play, nor is it done for convenience."

"What makes you think this is for convenience?"

"Because you know I'd not stay any other way," I answered in a certain tone.

He pauses, hands on his hips, "So you believe I have no other reason I'd want to mark you?"

I shrugged. "I'm not sure you do."

"How about because you make me feel good and because I feel sane and at peace whenever I'm with you?"

I didn't want to believe him, but I could see he spoke the truth and that made my heart swell.

I shook my head, walked to the side of the room and picked up my black veil tossed on the brown armchair. "How you feel isn't always what determines a suitable mate, at least not according to the books." I finished and threw the veil over my shoulders. "Books exaggerate," he argued.

"That's your c**k talking." I countered.

He didn't deny it, instead; he affirms it. "It is. It wants a shake from you." he took a step forward, emphasising his point, by rubbing himself.

I huffed and threw my hands up, losing it with him. The longer I stay here, the longer I'd want to reconsider my option. "I'm going now and you can see me off or not, but I'm not staying another second."

We climbed down the stairs together. However, my plans to leave unnoticed failed when I saw a tall, good-looking man, a little older than Edward with black hair, standing in the living room looking like a noble-born. I was certain he and Edward were friends. "My prince, my lady!" he greeted as soon as he saw us approach.

"Alpha Koz." Edward acknowledged. "I thought you were on the mission to the kingdom of Jade with the King's message."

He nodded, a smile dancing at the corner of his lips. "Yes, I was. I'm heading back to the Capital. I heard you were in Lurds and thought to visit. So here I am."

"Wow." he breathed and whoever this man was, Edward looked impressed standing before him. I stood like the awkward one in the crowd.

As if reading my awkwardness, Edward spoke up. "Alpha Koz, I want you to meet lady Kailani Zaine. She's with me. Kailani, please meet alpha Koz, the alpha of truth and knowledge. He is also the adviser to the alpha king."

I bowed humbly, and Alpha Koz smiled at me. "You're lovely, lady Zaine, but the only Zaine I remember was Bruce Zaine, and I didn't know he fathered a child before he passed." alpha Koz said, curiosity lingering in his voice. He was indeed the alpha of knowledge because he knew things most didn't.

"Bruce Zaine took me in and gave me his name before passing," I answered. I noticed Edward's narrowed gaze on me and I didn't blame him. He didn't know any of this and was hearing it for the first time.

"He was a good man," he added, a comforting smile to his words.

I nodded, holding a smile. "He really was."

Alpha Koz's attention returned to Edward, who stood quietly, listening to our little but deep conversation. "I will take my leave now, my prince. I dropped by because I heard you were in Lurds. I'll head back to the capital with my reports to the King." He nodded and Koz bowed and departed, leaving me alone with Edward, whose gaze ate me up. "You can ask if you want."

"You didn't tell me that Bruce Zaine wasn't your father. Why?"

"You didn't ask, and I didn't think it mattered," I answered.

"You didn't think it mattered?" he groaned, still keeping his voice as neutral as he could. "Your last name isn't the name of your father, and you didn't think it mattered."

"Bruce is my father." I countered because that was the truth and nothing would change that.

"You know what I mean, don't act like you don't." he seemed pissed off, and that was not a side I saw frequently.

"I didn't see the point. I believe such information is not to be shared with just anyone."

"I am just anyone?" he asked, and I saw the hurt in his blue eyes. I had the power to hurt this man, and it felt strange because I didn't think what we were was anything more than casual.

I had placed prince Edward as someone in control of his emotions, so seeing a hurtful look on his face took me by surprise.
