The Alpha King’s Ugly Bride Chapter 28

The sound of the trumpet informed Xavier of his father's arrival and he rose from his throne and down the stairs, towards the wide window, which he could see through.

Just as expected, Robb got down from his carriage escorted by a few temple guards and priests towards the Palace. He was adorned in a white long robe with golden stripes, a signature of his title as alpha of alphas. Xavier hated the wrecking feeling that always accompanied the thought of Robb being close by. He had had it since he was a child and he thought he'd outgrow it by now. It was the fear that his father could take away from him in a blink everything he had worked so hard to attain. He feared that from childhood and even till now; the fear lingered.

It's been over three years since Robb Ainsworth stepped his foot into the Palace. Three years of not being contradicted, and over three years of not having to prove himself worthy to a good for nothing father. Time had gone by so fast, maybe even too fast. He turned to the entrance door of the inner chambers where the Queen should have walked in a long time ago, but it was empty. He turned to his guard standing beside the throne.

"Call the queen, tell her that her presence is needed." the guard bowed and took his leave and in the same moment, the door opened.

Robb, accompanied by about a dozen men, stepped into the throne room, his aura of dominance oozing around. Xavier tried on a smile that didn't reach his eyes at the sight of him. "Father!"

"Son!" he said mildly happy, "or should I say, alpha king?"

"I'm your son always." Xavier chuckled and stepped further towards his father, unable to control his suddenly sweaty palms.

"Alpha king." the voice that made his skin crawl and his stomach tighten in a bad way called out. Xavier dragged his gaze from Robb to meet Elliott, his cousin and sworn nemesis. He stood in a royal purple long sleeve robe with silver designs almost matching the one Robb had on except for the colours.

Today was the day fate planned to f**k him over for sure.

The bastard grinned back at him, his blue eyes flickering. Xavier scowled instantly. His hand tightened into a fist. There was nothing delightful about this meeting, and he suddenly wanted to punch something.

The ring on his finger shot painful and weakening poisons into his blood. These poisons travelled through his veins and to the rest of his body, all to calm him down. Yet, even that did little to stop his rage.

Robb was the man who made him feel less growing up, and Elliott assisted. Being a hypocrite and only doing the right thing when Robb was present, Elliott snaked himself into Robb's heart and made him believe he would be a better king than him. 'Perhaps he wasn't being a hypocrite, perhaps he was genuine!' one voice in his head told him.

'No, Edward was genuinely good. Elliot wasn't. He was a snake, and still is, and he contributed to making life harder than it needed to be.' another voice argued.

Elliot made things worse after the death of the Queen Layla and he would never forgive him for that. "Elliott." he snarled lowly.

"It's no longer Elliott, but Lord Elliott, the title I received at the region of Idah." he corrected proudly, with his head standing tall. "That's the east of the kingdom where you send me to after your father fell asleep. They made me the lord of their land." "Good for you then," Xavier smile came fake onto his face.

"Indeed."

"If the east coast is so great, why are you back at the capital?"

"I heard about the awakening of the alpha of alphas over a week ago, and I knew I had to return. So, I journeyed night and day just to be by his side when he returned to the state of reasoning. I'm glad I was."

Xavier made an irritated sound and rolled his eyes. If there was a title for ass-kissing in the kingdom, he would give it to his cousin, since that's what he was good at.

Xavier didn't get to have the last witty remark because Robb cut in. "I received information that you got married. Where's your queen?" Robb demanded, his eyes darting around the throne room in search of the new queen.

At his question, Xavier returned to the realisation that the queen he had sent for a while ago wasn't still out. He was still thinking about what could have gone wrong when the guard he sent to bring the queen returned without her.

He matched towards him, an unsure look on his face and Xavier's eyes narrowed at him. "Speak!"

"The queen calls for you," he said. "She won't leave her chambers unless you come to bring her out."

Xavier didn't expect this response from him. What could have possibly given the devil he calls wife the audacity to make such preposterous statements?

"Someone's clearly not in charge of his home." Elliott shook his head in disappointment. His cousin was so good at throwing words around, words that would make Robb second guess him as usual.

Xavier almost reached down his throat and made him regret his words, but stopped his animalistic side immediately. Robb was presently looking at him, about to conclude that he was an excuse for a king and he didn't want to give him more reasons to believe that. He stepped back, "My queen needs me, your grace. Elliott can clown up and keep you entertained while I'm gone. I won't take long I promise."

Red flashed in Elliott's eyes at Xavier's words, but he couldn't act on his rage as expected.

Xavier bowed his head and departed from the throne room feeling satisfied.

Now onto the little devil he called wife who wanted nothing but his downfall.
