Married On Paper To The Billionaire
Chapter 34: There’s A New Sheriff In Town!

"What the hell is going on here?" Kane demanded.

"What's it look like?" Serena retorted. "I'm here to stay, of course." "Stay where?"

"In Beaumont Mansion. I'm family now."

"Says who? Who let you in, by the way?"

"Everyone here knows me, so, why wouldn't they let me in?"

"Well, congratulations. You've just cost them their jobs because I'm firing everyone who permitted you to walk through those gates and come here to knock on the front door."

"That's their luck," she replied with a shrug. "it's none of my business."

Kane had never despised anyone as much as he did Serena right now. Harry had come to fetch him as soon as he opened the front door and found her standing there with a big belly and six suitcases. It was barely a week after Jack's funeral, Emilia was still not talking to him and now this clown just showed up at their doorstep at the crack of dawn to cause trouble.

"Find someone to help her carry her bags outside," he said to Harry. "And inform them that she's never to be allowed into this premises ever again."

"I'm not going anywhere!" She screamed. "My child deserves a spot in her father's house!"

"Shut your mouth!" Kane hissed at her. "Are you trying to wake the entire household? Do you realize that we're still in mourning here?" "Well, I'm sorry about that but I think everyone should wake up and come here to give their opinion as well. I deserve to live here."

"Don't make me throw you out. Respect yourself and leave right now."

"Stop trying to get rid of me, Kane. You are the father of my child, so act like it!"

"What on earth is going on here?" Elsie asked, coming outside. She was dressed in a silk robe and her hair was stylishly tied with a matching silk scarf.

"Good morning, Grandmother," Serena greeted her cheerfully and curtsied.

"Please, stop with the dramatics. What do you want? Why are you here?"

"Thank you for asking, ma'am. I brought my things here to move into this house which belongs to the father of my child."

Elsie disliked the girl even more than she did before but she knew she had to handle this situation with diplomacy.

"Shouldn't you have waited to be invited first?" She asked Serena.

"I would have liked to wait but my lease has expired and I have nowhere else to go."

"Don't have any family or friends?" Kane asked her.

"No, I don't," she replied tartly. "I'm an orphan and I keep to myself. I have no one to run to."

"I'm not surprised. Nobody wants to be friends with a poisonous snake."

"Kane, please stop," his mother said calmly. "As for you, Serena, there are proper ways to do things and this isn't it."

"Is there a family meeting going on here?" Lillian asked, coming outside with Samuel. They looked as if they'd just rolled out of bed. "Serena? What are you doing here? Whose bags are these?" "They're mine. I'm here to stay."

"What!"

"Don't worry, I was just getting rid of her before Mother showed up," said Kane.

"I'm not going anywhere. My child is a Beaumont and she deserves to live in her father's house too."

"There's no proof that the child belongs to my brother," Lillian told her coldly.

"Then let's have a DNA test to solve the mystery once and for all," said Serena confidently.

"You don't mind harming your baby just to prove yourself right?" Samuel asked her.

"They're the ones who want evidence and I'm ready to give it to them!"

"Will you please, stop screaming?" Said Elsie irritably.

"I'm frustrated. I can't believe I'm being interrogated out here on a cold morning like a common criminal."

"You are a common criminal," said Kane. "For the last time, turn around and leave. The housekeepers will help you with your bags."

She sat on one of her bags and began to cry. She held onto her big belly and wept profusely.

Kane knew it was an act and he wasn't moved by it. Lillian rolled her eyes while Samuel struggled not to laugh.

Elsie was also irritated but a part of her felt sorry for the annoying Serena. She placed a gentle hand on Kane's arm and when he looked at her, she mouthed the word, 'please.'

He shook his head but she tugged at his arm until he bent down to listen to what she wanted to say.

"Only for today,” she whispered in his ear.

"No, Mother. If we let her in, she'll never leave. Let's not forget there's Emilia to consider as well. She'd never forgive me if I permit this." "I'll talk to her, I promise."

He sighed. "Fine. You can come inside," he said to Serena.

Lillian was stunned. "What?"

"She will leave after she's had breakfast," he explained. "her bags will remain unpacked."

Serena stopped crying immediately and wiped her tears away. "Thank you," she said.

"One more thing," said Elsie. "We will conduct the DNA test you've been raving about. It will be carried out today at a clinic of our choice." "Agreed," Serena said quickly.

"If the test comes back negative, you will leave our home immediately and never come close to us or attempt to smear our reputation." "And if the result comes back positive?"

"Don't count your chicks until they're hatched, Serena. Come inside."

"Thank you!"

"I can't believe this," Lillian muttered.

Kane couldn't believe it too but there was nothing he could do. He'd dropped the ball and Serena was taking full advantage of it.

He went inside and headed straight for the stairs. He needed to find Emilia and break the terrible news to her by himself.

"So what happens next? If the DNA result comes back positive, she'll be allowed to stay and become a part of the family?" Emilia asked angrily.

"It will not be positive," said Kane.

"Is that a fact?"

"I will not live under the same roof with my daughter's kidnapper. I don't care if she has everyone's balls in her hands, I won't allow it!" "We'll find a way around it."

