Love and Chaos Series -
His Forbidden Mate Epilogue
With the parlour gone, Kailani spent most of her time travelling. Nothing was keeping her anymore, Rue had Oliver and Jane had Glen and all was well and she gave her time to travelling. It was her way of escaping the memories the city brought into her mind. Some of those memories were the ones she made with Prince Edward, her one true love.
It was harder spending time here when every corner of her home and city reminded her of him. She knew she wouldn't survive if she stayed, so she moved to Soule in the north, the place she was born only coming to visit Lurds once in a while.
Today was one of those days. Rue and Oliver welcomed their babies a week ago, and as soon as she received words, she set out to visit. Rue had told her she would be their children’s godmother, and she had to be present and celebrate with the family, her family, for this wonderful news. They held a feast to celebrate, and she was just right on time.
She hadn't stayed in Lurds for more than a day for the past couple of months, but for Rue and her family, she would.
Rue made her change out of her purple silk robe into a peach lacy robe with colourful silver designs. She complained it was too much, but Rue told her she was the godmother of the baby and deserved to look just as well.
The ceremony started a few hours ago, and the guests were still coming in. Rue and Kailani were still in the bedroom, yet to step out.
“Oliver had finally reached an agreement with the Lord of Lurds. He proposed to build a Montessori for little children from the age of five. It had never been done, and it had taken him months of constant visitation and reminder before his proposal finally got approved. He wants our children to have all the best in knowledge and he believes a lot of families would want that for their children, too.”
Kailani thought that was the noblest thing ever. “That's so noble of him, and I'm glad they have received his request.”
“I am too.”
“Have you thought about names for the babies?" she asked with a narrowed gaze as she watched Rue bite her bottom lips.
The naming of the babies was a part of the ceremony. That meant they had already picked out their preferred names for the babies, just waiting for the time during the ceremony to reveal it. “We decided to call the boy Valerio after Oliver's father and the girl Kailani.”
Her eyes narrowed, glancing up at her to confirm what she just heard, but the look on Rue's face told her she meant it. “Why Kailani?"
Rue stepped up towards her as the dressmaker stepped aside. “Because we want her to be just as fierce and selfless as you are.”
She was neither of those things she just mentioned, but I felt flattered that she felt that way about her. “I feel honoured to have her bear my name.” She beamed at her.
She smiled at her, “Good, then. You're ready.”
She turned around to behold herself in the mirror and she looked mind-blowing in the dress. She didn’t know the last time she looked this good. “It's beautiful” She gushed, her hand lingering on her neck.
“Not as beautiful as you.” She heard the rather familiar voice say from behind and all the hair on her body stood at alert. She knew that voice all too well. The voice that once soothe, calmed her down and banished all the reasons she had to be afraid.
She couldn't turn back. She didn't dare to.
He shouldn't be here. She thought, then realised he was like family to the Lanes and had every reason to be.
The last time she saw him was over six months ago and according to what he said to her then, he took an oath and in his words; he had to keep it.
She heard his footsteps drawing closer and her heartbeat double in its beating. She knew everyone close by could hear it.
He was here and she couldn't ignore him like he wasn't.
At first, she hated him. She hated the deal he made with his father to bring her back. She didn’t see the point of coming back if she would get to lose him, but later on, she understood the risk he took. It didn’t make the pain feel less. The pain still lingered in the massive folds, but she understood why he brought her back. He knew he might never get to be with her, but knew others who love and considered her family would and he did the most selfless thing I could think of.
She told herself it was for the best and though the pain of losing him crushed her; she understood. She didn’t move on, she couldn't, and so she ran.
“Rue told me the ceremony would be a small one, but this is nothing small,” he spoke, snapping her out of her thoughts as he came to stand beside her before the mirror.
“Yes, but they had made plans to celebrate one, but now have two. I understand why the plans changed.”
He nodded, “Makes sense.”
“If you're looking for Oliver, he isn't here,” she told him, still not looking at him despite his reflection in the mirror.
“I didn’t come for Oliver. I came for you."
This made her spin to stare at him, and her eyes locked in his alluring blue eyes. She dragged a deep breath and turned to look away. She still wasn't ready to face him. This just proved it.
“I think you're mistaken.”
“l wish I was."
“What happened to the oat you took to your father?”
“He has seen it right to set me free from it, and that's why I am here”
Her heart hammered in her chest, and she knew what his words meant. These were the prayers she had prayed for the past few months and seeing them getting answered now felt like a dream. She couldn't believe it, despite wanting to.
“I'm here now to ask you if there's someone already in your life."
She bit her lips and blinked back the tears. She should not be crying. That would ruin her look and Rue won't be happy about it.
“There is” she replied and saw his face drop, but she didn't let that stop her. “He's the only man I love and want to spend eternity with."
He didn't look up, but he had a wounded look on his face. “Oh, then I am happy for you both." “Wouldn't you want to know who it is?” she raised a brow.
The wounded look lingered in his eyes when he looked up. It was obvious he didn't want to know. He had set her free to go live her life, but still didn’t look happy about her decision. “Who is he then?"
“You!
The anguish decreased and confusion settled in them the next moment. “Me?”
“You're the only one for me. I told you I'd never marry. There was no point. So I chose to wait for you."
He stared at her with eyes filled with awe. “Even when you knew I might never return?”
“It was the risk I was willing to take. I was going to wait, even if it meant forever," she answered in an honest tone.
A smile came onto his face making his eyes flicker with emotions he couldn't control, “I love you, Lady Kailani of the house Zaine.” he declared with so much pride and confidence. Posted by FindNovel.net, always visit us for more novels.
She pulled him closer and wrapped her arms around him for a tight hug. “I love you too, prince Edward of the house Ainsworth.”
