Chapter 51

My mother has definitely held nothing back in order to impress the one she says is already her final son-in-law. She has decorated the house as if a politician, king, or who knows what other high-ranking person was coming to visit. The lunch and dinner she has prepared has been as if she had invited at least ten people, not to mention how much she has talked with Gael. I can imagine he’s had enough of her and I wouldn’t blame him.

Calm at last. I close the door to what used to be my room when I came here, but has now been transformed into something resembling a hotel room, and lean against the door for a moment.

I watch him walk around the room and look at every detail in here and he smiles as he sees a framed photo of me on the bedside table. -How old were you here,” he asks me as he picks up the picture frame.

I walk towards him and look at the photo over his shoulder. -Mmmm… I was about 17, I was in my last year of high school,” I explain and he laughs.

-You’ve always been very beautiful, I guess you had all the boys in high school dying for you,” he comments and I don’t agree with what he said.

-Not at all. I counter and he puts the picture frame back.

He turns around and comes closer to me. I don’t know why he’s looking at me in that special way? But, I like it when he does. I don’t have time for anything as his arms wrap around my waist, making the distance between his body and mine zero. -I’ve loved your family. They adore you and care for you as their greatest treasure. – He comments, and I know he’s right.

-That’s true, but I also know they can be a pain in the a*s, especially my mother. I’m sure she’s burnt your head as my father says every time she insists on something too much. – I say and I can’t help laughing when I remember that phrase so typical of him.

I love to see him laugh like he does now. I don’t know why, but I get the feeling that something is happening because his eyes are looking at me differently – I really like that she’s funny like that and that she thinks that you and I are getting married tomorrow and that in a month’s time we’ll tell her she’s going to be a grandmother. They say mothers are never wrong. – He comments, taking me by complete surprise.

He takes one of his hands to my hair and tangles his fingers in it while looking at me. -Okay, but things won’t go the way she wants them to. You and I are taking things slowly, and we’ve already talked about some of these things. I think the best thing we can do now is just enjoy each other and not think about anything else. I don’t want to overthink things or else I’ll go back into fear that all this might end tomorrow,” I say and it’s a simple attempt at an explanation.

-I agree with that, but you and I have been going back and forth for a few months now and I want you to know that I have no intention of it happening again. I think I needed to tell you because I don’t want you to think that because I asked you to take care of yourself,” he tries to say, but I put one of my hands over his mouth to shut him up.

-Now you’re the one who’s overthinking things,” I ask and he smiles at me.

-I just don’t know, I don’t want you to think that I don’t take you seriously,” he justifies himself and I deny it.

-Yeah, no one is thinking that. In fact, you and I should stop doing it so much and let ourselves go like we used to. – I propose and his smile is bigger than this house.

-Here? With your parents just a few doors away from us? he asks a bit worried and I laugh.

-I’ll explain something to you, handsome? In case you don’t know, this house is close to the sea, and here in Florida when that happens they need to build them out of concrete so that if a hurricane happens it won’t be damaged. In conclusion, this house has a good soundproofing, but if you are so worried that they can hear us, I promise I won’t shout,” I say and smiled sideways.

-You’re a little devil,” he mumbles to me as he moves closer to my lips.

-You make me like this,” I defend myself and put my arms around his shoulders.

His lips begin to k**s me passionately, and his hands make it clear that they’re trying to push me over the edge. I love it when he gets like this. I love it when he puts everything aside and just lets himself go.

-I love you like crazy,” he says between k****s.

I smile against his lips, “And I love you, you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” I confess as we fall onto the bed.

I never imagined that a man like him would be undressing me in this bed. Much less did I imagine that I would dare to spend the night with someone under the same roof where my parents sleep, but I have to admit that when he k****s me and touches me like this it makes it all disappear.

I don’t know how he’s managed it, but he’s turned my world upside down and I have little intention of tidying up this beautiful chaos he causes in me when he’s by my side.