"No! Get rid of her. Buy her a house or whatever, but she must not live here with us. It's bad enough that she's a constant reminder of your infidelity and let's not mention Tiara's absence."

"I understand how you feel, Emilia. I promise you, once the DNA comes back, it will be easier to kick her out."

"And until then?"

"I'll make sure she stays out of your way. She won't be allowed to come upstairs."

Emilia was momentarily placated. She had breakfast in her suite with Travis. By noon, Lillian informed her that a doctor had been called on from a reputable clinic to perform the DNA testing on Serena and Kane. "Let's hope the result comes back negative. I'll be the first to throw that wretch outside belly-first," said Lillian and Emilia laughed.

When it was lunchtime, Kane asked to join her but she refused. She wasn't going to share the same breathing space with him until she was certain that Serena would be kicked out of the mansion tonight.

By dinner time, the clinic sent the result to them by courier. Everyone except Emilia was sitting at the dining table, waiting with bated breath to hear the result of the DNA test. "Well, open it," said Serena confidently.

Kane glared at her but did as she asked. He ripped the envelope open and pulled out the folded piece of paper. As he read the content, his face turned white. "Told ya!" Serena said with a smug cackle.

Elsie snatched the paper from Kane's hand to read the content. "99.9 percent accurate," she read.

"Fuck!" said Samuel.

Elsie was too shocked by the result to reprimand him for the foul language. She put the paper down and looked at Serena.

"Well, we've got ourselves in a pickle, haven't we?" She said.

"Is everyone satisfied now?" Serena asked cheekily. "Can I move into the mansion now?"

"Not so fast!" Lillian snapped. "You don't have to live here. This isn't a homeless shelter."

"Lillian is right," said Kane. "I will get you an apartment where you'll stay until the child is born."

"No. I will stay here. I deserve to stay here!"

"You don't call the shots, Serena. You'll either live in the apartment I get for you or go back to being homeless!"

"Let's all calm down, please. And Serena, nobody likes a smart mouth, so keep your wisecracks to yourself. They're annoying." "Sorry. Can we get back to the living arrangements now?"

"It's already resolved," said Kane firmly. "I'll get you an apartment tonight and that's where you'll live from now on."

"Kane, dear, may I speak with you privately?"

"Of course, Mother."

They excused themselves from the dining table and went into the kitchen. Everyone there was dismissed immediately to give mother and son some privacy. "What is it, Mother? Please, don't tell me that you want that idiot to live here with us."

"That idiot, as you call her, is carrying a Beaumont baby."

"So, I think it is dangerous to send her out and leave her to her own devices. You've seen what she's like, vindictive and petty. There's no telling what she'll do once she steps out of this house." "So, what are you suggesting? That we let her stay here?"

"Only so that we can keep a close eye on her and control the narrative."

"That is absolutely out of the question, Mother. She has to leave. She and Emilia cannot live under the same roof."

"Emilia will be fine."

"No. You're asking too much from her. This is way too much. Serena has to leave."

"Listen, we could use this to our advantage. It was unfortunate that we couldn't prevent Jack's death, but this might be a way to clean up his image after all."

Kane stared at his mother as if he'd never seen her before. "Wait, are you suggesting - “

"Yes. Serena wants to be a Beaumont so badly, so why don't we use that to our advantage?"

****

Emilia thought she was dreaming when she stepped out of her room and saw Serena waddling up the stairs with her huge baby bump.

"Oh, hi there, sister-wife!" She greeted Emilia cheerfully. "I was wondering when we'd finally run into each other."

"What are you doing here?"

"Didn't you get the memo? I now live here."

Emilia gasped. "That's impossible!"

Serena laughed. "Oh, dear sweet Emilia. Impossible does not exist in my dictionary. We're roomies now. Or should I say, flatmates?" "Where's Kane?"

"I don't know. Do I look like his PA? I don't do peasantry anymore. I'm a billionaire's baby mama now."

Emilia had never hated anyone before, but she wasn't ashamed to admit to herself that she hated Serena so much right now.

"You better get used to having me around, Emilia, because this little girl I'm carrying in my womb is going to replace the one you lost."

And that was it. Emilia lost her temper and lashed out at Serena, striking her on the cheek with her open palm.

Serena staggered backwards and screamed as if she'd been stabbed. Suddenly, doors began to open and footsteps sounded on the stairs as everyone showed up to investigate the noise. Once Serena noticed the audience, she began to wail dramatically and clutch her cheek which was turning red from the hard slap.

"What's going on?" Elsie asked. "What is it, Serena?"

"She slapped me!" She wailed while pointing at Emilia. "I just stopped by to say hello to her and she slapped me."

"Is that true?" Kane asked Emilia.

"Yes, I slapped her but she said more than hello. How come nobody told me that she'll be living here now?"

Elsie sighed. "Listen, Emilia, I know this isn't an ideal situation but you can't go about slapping people."

"I apologize for not informing you sooner, but this isn't the best way to react," said Kane. He sounded disappointed. "Please, don't let this happen again."
