Man With Super Medical Skill (Matthew) -
Chapter 3107 The King's Wrath
In the palace, King Gawain I struggled to open his heavy eyes while lying in bed. He called out in a hoarse voice, "Someone, come."
A maid hurried into the room. She picked up Matthew's elixir from the table and placed it into King Gawain I's mouth.
Feeling warmth flooding his body, King Gawain I finally sensed some strength returning to him. He looked towards the maid standing before him. "Where is Queen Arabella? Why isn't she here today?"
"Your Majesty, Princess Consort has not yet arrived today," the maid replied respectfully.
King Gawain I nodded, gesturing to the maid to leave, but the door was pushed open again.
Arabella, dressed in a magnificent gown, entered carrying a bowl of fragrant seafood porridge.
"Your Majesty, I know you've been unwell, with a poor appetite. I specially stewed seafood porridge for you. Please have a taste," Arabella said gently.
King Gawain I looked at Arabella's innocent smile and the ashes on her magnificent gown, feeling a pang of heartbreak as he hugged her.
"You silly girl, these tasks should be left to the servants. Look at what you've done to yourself," King Gawain I scolded gently, noticing the state of her gown. Arabella grinned and said, "As long as you like it, I could even go into the lion's den, let alone a little dust."
King Gawain I affectionately rubbed Arabella's nose. Then, he took a sip of the seafood porridge she handed him.
The smooth minced shrimp, combined with tender and chewy sea cucumber, offered a faint medicinal aroma. King Gawain I's appetite was slightly aroused. "Young lady, is there anything interesting happening in Everton lately?" asked King Gawain I.
Long ago, Arabella used to share a daily tidbit about Everton's happenings with King Gawain I every day, and the King enjoyed hearing about the affairs of his subjects. "Your Majesty, there aren't any amusing stories today, but there has been an incident," Arabella replied.
She pretended to be troubled, her innocent expression piquing King Gawain I's curiosity.
"Oh? Then, Arabella, please share it with me," King Gawain I urged.
"I'm not going to spill so easily. Your Majesty, unless you offer something in return, I won't speak," Arabella teased playfully.
At the sight of Arabella's silly appearance, King Gawain I chuckled heartily and directly pinched her waist a couple of times, prompting her to exclaim, "Your Majesty, you're sneaky!"
As King Gawain I looked at his hand, which was devoid of strength after a few pinches on her waist, a hint of loneliness flashing in his eyes.
For some reason, he felt the efficacy of the elixir was diminishing over time. From initially feeling lively and vigorous after consuming it to now barely being able to stand, it was a world of difference from before.
"In the city, there was an old man who had been frail for years. One day, a physician arrived in the city. After seeing the old man's condition, he generously offered him some medicine for free."
"After taking the medication, the old
man felt comfortable throughout his body and appeared much younger. However he later discovered that the efficacy of the medication was diminishing with each dose. As he didn't want to return to his previous state, he sought out the physician again."
"At the sight of the old man's arrival as if he had expected it, the physician demanded an exorbitant fee for the medicine. Since experiencing that feeling, the old mam no longer wanted to return to his previous state. Therefore, he..."
Smack!
The sound of the jade bowl smashing on the ground echoed. The bowl instantly shattered into fragments. King Gawain I's face had been lively moments ago, now had his cheeks clouded with anger as if a storm was about to erupt at any
moment.
Arabella's seemingly unrelated words struck King Gawain I's heart deeply. He had already been suspicious of the diminishing efficacy of the medicine, he now harbored even greater doubts. Could that so-called Cathay Holy Doctor be intentionally causing this, leading me into doubt and confusion and thus seeking medicine from him again?
The thought of someone holding the lifeline of a sovereign was terrifying. King Gawain I, like a raging lion in its final moments, was determined to end the life of that Cathay Holy Doctor.
The overwhelming aura of imperial authority left Arabella pale, but her eyes betrayed a mix of excitement and urgency.
My plan has succeeded in its first phase. King Gawain I now harbor a deadly intent toward Matthew. In the presence of the sovereign, how could Matthew resist any longer?
