Married By Mistake -
Chapter 28
LUNA
“Huh?” I was dumbfounded.
“Oh? Why are you surprised? Isn’t that really what we agreed on?”
I swallowed several times to hold back the tears. “Are you going to break up with me?”
He looked at me and took a deep breath. I could read in his eyes that he didn’t like the word released. He averted his gaze. “Let’s go to sleep. You shouldn’t be awake.”
After he said that he left me and went upstairs first. The next day I immediately went to Camille to empathize and vent my resentment. Because I will explode if I continue to harbour it.
“Luna, please, stop crying. I’ll be bad with your baby.” Camille’s soothing voice.
“He decides so quick Camille. Why is that? After all, I’ve done for him.” I said as I wipe my eyes using tissue.
“Why doesn’t it seem like I’m a loss in his life? he says she loves me so much. Is he just lying?”
Camille caressed my back. I wiped my eye with a tissue because my tears would not stop.
“Dylan loves you, Luna. I can see that. He’s not thinking so he can’t hear you yet. Show him the ultrasound result.” Camille’s suggestion.
I shook. “If he trusts me, why does he need proof that it’s his? It’s just so painful, Camille. He should have to trust me.”
“Luna ..”
“And if he loved me, he wouldn’t mind that f*****g annulment!” I said between sobs. “I thought everything was enough, but it wasn’t enough.”
I felt bad so Camille gave me rest before taking me home. I felt heavy again when I saw Dylan in the living room. He was talking to a familiar woman. This is the lawyer that arranging Dylan’s inheritance. My chest throbbed as they looked at me.
“Mrs Reyes, it’s been so long.” The lawyer said when he saw me entering the house. “Please, have a seat.”
I was nervous to sit next to Dylan. His expression was blank.
“What do you need, Attorney?” I stabilized my voice.
“Ah, I’ll take care of your annulment papers.” I couldn’t reciprocate the lawyer’s nice smile.
I was surprised by what the lawyer said and shifted my gaze to Dylan. His face was serious as his arm rested on the armrest of the sofa. I looked at the lawyer as he placed the folder in front of me. “Those are the annulment papers. Dylan already has that signature, all you need is your signature.”
My eyes blurred when I saw that Dylan had already signed there. I didn’t have the strength to hold the ballpen provided by the lawyer. I just stared at the annulment papers I was holding.
The lawyer cleared his throat. “Ahm, I think you should talk first. I’ll just leave the annulment papers.”
Dylan led the lawyer out of the house. When the door closed I stood up and approached him. I clenched my fist to calm myself. “That’s how easy it is for you, Dylan?”
“What’s the purpose of this marriage? I’m just getting my inheritance, right?” He says coldly.
Even though I was weak, I still tried to stand up. The two of us were only a meter away.
“I thought you loved me.”
His expression cooled. “I thought so too.”
I closed my eyes firmly before I looked at him again. “You’re lying.”
“Am I?”
“Why is it so easy for you to drive me away like that? As for me, I’m ready to kill someone just so they don’t take you away from me.” I lightly punched his chest. Why do we have to be like this?
“Stop the drama, Luna. Just sign these damn papers!” I pulled away from him as his voice rose.
“No. I can’t.” I laughed heartily. I wiped the swollen tears that were falling down my cheeks. “You’re merciless, Dylan. I love you with all my heart. F**k you. How stupid of me to think I’m the only flower in your garden.”
Disgusted he threw the paper into a corner. He turned his back on me and walked towards our room. I was startled when he closed the door loudly.
I faintly picked up the papers. My hands trembled as I held the papers that would separate me from Dylan.
“I don’t want to,” I said finally.
I grew up without a whole family and my father hurt me. My son will also grow up that his father will not accept him.
“This is for your safety, Baby,” I whispered as I caressed my stomach. I picked up the annulment papers and signed them.
I dropped the paper on the table and picked up my bag. I took out the result of my previous ultrasound and pasted it in the annulment papers folder.
“I hope you don’t regret your decision. This will be your eye-opener, Dylan. It’s your time to chase and beg to bring us back to you.” I said to myself.
I entered the room. I saw Dylan lying on the bed, with his back to me. I knew he was just pretending to be asleep and he was just calming himself down so I wouldn’t get hurt. He loved me but his anger swallowed him up. Intense anger.
I could feel the cold in the room because of the air conditioner. I slowly stepped closer to the bed. I laid the annulment papers on the bedside table. I turned around and knelt by his side. I memorized his gentle face. I took her hand and stroked her fingertip where the wedding ring was.
“I love you, D,” I murmured.
I stroked his hair and kissed her forehead. I closed my eyes and stared when I decided to walk away. I stroked his cheek before standing up. I slowly closed the bedroom door and went down the stairs. I grabbed my bag and left the house. I called Camille to come over.
“Hello?” I sobbed and could not speak. “Luna? What happened?”
“Get me out of here. P-Please.”
“I’ll be right there as fast as I can, okay?”
I feel like screaming. There’s only one thing I’m sure of, Dylan will never be happy if he continues to be selfish.
