Love In Between -
Chapter 36
Having Gael and my dad, sitting at the same table, is an image that would never have crossed my mind. Much less would I have imagined that my evil boyfriend would be caressing my knee under the table, I want to kill him for doing this to me!
Honestly, I thought my dad and Gael wouldn’t have any topic of conversation in common, but I was wrong. My father tells him about his work and Gael about his company and the new products – Sergio, your daughter has done an amazing job for the press conference – he comments out of the blue and I look surprised at his words.
-Thank you, Gael, you don’t need to talk about me like that,” I say and it’s almost a “please don’t embarrass us”.
My father looks at both of us and smiles, “And how long have you two known each other,” he asks and takes a sip from his wine glass.
-6 months,” he replies, while at the same time I answer 3 months.
“Perfect…”
My father looks at us while trying not to laugh and puts the glass down on the table, “Isn’t it better if you tell me the truth? Daughter, believe me I won’t bother; you’re a big girl,” he suggests and I really hate that he knows me so well.
Somewhat resigned, I look at Gael and arch my eyebrows as if to tell him to explain whatever he wants.
-Mr. Hausser, I’m sorry I tried to lie to you, but your daughter and I were trying to keep our relationship a secret. The truth is that we met at the beginning of July when she went to Malaga and somehow we have kept in touch all this time. With all due respect, I’m very much in love with your daughter and yesterday I formally asked her to be my girlfriend; I’m a very lucky man because she said yes,” he explains in the most respectful way any boyfriend of mine has ever spoken to my father and with a sincere smile tattooed on his face that rubs off on me.
-Wow, that’s pretty strong. My daughter dating a famous businessman,” my father jokes.
-Pa, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to lie to you, I just thought it would be too much information in one day for you,” I say, a little embarrassed by the situation. -Besides, it’s true that Gael is the image of one of my clients. – I defend myself.
-Relax, his secret is safe with me, but that doesn’t mean your mother won’t get a shock when she finds out that her daughter is dating one of her favourite businessmen and public figures. – He jokes, making us both laugh.
-If you want, we can call him and explain everything,” Gael proposes and I think he’s pushing his luck, or mine.
I look at him seriously and I think my father has understood the message; actually, he understands all my looks.
-Better another day. I think Serena wants to warn her mother first. – He jokes, and I don’t understand exactly at what point my father and Gael have started to get along so well.
[…]I decided to get up from the table and start washing the dishes while the two of them were still talking as if they were lifelong friends; it’s actually the strangest situation I’ve ever been in with my father. Normally, he would judge the boys who came into the house and tell me who was and wasn’t good. Apparently with Gael that hasn’t happened; with him he’s happy and talking about everything a bit.
I’m still concentrating on my task when suddenly arms come around my waist from behind. -Can I help you?” he asks in my ear.
-I say nervously and hear him smile.
-He’s gone to his room, he said he was very tired from the trip. You know, I really like my father-in-law. – He says quietly, but I can hear the enthusiasm in his voice.
-You’ve put him in your pocket and I don’t even know if that’s a good thing,” I reply.
-I think it’s very good, you see, you can come to my house tonight,” he says suggestively and I laugh.
-He doesn’t like you that much either,” I comment jokingly.
-Do you think he’ll kill me if I tell him I’m dying to sleep with his daughter? he asks in a whisper and I love his sense of humour.
-Try it, maybe it won’t do anything to you.
-I won’t tempt my luck tonight…. It’s bad enough that the theatre fell apart so soon.
-It was your fault, you should have let me do the talking. – I complain, but my words dissolve when his lips k**s my neck the way he’s doing.
-Well, I’m happy that he knows… This way I can also introduce you to my family and make this relationship serious,” he explains, and I have to admit that I’m a little giddy about the whole situation.
-We’ll talk about that later… now, stop driving me crazy kissing me, so there’s my father,” I ask him and it’s almost a plea.
-You’re scared, but don’t worry… I’ll take your fears away one by one,” he warns me in such a sensual way that it makes me imagine things I shouldn’t at this moment.
How am I supposed to keep my sanity with a man like that?
