Whitney couldn't believe it-neither she nor Parker could get rid of this destitute, malevolent woman.

"It's like they say, the barefoot aren't afraid of those with shoes. Right now, Elaine is acting all high and mighty because she's got nothing to lose," she said with a chilling tone, her frustration evident as she squinted her eyes menacingly. "You better stay out of this for now. Ashton's being stubborn as a mule, and he might just pick a fight with you. I'm off to the hospital."

"You're going after Elaine?" Parker asked, his lips pursed. "Don't do anything rash. I'll think of something. I won't let Cherry's grudge go unavenged."

"What's pulling the plug compared to what she's done?" Whitney said with a sinister laugh, then hung up.

She changed her clothes and left the hotel, driving straight to TriMed Hospital in Banyan City, her aura seething with a vendetta.

As she arrived, two bodyguards she had sent ahead came out to meet her, reporting the situation. "Ms. Valentine, we've been watching."

"Has Elaine had her surgery? Is Ashton around?"

"Ashton was here, watching over her surgery. He left just a while ago, even arrested one of Mr. Parker's guys-looked like he was taking him to the police station himself!" Whitney's gaze turned cold.

No wonder she couldn't get in touch with Parker's guy.

Probably got caught by Ashton last night. Ashton, a former soldier known for tackling dangerous missions, had exceptional skills.

This misguided fool, by taking such an action, was clearly challenging Parker.

He was sulking and since he couldn't touch Parker himself, he made a scapegoat out of his man.

Was this his way of setting an example for her and Parker?

Such a stubborn, foolish man.

A smirk played on Whitney's lips, knowing Ashton wasn't by Elaine's side made things easier-she didn't want to get into a brawl and delay her plans.

"So, the woman made it?" She asked mockingly.

The bodyguards nodded, "We saw her being wheeled out of surgery into the ICU. She's alive."

"Of course, she is." Toying with her own life was just a ploy to win Ashton's pity and cling onto him as her meal ticket.

With a smirk, Whitney signaled for them to keep watch and walked into the hospital.

Reaching the ICU on the fifth floor, Whitney put on a mask and approached the nurse's station. Before they could ask who she was looking for, she slid a stack of bills under the counter. The nurses exchanged bewildered looks, their eyes darting uncertainly at Whitney.

"I'm going in there. Don't disturb me," Whitney said coolly, pointing to a room and emphasizing her point by tapping the money.

The nurses hesitated, then, eyes glued to the cash, sat back down.

Whitney made her way to Elaine's room in the ICU, pressing the button to open the glass door.

A blast of cold air hit her as she entered-

Elaine, under an oxygen mask, slowly opened her eyes, her lips dry, her chest aching intensely. She weakly called out, "Nurse, can I have some water?"

A cup of water was handed to her from behind, by a slender, pale hand without medical gloves-nails polished in a distinctly feminine shade.

Elaine immediately sensed something was off and tried to look up.

Splash-!

The water was slowly poured over her face, drenching her oxygen mask and causing her to almost choke.

"Cough... Who, who are you?!" Elaine struggled in panic.

Every minor movement tugged at her heart wound, causing cold sweat to form on her pale, ghostlike face, leaving her too weak to move.

Whitney stepped into view.

Cold and menacing, she stared down at Elaine, who was gasping for air, her gaze as still as a frozen lake.

"It's you... Whitney?!" Elaine said in shock and anger, her face turning ashen as if she were a corpse, staring at the woman before her, trying to reach for the call button.

Whitney swiftly moved, flinging the call cord away!

"What are you doing? Don't even think about killing me-Ashton's just outside, and he won't let you off this time!" Elaine's voice was hoarse with fear, yet there was a hint of triumph in her eyes. She had the look of a victor.

Whitney looked down on her, moving her hand slowly towards Elaine's chest wound, her mouth twisting into a cold smirk, "Going through all this trouble just to win Ashton back, to earn his sympathy and hang onto him as your safety net. You've really outdone yourself with this drama."

Elaine froze for a moment, her sarcasm unmistakable.

With just the two of them, there was no point in pretending. A dark smile crept across her pale face, and despite barely hanging onto life, she managed to smirk at Whitney, "You know, I should thank you for sending that assassin last night. Otherwise, I wouldn't have figured out how to keep Ashton."

"Elaine, you've spent your life chasing fame and fortune, never taking a break."

Whitney's cold mockery was evident as her gaze turned sharp, her anger simmering. She began to tamper with Elaine's bandage, her smile sinister as if she were the grim reaper, "You thought you'd survive, but if I press down right now, you'd meet your maker." "You wouldn't dare! The hospital has cameras!" Elaine exclaimed, startled by Whitney's audacity.

Biting her lip in resentment, she said, "Whitney, I've let go of Ludwik. We're like water and oil now; why are you still after me? I haven't crossed your path!

Oh, and speaking of which, I find you quite amusing, sticking around Banyan City to target me.

You'd be better off heading back to Emperor City. Have you managed to keep Ludwik's affairs in order?

You're not as clever as you think."

Elaine's excitement grew as she remembered something, her eyes narrowing, struggling to lean closer to Whitney.

Whitney's face was a mask of indifference, clearly uninterested in entertaining her nonsense, believing she was all bark and no bite. "Save your clever tricks for someone else. Either way, you're not walking out of this ICU today. As long as you're breathing, you're nothing but trouble!"

"Do you know why I think you're the dumbest of all?" Elaine said, taking a deep breath, talking more to herself than to Whitney.

Whitney scowled.

Elaine, gasping for breath, moved closer, a sneer forming on her face. "You've been played by Florence, spinning in circles while she swiped something precious right from under your nose. And here you are, wasting your time with me. If I were you, I'd be freaking out!" Florence had secretly stolen Whitney's embryo, a fact Elaine had discovered only after spending a hefty sum to follow Florence around and bribing a doctor at the hospital to spill the beans!
