Married On Paper To The Billionaire
Chapter 45: I Love You

"Serena is desperate to speak with you," said 'Lupe. Her eyes shone with unshed tears but Kane wasn't moved.

"I hope you are aware that both of you have overstayed your welcome in this house," he said curtly. "Whatever needed to be said between me and Serena has been said already."

"Please, Mr Beaumont, hear her out. She's been in a very terrible place since..."

"I offered to pay for her to see a therapist but she refused. I even offered to buy her a house and she turned that down too. I have been more than generous to her already and I'm not making any more offers to her." "I know your relationship started on the wrong foot but - "

"Relationship? Serena and I don't have any relationship. What are you talking about?"

"I meant - "

"You know what, it's ok. I'll go talk with her. Where's she?"

'Lupe heaved a sigh of relief. "In her room."

He marched stiffly upstairs, stewing the whole time. He'd had a busy day at work and all he wanted to do was go to his suite and rest.

Despite all his effort to get rid of Serena, she'd refused to be discarded. His mother had begged him to let her stay for a couple of weeks until she recovered from her traumatic birthing experience.

Now one month later, she and her meddling mother had become a thorn in his flesh. It was time for him to finally put his foot down and kick her out of the mansion.

She opened the door as soon as he knocked as if she'd been waiting for that moment.

"You're here!" She gasped excitedly.

"You summoned me, didn't you? 'Lupe waylaid me on my way upstairs. What do you want?"

"Why don't you have a seat first?"

"Why don't you just get to the point and let me leave?"

His harsh tone dulled her excitement a little but she was not discouraged. She adjusted her chiffon dressing robe and linked her fingers in front of her like a good girl.

"I know we've said a lot of terrible to each other in the last five weeks since... since I lost our baby."

"You didn't lose the baby, she died."

"Yes, that's what I meant."

"So?"

"I don't want you to think that I'm being a pest, I'm just doing my best to redeem my image before you and prove to you and everyone else that I am good enough for you."

"Serena, I don't want you to be good enough for me, I want you to leave me and my family alone. I have been very understanding, very forgiving. Not many people will let you walk about freely after everything you did to me and Emilia."

"I have begged you a million times to forgive me but I won't stop begging. I am deeply sorry for doing that. It was very cruel of me. Please, forgive me."

She sank to her knees, clasping her hands in front of her as if she was praying.

"Stand up, Serena. You don't have to kneel."

"I have to. I need you to see just how remorseful I am."

"Fine, I've forgiven you. Get up."

She remained where she was but then tears began to run down her face. "What do I have to do to win your heart?"

"Leave my house. If I miss you, I'll send for you to return."

"No, you're just trying to get rid of me."

He shrugged.

"I love you, Kane Beaumont. Please, don't discard me."

"I am still married to Emilia and I love her."

"But she doesn't love you. She has moved on with another man. She's an adulterous woman and she doesn't deserve you. Divorce her and marry me, please!"

Kane sighed. "This conversation isn't leading anywhere. Listen, I've had a hectic day and I just want to rest. I honestly don't want to force you out of here but I just might do that if you don't leave willingly."

She remained on her knees and wept profusely. Kane simply turned around and left. He would give her one more week to pack her things and leave the mansion but if she doesn't, he'd have to involve the police. He was tired of dealing with her.

"I miss you."

"Aw, that's sweet."

"You're supposed to say, 'I miss you too'."

"Oh, right. I miss you too."

Matt sighed. "Why do I feel as if we're drifting apart?"

"Don't be dramatic," Emilia laughed. We're literally looking at each other right now. We wouldn't be if we were drifting apart."

"A video call isn't the same thing as being in the same place together."

"Well, it will suffice for now."

"I want to be with you, Emilia. Every minute I spend away from you is deeply agonizing for me.'

"

She smiled but internally she was mortified. Perhaps she'd let this 'situationship' fester for too long. She should've ended this fling a long time ago but now, Matt was convinced that he was in love with her. That was never part of the deal. Ever since he returned to Wyoming, he'd been wearing her down with multiple phone calls and video calls every day. She didn't have the heart to tell him to pipe it down because she didn't want to hurt his feelings. It has been such an exasperating experience.

"Aren't you going to say anything?" He asked in a whiny tone that grated on her nerves.

"Oh, dear. I think I just heard a crash in the children's room!" Emilia exclaimed and hopped to her feet. "I'll be right back."

She hurried to the children's room just for show. As she'd expected, the twins were napping while their nanny was busy folding their newly washed laundry.

"Well done, Isabella," Emilia greeted the middle-aged nanny.

"Thank you, ma'am," Isabella replied with a warm smile.

