Married On Paper To The Billionaire -
Chapter 48: Home Sweet Home?
"Can we just put everything behind us, please? Let's just move forward and leave the past in the past."
"Of course, Mother," Emilia said to Elsie with a stiff smile. She didn't want to say what was truly on her mind in the presence of her children. "Welcome home," Lillian greeted her extra warmly.
Emilia gave her a frosty look and ignored her greeting. Samuel was wise enough not to say anything to her but simply nodded curtly in her direction.
"Hi, Crystabel. How are you?" She greeted the Adams' daughter who was standing quietly beside her nanny and watching the twins intently.
"Say hi, Crystabel," Nanny said softly but the girl wouldn't speak. Instead, she smiled at Travis before turning her face away.
"We should start planning the children's birthday right away," said Elsie excitedly. "It's only a few days away."
"Let's deal with that later, ok?" Emilia said dismissively. She wasn't in the mood to chit-chat with the same people that sold her out as if everything was suddenly honky-dory.
She shepherded her children upstairs to their bedroom which has been redecorated and repainted. Isabella's room was right beside it and she was pleased with the size and furnishing. When she stepped out of the room, she came face-to-face with Serena.
"Jesus Christ! What are you doing here?" Emilia screamed.
"No need to freak out, Mrs Beaumont," she said saucily. "I earned myself a few nights' stays in exchange for helping Kane get rid of your boy toy."
"What?"
"Why are you still here, Serena?" Kane asked, coming to join them in the upstairs corridor where the exchange was going on.
"You told me she'd left!" Emilia growled at him.
"I thought she'd be gone before you got here. That was the agreement, wasn't it, Serena?" He asked her coldly.
"I'm leaving tonight," said Serena. "Excuse me."
After Serena returned to her room, Emilia turned to face Kane. "Is there something else I should know about this situation? Why is it impossible for you to get rid of her? What's your deal with her?" "Please, calm down, Emilia. She's leaving tonight, I promise. Come on, let's go to our suite."
"Our suite? I'm not sharing a room with you!" "Emilia - "
"No! I'll stay In a guest room."
"Don't do that, please."
"You know what, I'll stay in my children's room until that demon finally leaves this house. I am not leaving my children's safety to chance anymore."
"They're safe."
"Kindly send one bodyguard upstairs, or maybe two."
He sighed and walked away. Emilia instructed the maids to bring her bags to the children's room and that was where she showered and changed into her pyjamas.
A mattress was brought from one of the guest rooms into the children's room for her. As she was beginning to fall asleep, she heard screams.
"What on earth is that noise?" She groaned when Isabella ran into the room to check on the twins who were sleeping through the noise.
"What's going on?" She asked.
"I have no idea, Isabella. Please, stay here with the children. I'll go and see what's happening out there."
When she stepped out, she found the door to Serena's room open and panicked voices were talking inside. Emilia rolled her eyes, convinced that her rival was just looking for attention again. "Call 911!" Elsie screamed from inside and Lillian ran outside, looking terrified.
"What's going on?" Emilia asked curiously.
"She tried to kill herself," she said and hurried away to find a phone.
Kane ran out of Serna's room covered in blood. He was followed by Samuel who was carrying an unconscious Serena. She was soaking wet and bloody.
"What the hell?" Emilia gasped.
"Are you happy now?" 'Lupe asked her angrily. "This is all your fault. You should never have come back here!"
"Now, hold your horses!" Elsie snapped at her. "Don't you dare speak to my daughter-in-law in that manner. I don't know what game you and your foster daughter are playing but you two have overstayed your welcome here." "You can't possibly throw us out now!" 'Lupe wailed. "Can't you see what Serena has done to herself? What else does she have to do to prove her love for your son?"
"You're just as demented as her," Elsie replied coldly. "Your rooms will be cleaned out tonight and your belongings moved out of this house. Let us know where to ship them to."

"Come on, Emilia. Let's go and stay with the children while the others sort out this mess."
Emilia quietly followed her mother-in-law to the children's bedroom. When she turned back to look at 'Lupe, she saw that the other woman was watching her with undiluted malice.

"A maid found her in her bathtub with slit wrists," said Lillian. "She would rather die than leave the mansion."
"She's a lunatic," said Elsie.
"Why did you let her stay here this long?" Emilia asked her. "Kane said it was your idea to let her recover here after her childbirth."
"It's true but I did that out of compassion. I felt sorry for her. I didn't realize that she was mentally disturbed."
Emilia sighed and sipped her hot tea. The three women were sitting at the dining table, drinking tea and waiting for some feedback from Kane and Samuel who were still at the hospital with Serena and 'Lupe. It was a few minutes past midnight and the rest of the house was quiet.
"If she survives this stunt, I'll see to it that she's committed to a mental care hospital," said Elsie firmly. "That would be my parting gift to her."
"I support that," said Lillian. "and I'd like to officially apologize for bringing her to this house. Going forward, anyone I work with will no longer have access to our home." "That's good to hear," said Elsie.
"I'm going back to bed," Emilia said, pushing her teacup away.
"Hold on, Emilia," said Elsie, placing a hand on hers. "We all owe you an apology for letting you down again."
Emilia shrugged. "I have accepted my fate as the scapegoat of this family."
"Please, don't say that. I am always looking out for our best interest as a family but it appears that I keep getting it wrong."
"And that's because you still don't consider me to be a part of this family. I will always be the stranger no matter how long I stay married to your son."
"Seriously, Emilia. My mother is just trying to apologize here!"
"I didn't ask for an apology, did I?"

"We? The only person making an effort here is your mother."
"What do you want me to do then? Get on my knees and beg you for forgiveness? What's done is done. Let's move on."
"I wonder if you'd feel that way if it was Crystabel who got kidnapped by your efficient PA."
That silenced Lillian and she blushed with embarrassment. Emilia got to her feet and kissed Elsie lightly on the forehead. "We will discuss the twin's birthday plans in the morning," she said and left.
"She's going to rub this in our faces forever, won't she?" Asked Lillian.
"We were wrong, Lillian. We have ostracized her repeatedly even when she didn't deserve it."
"You make it sound as if she's a saint. Wasn't she also running around with a random guy in the countryside?"
"Was that worse than what your brother did?"
"What's your point, Mother?"
"Apologize to her tomorrow, Lillian. You owe that much."
"Me? I didn't do anything."
"That disgraceful interview isn't anything. I would be deeply insulted if I were her parent."
"Fine! I'll apologize. Can I breathe now?"
"Did you see how Crystabel smiled when she saw Travis? She remembered him as her play buddy."
Lillian smiled at the memory too. "That made me happy too. I was surprised that she recognized him."
"You see? Having Emilia and the children here is beneficial to us. Let's keep it that way, ok? It's time to treat her like one of us and protect her as we would protect a true Beaumont." "You have my word, Mother. She's officially in."
