Love beyond the mask ( Whitney ) -
Chapter 899
Tiana felt like she was being pricked by a thousand needles, but she couldnously mocked herself. Wasn't Ashton drifting further away exactly what she wanted? Why should she ache for him?
Just as she predicted, Ashton and Endora were tangled up in a mess that seemed impossible to untangle, all thanks to Endora's numerous schemes.
The child she was carrying was doomed never to recognize Ashton as a father. It was a connection without destiny.
"Tiana, are you okay?" Whitney popped her head into the car.
"I'm fine. It's not like Endora's suicide attempt was aimed at me. Whoever she was targeting should just marry her," Tiana joked without any real humor, her smile more pained than her tears. Whitney could see right through her.
Ashton, overhearing from the front seat, erupted, "Tiana, have you lost your mind? You think just because you're carrying-"
Whitney quickly stuffed a corn cob into Ashton's mouth, silencing him with a stern warning glance.
Fine, Tiana was now untouchable, a sacred cow not to be antagonized lest she decides to terminate Parker's unborn child in a moment of despair.
Parker was truly embroiled in a mess, with Endora clinging to him like a leech that couldn't be shaken off.
He watched anxiously.
-
In the Doonan Hospital in Banyan City.
The midday sun was abundant, but its warmth failed to penetrate the gloom of the hospital office, where the atmosphere was as cold as a freezer, especially with Parker's arrival deepening the chill. Parker disembarked from his helicopter, striding into the hospital lobby with a composed demeanor.
Winston stood at the office door, flanked by the mothers of Parker and Barclay, and other significant family elders.
Winston's secretaries and bodyguards hovered nearby.
Parker's gaze swiftly found Endora's weeping parents outside the surgery room.
His look turned icy, filled with scorn.
"What are you looking at?" Winston was the first to speak.
Parker turned, a mocking smile on his lips as he greeted respectfully, "Dad."
Winston surveyed him coldly.
Then, with a sudden 'thud,' Parker's mother's face went pale.
Barclay's mother was also surprised by the sound, seeing Parker stagger under the blow, a trickle of blood at his mouth, which brought her a perverse delight.
"Dear!" Parker's mom stepped forward.
Cato and Alice, alerted by the commotion, came over, feigning concern and blocking Winston, "Parker's back, huh! Winston, what's this about?"
"You can't seriously harm my son-in-law!" Alice's eyes brimmed with tears.
Parker glanced coldly over, "Who's your son-in-law? Now that everyone's here, let me make things clear. Dad, Endora and I had our engagement annulled a month ago.
It was only due to her manipulations that I delayed making it public.
I've come back today to clarify the annulment to everyone."
"What? Parker, how could you be so heartless? Endora attempted suicide because of you! She's lying in the surgery room right now, between life and death! You can't do this, Winston, this isn't right!" Alice wailed in despair.
Cato, dragging her back, also reddened with anger, "Winston, we've always thought highly of Parker. Three years of engagement, we've treated him like our own son. Look at him!
He's grown tired of Endora and heartlessly discarded her!
Poor my Endora, three years ago she miscarried for him, leading to infertility for life.
This scandal has spread, how will our Endora ever marry? Her whole life is ruined!"
Ah, using that as leverage?
Parker, under Winston's increasingly dark glare, laughed cynically, "Endora claims she miscarried three years ago, but I never saw it myself.
An issue not raised three years ago suddenly comes up now?
Dad, can I believe it?
Besides, the so-called infertility caused by the miscarriage? That medical report was nothing but a fake, bought from a doctor in Emperor City. I don't even need to see it.
If you don't believe me, once she wakes up, I'll personally ensure she undergoes a thorough examination. Let's see if she truly can't bear children for the rest of her life!" Alice's face paled slightly at his words.
Parker, impervious to coercion, had secretly discovered Endora's scheme with the Emperor City doctor?
Her panic was caught by Cato, who quickly signaled her.
Alice then remembered, before her 'suicide' attempt, Endora had instructed her: as long as she insisted on having miscarried for Parker, the Doonan family wouldn't dare force her to undergo examination. Moreover, she truly had miscarried for another man; even if examined, she could bluff her way through! Three years ago, she "sacrificed" her virtue to save Parker, who had no memory of that night. Months later, when he found his "savior," Parker never questioned whether she had been pregnant.
Now, she could entirely fabricate a miscarriage story because Parker had no idea.
If she insisted on the miscarriage, the Doonan family had to acknowledge it.
As for the infertility, as long as the rumor spread and Banyan City heard of it, the scandal would pressure the Doonan family.
Regardless of Parker's desire to prove otherwise, that she could still bear children, the key was that no man would dare marry her now.
Winston would surely pressure Parker to marry her for the sake of the Doonan family's reputation.
This was Endora's desperate plan, a gamble of putting herself at risk to secure a future.
Their family feared Parker, a formidable figure with influence in both the underworld and high society. But unless they gambled big, they'd lose their shot at glory and riches.
Alice stood her ground, tears brimming in her eyes as she faced Parker's accusatory gaze. She launched into her defense with all the drama of a three-act play, turning her wails towards a hesitantly furrowed-browed Winston. "Oh, Parker, it's just low to pick on our Endora like this. She would never joke about something like this. You know, for a woman, having children is the ultimate joy. Her infertility, it's all because of the miscarriage she suffered for you..."
"And why wasn't this miscarriage mentioned back then? Now, after my disappearance, she's been seen with a string of men. She's desperate to break off our engagement, and suddenly it's all about a miscarriage from years ago?" Parker's laugh was sharp, his features cold.
Winston frowned, turning his gaze towards Alice.
With eyes wide and filled with tears, Alice bellowed, "Oh, the injustice! Our Endora, involved with other men? Never!
Winston, remember when Parker had that mishap in Emperor City two months ago? Endora was the first to rush to his side. You know this. Her love for Parker is as true as it gets!
And about the miscarriage, she kept it from Parker because she didn't want to cause any trouble.
They had just gotten engaged, and Endora feared Parker would reject her."
