Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1203: Saving for a rainy day
"Hello Mr. Manzanares," Bergerian smiled politely.
"This is Mr Bergerian's first time attending a party in the country, I believe." Manzanares laughed. Bergerian nodded, "Yes, the first time."
"And no introduction to your lady friend?" Manzanares asked, gesturing to Eloise beside him.
"My Venus, Sofía."
Bergerian put his arm around Eloise's waist and introduced her with a smile.
Seeing this, Manzanares eyes flashed quickly with a sharp glint and the smile on his face deepened, "Hello, Miss. Sofía."
Was he pretending not to know him?
Eloise gathered up the doubt in her mind, the corners of her mouth curved and she said lightly, "Hello."
"Mr Bergerian, can I borrow your lady friend for a moment?" Manzanares asked, seemingly offhandedly.
"Hmm?" Bergerian's brow furrowed slightly.
Manzanares raised an eyebrow and gestured for him to look a short distance away, "There's a blind date my mother set me up with, and I don't like her, so ..." He looked at Eloise with intent.
Bergerian was a smart man and understood what he meant at once and laughed, "I'm afraid that's not good, she's only allowed to stay with me all this evening." The implication was a refusal.
Manzanares didn't look disappointed, but smiled, "I guess I'll just have to fend for myself."
Bergerian smiled and said nothing more.
If she was right, Manzanares was here to help her.
Eloise bit her lip and said, "Bergerian, there's a word for helping people, do you know it?"
"What does it mean?" Bergerian looked at her with interest.
"Taking pleasure in helping others." Eloise glanced at Manzanares, "I want to help him."
"Oh?" Bergerian looked at Manzanares and raised an eyebrow, "Are you sure?"
"I'm sure."
She looked decisive.
Bergerian pondered for a moment before nodding, "Fine, as you wish."
It wasn't that easy for her to escape since the party was so big and his men were everywhere anyway. "Thanks."
Eloise said thank you and followed Manzanares away.
"Sister-in-law, why are you with him?"
Manzanares asked in a lowered voice only after walking some distance away.
"I don't have time to go into details with you now, what are you doing here?" Eloise asked as she pretended to look around without thinking.
I don't know if it was just her own illusion, but there were people staring at her all around.
If she was correct, those would be Bergerian's people.
"I came to the party too and happened to run into your cousin and he asked me to help." Manzanares answered back truthfully. "And where is my cousin?"
Her cousin must have been worried sick when Bergerian's men took her away as soon as she arrived at the hotel. "Over there."
Eloise followed Manzanares' line of sight before she saw her cousin surrounded by several women.
She couldn't help but frown, "Is my cousin getting the hang of it? That he knows how to deal with women now?" "That's for cover."
Edgar wouldn't have made such a sacrifice if he hadn't been afraid of being discovered by that Bergerian.
Eloise lost her smile, "Let's get over there then, or I'm afraid my cousin won't be able to carry it." They walked over quickly.
As soon as he saw them coming, Edgar, who had a taut, handsome face, immediately relaxed.
"Cousin." Eloise stood in front of him.
Edgar hurriedly looked up and down, "Did he do anything to you?"
Eloise shook her head, "No."
"That's good," Edgar sighed in relief, he glanced in Bergerian's direction and said, "You can't stay here, we're leaving now."
With that, he took Eloise's hand and was about to head for the exit.
"Wait, cousin." Eloise hurried to stop him.
Edgar frowned fiercely, "What's wrong?"
"Bergerian hasn't told me when Earlene is returning, I can't leave."
She had been Bergerian's date, how could she stop halfway?
"No, you have to come with me."
Edgar was pulling her away without a word.
Eloise could only shake his hand away, "Cousin, look around, we can't leave that easily."
At her comment, both Edgar and Manzanares looked around.
One furrowed his brow.
One looked bewildered.
"What's around, sister-in-law?" Manzanares asked, puzzled.
