Love beyond the mask ( Whitney ) -
Chapter 925
expect... he suffered a heart attack at four in the morning."
Fabian appeared ghostly pale under Tiana's gaze, barely managing a word before he was whisked into an ambulance. A police officer, brief and apologetic, explained, "We received orders this morning to allow Mr. Melford to be hospitalized. Unfortunately, we didn't "The duty staff realized at seven, unable to wake him, and we immediately notified you to come for him. You better get him to the hospital."
Tears streamed down Tiana's face as she hurriedly thanked them and followed into the ambulance, "Dad, dad...?"
It was then Whitney called-
"Hey, Whitney, I've got my dad."
"Mr. Melford's really been released?" Whitney sounded surprised, quickly adding, "How's he doing?"
"Heart attack, now unconscious." Tiana could hardly speak through her tears, clutching half a pill tightly, "I need you here, Whitney."
"I'm on my way!"
Fabian was rushed to Skyfaith Hospital, part of Ludwik's empire in Banyan City.
Whitney arrived an hour later.
Tiana stood vigil outside the ICU, guarding her father.
Several specialists began their examination inside.
"Whitney, you're just in time." Tiana turned to see Whitney, passing her sterile gowns and gloves, "Can you check on my dad, work with the doctors? You're a naturopath, I need to know if there's any toxic substance in his heart?" Whitney understood.
Tiana hoped she could identify the poison Endora used.
"You have the experience, you found the toxins in Ludwik's mother, Natalie. Barclay only gave me half a pill!"
"Calm down, Tiana, I'll have a look."
Entering the room, Whitney saw doctors shaking their heads.
One pressed on Fabian's heart, another reviewed the blood work, discussing, "The patient's heart issues are chronic, having undergone four bypass surgeries. His condition is critical, low hemoglobin and high bilirubin levels, his heart is failing, and insufficient blood supply could lead to brain hypoxia, causing brain death from cardiac arrest... Heart transplant isn't an option now."
"He's been poisoned!" Whitney interjected.
The lead doctor turned, "Poisoned?"
"Can't you detect any toxins through the blood test?" Whitney approached, "May I see the blood work?"
""Who are you?"
"I'm a licensed naturopath."
Handing over the results with a frown, "Without your heads up, I wouldn't have suspected poisoning, given his heart condition. The viral markers in his blood only hint at anomalies, pinpointing the toxin would require detailed blood analysis."
Whitney, with a stern look, realizing Endora's poison was covert, prepared for it to go undetected.
If Fabian had died in custody without autopsy suspicions, it would be ruled a natural death.
Thus, Endora wouldn't be implicated, explaining her boldness.
"Doctor, could you provide a blood sample?" Whitney requested, receiving a vial from an assistant.
She immediately took it for comprehensive analysis.
Two hours later, she emerged with a grim face.
Tiana approached, watching Whitney remove her gloves, anxiously asking, "Any luck identifying the toxin?"
"Synthetic biotoxin," Whitney frowned, not optimistic, "But pinpointing the components will take time, and developing an antidote even longer. Mr. Melford is critical, and I fear my antidote might not be comprehensive.
Tiana, given Mr. Melford's condition, without detoxification, he won't last two more days."
"So, I have no choice..." Tiana's hope dwindled, clutching the half-pill, "to give this to my dad first?"
"Endora wouldn't risk a placebo in this gamble, fearing mutual destruction! Administer it to your uncle, to bring him around first, it's crucial for a chance at a heart transplant."
Tiana nodded, her expression sorrowful, "How could Endora possess such potent yet concealed toxins? Even you struggle to develop a precise antidote, indicating its potency. I know the Endora's financial standing; they don't own a pharmaceutical company!" Whitney's hands rested by her sides, fingers gently rubbing together, her curiosity piqued upon discovering the toxic components in Mr. Melford's blood, feeling a familiar dread.
Her eyes darkened, turning to Tiana, "I know of two experts in poisons, one, Florence, is currently missing. The other is..."
"You mean, Elaine?" Tiana's lips turned down, eyes widening.
Whitney's fingers tightened slightly, her cold gaze narrowing, "Remember Natalie's prolonged poisoning after her kidney transplant? Ludwik couldn't trace it! Elaine's family owns Bartels Pharmaceutical, and she's used hallucinogens on my uncle before. Forbidden substances are her forte."
"Are you suggesting... Elaine might have returned?" Tiana was incredulously agitated, feeling a burning anger within.
Whitney remained noncommittal, "It seems Endora might not have the capability or cunning alone. And the toxins in Mr. Melford's body bear a resemblance to Bartels Pharmaceutical's handiwork."
Thinking back on all the trouble Elaine had caused, Tiana shuddered, "After Ludwik cut out her kidney and imprisoned her, she still managed to escape from the hospital. It's all because Ashton let her get away with everything! Whitney, Elaine must hate Ludwik, and she hates you too. If she comes back, we might be in for some trouble."
"She's like a cat lurking in the shadows, chasing after illusions. Let her show herself if she dares," Whitney retorted fearlessly.
After a moment of silence, Whitney received a text from Ashton: "I picked Cherry up. She spent the night over at Parker's place, not sure what she was up to but the kid's over the moon, says she wants to see you!"
It seemed like Cherry had managed to snag some hair.
Feeling a bit uplifted, Whitney stood up, ready to leave, "Tiana, can I step out for a couple of hours? Keep an eye on Mr. Melford for me, I'll be back soon."
Tiana hesitated for a second before grabbing Whitney's sleeve, looking up with a despondent expression, "Whitney, I've decided to go through with the abortion today."
Whitney's eyes widened in shock, her body going rigid as she clutched at Tiana, "Why?"