Emilia returned to the dining room where she'd been having the video call with Matt and to her annoyance, his face was still on the screen. She'd hoped that he would at least end the call but no, he was patiently waiting for her to return. "Rats!" She muttered and went back to her seat.

"What happened?"

"Oh, I think the nanny accidentally dropped something but everything is fine. The twins are still asleep."

"Great."

"Yeah."

"So... what's up?"

"Well, I applied for the position of a volunteer tutor in a community center for underprivileged children and they said they'd get back to me next week."

"I wasn't asking about that, I was asking about us."

"Us?"

"I love you, Emilia. I'm tired of this long-distance relationship we're having. I want us to make this official."

"Aren't you forgetting something?"

"What?"

"I'm still married."

"But you're going to divorce him, aren't you?"

"That's not going to be easy, Matt. You heard what he said the other day. He's going to fight me for the kids and I'm not sure I'm ready to go through that right now. Tiara needs to recover fully first." "What are you saying?"

"Give me some time to straighten things out with Kane and then we can talk about making our relationship official. Whatever that means..."

"How long do you want me to wait?"

"Honestly, I don't know."

He sighed with disappointment. "Ok."

"I'm sorry."

"Please, don't be. I've got to go anyway. My lunch break ended ten minutes ago."

"Ok. Take care then."

After the call, she sighed with relief. She would have to eventually put her big girl pants on and end this torture. Matt was a sweet soul but he was also an emotional leech and she was tired of indulging him. Meanwhile, she and Kane had hardly spoken since that day he punched Matt in the belly. He only called to speak with his children and he'd been over to visit them twice since then.

He'd asked her to bring them to the mansion but she refused to do so as long as Serena still lived there. Once bitten, twice shy.

"What's your plan for the twins' birthday?" Chloe asked expectantly. "Will there be a party?"

"I don't think so," said Emilia. "I'm not sure Tiara is ready for that just yet."

"It's just going to be us there. We don't need to invite anyone else."

"What about the Beaumonts?" Their mother asked. "We can't exclude them."

"The Beaumonts can kiss my behind!"

"Chloe! There are toddlers here," Emilia laughed.

"That's why I said behind instead of the A-word. Besides, they're too busy with their Grandpa to overhear our conversation."

The three women looked over to where Andrew was playing with the twins in the family room. He was happily rolling on the floor with them as they played with different colorful toys. Emilia had brought the kids to her family's home for the weekend. It was their first visit to the Taylor household since Tiara's return.

"So, back to the birthday," said Chloe. "Are you going to invite Matt?" "Oh, please!" Lara snorted.

She shrugged. "I don't know what you see in him. If you're going to cheat on your husband, why not do it with someone just as wealthy as him or more?"

"Preach, Momma!" Chloe laughed.

"Mom, please. First of all, Kane cheated on me first, and second, Matt is a great guy. He may not be rich but he's very sensitive."

"I'm sure he is," Lara hissed. "It takes a high level of sensitivity to latch onto a rich woman like you."

"What are you insinuating, Mom? That Matt is with me just for money?"

"What else?"

"He's in love with me."

"Is that so? And are you in love with him too?"

"No," Emilia replied sincerely without hesitation.

"Then why are you keeping him around?" Chloe asked.

"Because I don't want to hurt his feelings. He ended his engagement to Molly because of me."

"So? You don't owe him your life," said Lara. "it's not like you forced him to break up with her. It was his choice."

"Well... he wants me to go ahead with my divorce."

"So that he can swoop in and marry you and become the husband of a billionaire's ex-wife."

"Come on, Mom!"

"I know you always see the best in people, Emilia, but this thing you have going on with Matt needs to stop. He's not right for you and I can tell that you're tired of him. End it."

"I can help do it," Chloe offered gleefully. "It's only going to take one phone call."

"No, thanks. I'll do it myself when I'm ready to."

"And Kane?" Her mother asked.

"What about him?"

"Do you truly want to go ahead with the divorce?"

Emilia sighed. "Well... yes. He has left me no choice."

"What do you mean?"

"Serena still lives in the mansion with him and his family. I had thought that after her baby's death, their relationship would end but that hasn't been the case. It seems to be waxing stronger." "But you're still his wife and you have the upper hand," Lara insisted.

"I don't care about any of that anymore. I'm happy where I am."

"Are you? Have you considered how this might be affecting your children?"

"What would you have me do, Mom? Barge into the mansion with my children while that vile woman and her hateful mother still live there?"

"You can give Kane an ultimatum to kick them out."

"I won't do that. I'm not going to force him to make me and our children a priority in his life. If he wants us back, he knows what to do. Until then, I'm staying away from him and that mansion." "And on that note, I say we have the birthday party here," said Chloe. "Trust me, it's going to be low key but super lit. What do you say?"