Eloise sighed, "There are Bergerian's watching all around."
Edgar sneered, "He's really got a lot on his mind."
"What the hell does that Bergerian mean?" Manzanares got a little angry, "He's sick to send someone to spy on you in addition to coercing you to be his date, isn't he?"
"I talked to him about the terms." Eloise looked to Edgar, "Cousin, just listen to me this time, okay?"
"I'm sorry, Eloise, I can't let you get hurt one more time." Edgar pressed his hands on her shoulders, his expression firm, "I don't think Hector would want you to risk your life either, Earlene will be back, we can wait, but what if Hector comes back and you're gone?"
Eloise's lips were pursed, knowing that Edgar had obviously made up his mind, and that he was right.
If Bergerian had really only asked her to be his companion for one night, why would he have arranged for so many people to keep an eye on her?
With that in mind, she took a deep breath, "Okay, I'll do as you say. The question is, how do we get out of here with all these people watching?"
Edgar's eyes narrowed slightly, "Don't worry, I've arranged for someone too."
"You've arranged for someone too?" Manzanares' eyes widened in surprise.
Edgar pulled the corner of his mouth up, "A rainy day."
Edgar looked at Eloise with a somewhat serious look, "I'll have someone create a panic later, you and Mr. Manzanares take the opportunity to leave." With that said, Edgar looked at Manzanares, "Mr. Manzanares, I may have to trouble you to protect Eloise."
Manzanares smiled, "She's my sister-in-law, it's only right that I protect her."
"Then it will be hard for you."
With that, Manzanares led Eloise back to the party and blended in among the guests, talking and laughing naturally without showing a hint of difference. After about ten minutes or so, there was a sudden commotion not far away.
The attention of almost all the guests was drawn to it.
Manzanares and Eloise exchanged glances, knowing that Edgar had arranged it.
So that Bergerian wouldn't get suspicious, they gathered around, just like everyone else.
It turned out to be two men arguing over a woman.
"She obviously came over to have a drink with me first, what do you mean you came over to interfere?"
"Who said she came over to drink with you, she clearly came over to me."
...
The two men argued with one another.
I don't know who said something unpleasant and the two men fought.
This fight, the two sides of the friends rushed up to try to pull people away, but who knows fists and feet without eyes, hit the people pulling the fight, the scene immediately into a mess, several people wrestling together. "Call the police, call the police!" Someone shouted.
Manzanares looked back around and didn't see Bergerian or his men, so he looked down and whispered quickly in Eloise's ear, "Sister-in-law, let's leave while we can." "Good."
Manzanares took Eloise and quickly ran for the door.
But just as they reached the door, they saw Bergerian and his men waiting just outside.
Despite the faint smile on Bergerian's face, Manzanares and Eloise felt a chill pounding on their faces.
The two swallowed in unison.
"Sofía, where do you want to go?" Bergerian asked, speaking up.
"I ..." Eloise's eyes drifted a little, not knowing how to answer for a moment.
"I'm hiding from that woman and I can't help it so I'm taking her with me."
Luckily Manzanares had a sharp brain and came up with that excuse.
But there was no telling if Bergerian would believe it.
"Is that so?" Bergerian looked at them suspiciously.
Manzanares pulled his lips into a smile, "Yes, Mr Bergerian."
Bergerian stepped closer and stood in front of Eloise, looking down, his dark gaze falling on her face.
"Sofía, is it true what he said?"
Eloise glanced at him, bowed her head and gave a soft "yes".
Bergerian fell silent.
The atmosphere was a little tense.
Eloise and Manzanares couldn't help but be nervous too.
They were afraid that Bergerian would not believe them.
It was only after a long time that Bergerian spoke slowly, "I believe you."
With that cry, both Eloise and Manzanares breathed a secret sigh of relief. But Bergerian's next words made them lift their hearts again. "Sofía, just because I believe you doesn't mean you can deceive me."
