Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 319: Someone else behind the scenes
Hector glanced at Eloise before returning, "One dead, three wounded, all that needs to be admitted. There's been a small problem, though." "What's the problem?"
"The suspect confessed that Agnes had instructed him to do these things, but when confronted with Agnes, said he didn't know Agnes." "What do you mean?" Rupert frowned.
"Meaning that the Agnes he knows is not the Agnes we know," Eloise explained.
With this explanation, Rupert understood, "Which means it has nothing to do with Agnes."
"Not necessarily." Hector shook his head, "Maybe it's related."
Speaking of which, he turned his head to Eloise and enquired, "Did you notice Agnes looking a little off when she confronted the suspect?"
Eloise nodded slightly hesitantly as she tried to recall, "Something doesn't seem right, but I'm not sure."
That Lynn said a lot of things at the time, but Agnes denied them all, and Lynn also said she had never met Agnes.
And who exactly is this Agnes he speaks of?
Rupert thought for a moment and said, "Then there is someone else behind the scenes."
"Rupert, the people you sent to keep an eye on Agnes, did they see her in contact with anyone?" Hector asked.
"Nope. There's no one else but Mr. and Mrs. Josh, and even Robbie is rarely seen."
Who is it then?
Hector furrows his brow tightly in contemplation.
Rupert looked to Eloise with concern, "Sister-in-law, you're not hurt, are you?"
"No. Thank you for saving me and your brother then."
Eloise looked at him gratefully, for if it hadn't been for Rupert, they would have been dead under the car.
"It's nothing. It's good you're okay." Rupert smiled like a big boy.
Eloise returned the smile, not noticing the wrongness of his words.
It was Hector who looked back at Rupert thoughtfully.
"Sister-in-law, go back and rest, just let my brother stay with me." Rupert said.
She is also a patient and wouldn't dare ask her to help take care of herself.
At that, Eloise deliberately scowled, "Are you kicking me out? I'm pissed off."
Rupert took it seriously and hastily denied it, "Sister-in-law, that's not what I meant, I just..."
The words "I'm worried about you" were on my lips, but I swallowed them again.
"Just what?"
"It's just that..." Rupert's eyes drifted down, "I was afraid my brother would say I didn't know any better when the time came."
Eloise lost her smile, "Don't worry, your brother won't say that about you. After all, you're a lifesaver to us both now."
"Right, Hector," she turned her head to Hector.
Hector nodded with a faint brow.
"Sister-in-law, don't say that, I'm weirdly embarrassed." Rupert looked outside, it was almost dark, so he repeated, "Sister-in-law, really, go back and rest. My brother will be fine here." This time, Eloise didn't say anything else, but smiled and nodded, "Okay, I'll go back and rest. You have a good rest too."
"Hector, I'm going to go back to the ward." Eloise said to Hector.
Hector nodded, "Take care of yourself and call me if anything happens."
"Good."
Eloise nodded towards Rupert and then turned to leave.
When she had left, Hector walked up to Rupert and blocked his view in the direction of the door. "Brother, what are you doing?"
Rupert looked up disgruntled and was about to complain when he met his brother's deep, dark eyes. Heart, can't help but shake.
He averted his eyes somewhat sheepishly, laughed dryly twice, and said, "Who is really behind this?" "Rupert," Hector's voice called in a low tone.
Rupert's heart lifted for a moment, "Brother, are you trying to say something?"
"No." Hector swept a faint glance at his plastered leg, a quick glimpse of imperceptible emotion crossing under his eyes.
"I just wanted to say thanks really for this one."
If he hadn't reacted in time to rush up and push him and Eloise out of the way, both his life and Eloise's would be in danger instead of standing here in one piece.
Not expecting him to say thank you, Rupert was a little flattered and quickly said, "Brother, don't do that, I'm not used to it."
Hector narrowed his eyes, "All I can do is a 'thank you', and you can forget the rest ...."
I don't know if it was just me, why did I feel that he had a deep meaning in that statement?
Rupert raised his eyes to his and once again met his dark eyes, dark and deep, as if they would see into one's mind.
He couldn't have read his mind, could he?
Rupert was shocked and said hastily, "I wasn't thinking of anything else, nothing."
He finished with a sarcastic "huh" smile.
Inexplicably, there is a sense of wanting to cover up.
"No is good." Hector gave him a deep look, then walked over to the couch and sat down.
There was silence in the ward.
Rupert lay in his hospital bed, his eyes staring straight up at the ceiling, his expression a tangle.
After a long time, he turned to look at Hector, "Brother, don't think too much about it, I have nothing on my mind."
At these words, Hector lightly lifted his eyes, his gaze clear and cold, his thin lips lightly parted, "I don't want to think much about what? What do you have in mind again?" Rupert: "..."
Well, let's pretend he didn't mention it, otherwise he'd have accounted for himself.
The ward was once again quiet.
...
Eloise walked back to the ward and was almost there when she unexpectedly saw a familiar face standing outside the ward.
Her face lit up with joy and she walked over quickly.
"Alumni."
It's Egbert.
He rushed to the hospital as soon as he found out about Eloise, but to his surprise, she was not in the ward. He was debating whether to continue waiting or to go back and come back another day, when suddenly a familiar voice came to his
ears.
He turned his head sharply and gave a gentle smile at the sight of Eloise, who approached him.
"Alumni, what brings you here?" Eloise walked up to him.
"To see you." Egbert looked at her worriedly, "I heard about you and came over, are you okay?"
Eloise smiles, "I'm fine. I'm sorry to have worried you."
Egbert looked at the gauze on her head and frowned, "Are you sure you're okay? Did you fall on your head badly?"
"You said that." Eloise lifted her hand and touched the gauze, "Just a bit of a concussion, but it's healed, it's fine."
"Even if you're well, you shouldn't be running around." Egbert scolded sternly, like an old father.
Eloise couldn't help but laugh out loud, "Alumni, I'm really fine. You don't have to be too nervous."
Realising he had overreacted, Egbert was embarrassed, "I'm sorry, I was just so worried about you that I got a bit emotional." "Thank you, Alumni," Eloise said, looking at him gratefully.
Because of his concern, it made her feel like she still had someone who cared about her besides the Rogers family.
