Love beyond the mask ( Whitney ) -
Chapter 997
North?
That's Berlidon, the capital of Germinia, the powerhouse of its commercial and political spheres.
Ludwik closed his eyes briefly, licking his lips, "Come pick me up, heading to Berlidon. I'm injured."
Was Bryce deliberately stalling, perhaps buying time for Florence?
Why were they heading to Berlidon?
Ludwik stared at his severed arm, gritting his teeth in a low growl as he connected it back.
With a grimace, he stood up and walked over to the lifeless driver beside him, pulling out the driver's smartphone. After a quick search, sure enough, he saw a text sent to a domestic number - it was about him, Ludwik. With a cold chuckle, he sent a message: "Ludwik fell into the mountains, fate unknown, mission accomplished."
Then, he tossed the phone away.
Let Bryce relax his guard. He'd head straight to Berlidon, eager to uncover their schemes.
-
Two days later.
Erik laid a document with DNA test results on the desk in front of Parisa.
The woman, closing her luxury pen, looked over the results, her face going pale under the sunlight. She double-checked the 99% mother-daughter match, then lifted her gaze to her assistant, "Are you sure there's no mistake?" "Chairwoman, I sought out Germinia's most authoritative DNA testing center. I personally watched the doctor submit your hair and the young lady's for analysis. There couldn't be an error," Erik confidently replied. Parisa pinched the bridge of her nose, her eyes flickering with complex emotions.
There was disbelief - she had found her daughter in the world so easily?
Her emotions were tumultuous, leaning on her desk, "Find a way to bring that girl to me. I need to see her!"
Erik was efficient. Soon, he found a haggard-looking Florence among the homeless under a bridge and promptly brought her to Inko.
Following Erik into the CEO's office, Florence kept her head down, hiding her eyes. When she looked up, it was with a nervous glance forward.
Parisa, arms crossed and emanating an aura of elegance and chill, turned from behind her desk, examining this stranger 'daughter' with complex emotions.
"Ah." The sight of the woman made Florence gasp in shock!
Her face filled with astonishment, her eyes wide as she stepped forward, "Your face..."
Touching her own face, she sobbed in disbelief, "Mom... Mom, is that you? I've been searching for you... oh..."
The pregnant girl suddenly threw herself into Parisa's arms, overwhelmed with emotion, tears streaming down her face, "I never thought I'd find you here, Mom, I finally found you! Mr. Erik, what's happening?" Florence, wiping her tears, looked bewilderedly at Erik.
Her innocent, uneasy demeanor seemed genuinely unaware of everything.
Erik didn't respond immediately, instead looking to Parisa for cues.
Hearing the calls of 'Mom', Parisa's heart ached, but for some reason, when Florence approached her, she felt an inexplicable reluctance, even disliking Florence's face and eyes.
It was hard to explain, as if there wasn't a natural closeness between mother and daughter.
She instinctively pulled away slightly from Florence, her sharp gaze observing her, her expression calming slightly, "Child, what's your name, how old are you? Where do you come from?"
But Florence noticed her movements.
Feeling rejected, Florence backed away a bit, biting her lip nervously, "I'm sorry! I was too excited and threw myself at you. Mom, do you dislike me? Or do you not remember me? I'm Florence, I've missed you so much..." Saying this, her tears fell again, her face pale.
Parisa softened.
After all, according to the DNA test, this girl was her flesh and blood.
She shook her head, smiling for the first time, "I've been alone for years, my temperament has grown cold, don't be offended. Why did you come to find me? And how did you know I was your mother?"
There was an underlying question in her heart.
Even with the DNA results, this woman wasn't fully convinced just yet!
Florence had rehearsed her story a thousand times in her heart, looking down as she said, "Mom, my name is Florence, your daughter from Harmonia Country. We were separated when I was just over five. You and grandpa were hiding in Banyan City from my father's wife's assassins. There was a terrible car accident, and grandpa died instantly.
I never found you again... Don't you remember?"
Florence had naturally investigated Whitney's backstory in Banyan City before coming. She mentioned these details, testing Parisa.
However, Parisa only frowned, her expression lost, "My father is dead? Do I have any other family?"
It was almost certain to Florence that she had lost all her memories.
Her heart sank, tears on her face, "I have an uncle. After the accident, I lived with him, struggling but peacefully.
Then suddenly, my biological father found me and took me back to Emperor City.
But he had remarried and had a daughter with his wife.
I thought, since he once loved you, despite abandoning you, he would at least treat me kindly.
But once I was in that home, my nightmare began.
His daughter, Whitney, was jealous, fearing I would take over the family business, kept framing me, targeting me.
My stepmother also plotted against me, wanting me dead.
I was living on the edge in that house, my reputation destroyed by their schemes.
Later, I saved the heir of Harmonia Country, Ludwik's mother, and we fell in love and got engaged. When Whitney found out I was to marry well, she couldn't stand it, and she stole Ludwik from me, making him abandon me.
I was already pregnant with Ludwik's child by then. I begged my father, but he turned a blind eye.
I finally realized, he loved his legitimate daughter more than me, the child you bore.
Oh, Whitney had a fiancé, Bryce, who truly loved her.
But she kicked Bryce to the curb for the sake of the big-shot, teaming up with him to blacklist Bryce. If it weren't for Mr. Lutz helping me escape their clutches, I wouldn't have made it to Germinia.
But here I am, and Ludwik, driven mad, still hunts me down, brainwashed by Whitney.
The car accident that day? That was Ludwik's doing, an assassination attempt.
They knew I was pregnant. Whitney wanted to cut the problem off at the root!
Mom, I don't care about my own life, but I wanted to find you before I died, to fulfill Uncle's last wish."
Listening to this, Parisa's face turned stone cold, her expression one of uncontrollable anger. In essence, she was discarded by a jerk in her youth, who went on to start another family and had an older daughter. Her own daughter, returning home, faced nothing but torment from that mother and sister!
"Last wish?" Parisa's face fell, her thoughts drifting to her long-forgotten brother, her heart tightening, "Your uncle... is he dead?"
