Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1456: Knowing people's faces and hearts.
"Profit can be more important to some people than even life."
As soon as Mark's words left his mouth, the door to his office was pushed open and Alfred rushed in.
"Prince, they checked."
Alvaro asked excitedly at the sound of it, "Have you found the mole?"
Alfredo turned his head to look at him, "He only looked suspicious, we still can't be sure that person is the mole."
"Who?" Marcos asked.
"Leopoldo. An employee of the R&D department."
"Leopoldo?" frowned Alvaro, "I think I've seen him several times, he seems honest and straightforward. He doesn't look like someone who is going to sell the company." "Second prince, he knows people."
In Alfredo's opinion, people who seem honest are not necessarily honest.
Alvaro raised an eyebrow, "So you're on to something?".
"Leopoldo does seem honest and doesn't seem to have any bad habits. But what you may not have realized is that he has tens of millions of dollars in foreign debts and loan sharks." "Tens of millions?!" Alvaro was stunned.
Even Marcos had a look of surprise in his eyes.
"How can he owe so much money for being a simple employee of the company?" Alvaro couldn't understand.
"For gambling." Alfredo said, "After some research, Leopoldo got hooked on gambling some time ago, and at first maybe he made a little money. People always get greedy, so he tried to win big and the more he gambled, the more he lost.
He even mortgaged his house and the hole got bigger and bigger, so he had no choice but to borrow from loan sharks. Besides, he is in the middle of a divorce process with his wife and lately he goes out early and comes home late." Alvaro shook his head with a "tsk", "Gambling really hurts people."
Then he turned to Marcos, "Brother, now that we have a motive, all that's left is the evidence."
Leopoldo owed so much money that he would surely do risky things to pay it back.
Only, at the moment, there was no evidence to prove that he had done what he did.
"Alfredo, keep watching the man and report to me immediately if anything happens." ordered Marcos.
Alfredo nodded, "Good."
"If you want people to know, you don't need to." Alvaro scoffed, "It seems that Leopoldo is a very mentally strong man, otherwise how could he not reveal a single failure in the company's interrogation twice."
"If he wasn't strong, how could he do something like betraying the company?" Marcos raised his hand and squeezed his eyebrows, "When this is over, the company should take more interest in its employees. If the company had found out about Leopoldo's gambling in time, it could have avoided what happened later.
"You are right, it is very important to take more care of the employees so that they have more confidence in the company and avoid something similar to Leopoldo's happening again." Alvaro said approvingly. "Then I leave the matter to you." Marcos said softly.
"Huh?" Alvaro froze, "Brother, how am I going to do so much with just one person and two hands?"
"Or do I do it myself?" Marcos raised an eyebrow and gave him a good look.
"Forget it then." Alvaro waved his hand, "With that iceberg face you have, the staff would think you were going to tell them off if they didn't know."
Marcos laughed lightly, "That's hard for you."
"Who made me your brother? It's the right thing to do."
Alvaro's tone sounded reluctant, but he took up the charge to attend to his staff.
...
These days, Marcos has to work late every day before going home.
Sometimes it was already one or two in the morning when he got home.
Deliberately, his steps are light, for fear of waking the family.
This morning, Paulina wakes up and Marcos has already left for work.
Her eyebrows furrow and she sighs heavily.
Last night she had fallen asleep at almost midnight and he hadn't even returned.
The thought of him coming home in the middle of the night and getting up early in the morning was painful.
How could her body stand it if he kept it up?
No!
She had to find a way to give him a tonic.
With this in mind, she hurried out of bed, slipped on her slippers and ran downstairs, just as Ms.
"Paulina, where are you going in such a hurry?" asked Mrs. Gloria, quizzical.
"Mom, do you have chicken or fish ready at home?".
Paulina sounded so anxious that Mrs. Gloria couldn't help but lose her smile, "Yes, what is it?"
"I want to make soup for Marcos to nourish his body, he's been so tired lately."
At the mention of Marcos, Mrs. Gloria's heart went out to her, "Yes, he is very tired lately. Mom will get him ready, you go upstairs and rest."
Paulina shook her head, "No, I want to do it for him."
Mrs. Gloria laughed and joked, "If Marcos had had your soup, he would have been refreshed, he wouldn't have been tired."
"Mom, don't laugh at me ..."
"Go upstairs and change first, I'll have the kitchen prepare the ingredients."
"Thanks mom."
Paulina quickly went upstairs to change, washed up and then went to the kitchen to start preparing the stew.
In the evening, Marcos came home at an unusual time for dinner.
As soon as he entered the house, Mrs. Gloria said to him with a smile, "Marcos, did you know that Paulina made the soup for you and came home early on purpose?" Marcos frowned, "How come Paulina ...?"
Before he could finish his sentence, he heard Ms. Gloria say, "Paulina is heartbroken for you and specially made you chicken soup to tone up your body."
Paulina heard that Marcos had returned and hurried downstairs just in time to hear what Ms. Gloria was saying.
She smiled and walked over to her, "Marcos, eat, I'll serve you the soup."
Paulina pulled Marcos toward the dining room and squeezed him into a chair, "Wait for me."
As he watched her walk quickly towards the kitchen, Marcos' eyes couldn't help but soften and the corners of his lips slowly curved.
It seemed that the mere sight of her made all the hard work disappear.
Soon, Paulina slowly approached him with a steaming bowl of chicken soup.
He hurriedly got up and tried to help her.
But she stopped him, "Sit down all right, you don't have to help me."
He could only give in and watched as she rested the bowl of soup on the table in front of him.
"It's hot." Paulina raised her hands and pinched her earlobes, then smiled, "It's chicken soup that's been simmering over low heat all day, I've tasted it whole, it's just right, not too salty, not too bland, and it's still fresh." At that moment Alvaro and Bonita approached.
Alvaro inhaled sharply and said enviously, "How good it smells."
He looked at Marcos and Paulina and said accusingly to Bonita next to him, "Bonita, I want to have chicken soup too, why don't you cook it for me?"
Paulina thought he was serious and said, "Bonita is pregnant, how is she going to make soup for you? I made a pot of stew, it's not like your brother can eat it alone, there's enough for everyone."
