Weeks passed as Madison let go of her worries, and the situation was back to normal aside from the constant call that he got from his mom.

The holidays were coming and Ralph was expected to be back home, while Madison was not enthusiastic to go back to her mom.

"Maybe we should skip the family holidays and have our holiday." Ralph pulled her to his chest while his hand slithered under her tights, she was just back from her morning runs while he was just back from the local gym. The former campus player was at a point where he was syncing his workout schedule to her morning run just so they could spend more time together.

He couldn't get enough of her and with the holidays coming, his brothers were saying that they were expected to have a family trip where his mom was going all out on being the matchmaker for her boys.

"Larry said mom was taking us to a family trip and he has his suspicion that we were going to be introduced to some...I believe his words were future wives."

Ralph kept on talking while his fingers reached between her legs and started stroking her.

Hours later Ralph had an appointment with Walter and Shani, while Madison decided to spend the afternoon having a chat with Kendra at Silvio's. She was liking her company as they talked more about their parents and school and trying their best not to discuss about their men.

But she didn't expect to bump into Ralph's mother as she was about to go home. Brian had picked up Kendra and they parted moments before his mom stepped into the small restaurant. "Mrs. Richardson."

"Ah, Madison what a nice surprise. Please join me, I'm ordering take-out for Ralph's dad."

She awkwardly followed the older woman, Madison was reluctant but didn't want to make his mom hated her more.

"So, were you leaving? I thought you're here with Ralph."

"Yeah and no I'm not here with Ralph, I was just having some coffee with a friend. She just left, Ralph is meeting his friends."

"I see, well...I guess it's good then. I'm glad we have the privacy to talk."

Madison was nervous but sits as his mom waved her hand calling the waiter. She was telling the man her takeaway order, then ordered two cups of coffee for both of them.

"So, how's your parents?" his mom started the conversation which was heading straight downhill for her.

"They're fine, my mom is waiting for me to come home for the school holiday."

"That's nice. I'm also waiting for Ralph to come home, we're going to take a family holiday with a couple of our best friends and their children."

It felt like she skipped a beat, she definitely knows where she was going. Ralph had told her already, but she was not ready when her mom told her the cold hard truth.

Mrs. Richardson paused before she continued with her words.

"I know you and my son have been the best of friends for years and you've been there for him when he needed you the most."

She was biting her lip, hated the fact that his mom still refers to their situation as a best friend while Ralph had clearly stated that they were dating when they last met at Mable's birthday party.

"...but, he's meant to reach higher."

It was like she was being cut off from Ralph's life completely. His mom has never been mean to her. Yet, she always has her way of manipulating her words and made her feel welcome in his family in front of Ralph or his brothers. "...Madison, you're the sweetest friend he could ever have."

But from an early age, she had known that she could never blend with his kind of people. That was why she always stands in the background and refused every time Ralph or his brothers invited her for dinner or any kind of formal occasion that they'd held every couple of times a year.

"....I hope you understand where I'm going with this?" his mom smiled sweetly at her.

"Yes, but I don't think Ralph would."

Madison was telling the truth, she knows Ralph would be pissed off when he finds out that his mom had been talking to her and telling her to back down from his relationship with Ralph.

"Now, my dear Madison. I think you should rip that bandage off. Better do it now, rather than years later he disappointed you for having an affair with his kind of woman. Or, when one day you decided to leave him when the pressure of our society is getting to you?" "...trust me, my dear, you and my son...it won't last." She patted her hand and got up after leaving some money to settle their bill.

Madison could only watch as Mrs. Richardson walked casually out of the restaurant with her takeout bags. She looked back at Madison and nodded then was gone from her vision.

The young woman never felt so low in her entire life before, not even when her parents decided to let her know that they were getting a divorce.

That afternoon she decided to take a late afternoon run, trying to clear her mind. She was back sweaty and tired but her mind was clear, and she knows exactly what to do.

She was going to her dad's for the school holiday and distanced herself from Ralph. Maybe they needed a break, maybe she needs to know whether Ralph would relent to his mom's wishes or his love for her was truly undebatable. Though she was reluctant to give up easily to his mom's, but deep down she also wanted the best for Ralph.
