Brielle glanced at Isaac, noticing his struggle with communication. He couldn't string together complete sentences and had a blurry grasp of the world around him. He was also extremely suspicious of people.

His eyes met Brielle's with a guarded caution.

A sense of discomfort settled over Brielle, though she couldn't quite figure out why.

Isaac probably knew, deep down, that he'd been found abandoned in a dumpster. This reality had been part of his earliest memories, making him wary of women. Plus, he was convinced Brielle had ulterior motives for getting close to his dad, which only heightened his wariness around her.

Brielle stood up and quietly left the bathroom.

King stayed seated, watching Isaac, who seemed to relax a bit. Not knowing what to say, King just reached out and gently pinched Isaac's cheek.

Telling Brielle now that Isaac was the child she had given birth to would seem like a fairy tale to her.

And if Isaac found out Brielle was his mom, he'd probably want to move out of the mansion ASAP to keep his distance.

The chasm between mother and son seemed impossible to bridge.

Isaac's personality was a lot like Brielle's-stubborn and reserved. With his communication issues, he kept everything bottled up, making him even more reluctant to talk.

He was like a hedgehog, curled up tight, only peeking out when King was around.

Sometimes, King wondered if he was being selfish, wanting to be Isaac's entire world and keeping him isolated. If Isaac left, King didn't know what he'd have left to live for.

After carrying the sleepy child out of the room, Isaac fell asleep on his shoulder, his chubby cheeks smushed against King's neck, lips slightly puckered.

King laid him on the bed and noticed Brielle standing by the window, looking out at the garden.

Noir, mimicking her, was also by the window, front paws up as if trying to get a better view.

The sight made King smile, but before he could say anything, his phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, he frowned and headed downstairs.

His driver took him to a castle he owned in North America. King had another fortress in Saudi Arabia, both heavily guarded and almost impossible for outsiders to enter.

Masked, he walked into the grand hall of the castle, the majestic atmosphere hitting him immediately.

The castle was enormous, built into the mountainside, and filled with bodyguards hidden in the shadows. Nearby was a facility he used for recruitment. "Sir."

A man who had been waiting knelt as King approached. They had the same build and voice, but the man's face was unmasked-it was Myles.

King walked past him and settled on a grand sofa in the middle of the room. The castle felt empty, with no servants around.

"Did you find anything?"

Myles, not daring to look King in the eye, kept his gaze on his shoes as he knelt.

"The organization is called 'The Order of Light,' founded by a group of exiles from decades ago. They're cunning, with connections

worldwide, and experts at

brainwashing."

A group of exiles, desperate enough to try and change the world?

King tilted his head, resting it on his hand.

It had to be more than just exile. They were probably globally wanted with nowhere to go, so they created their own kingdom and brainwashed a following.

Despite this, their influence had grown significantly over the years.

Ronald was one of their followers.

His actions alone had caused unrest

within the Dorsey family in Saudi Arabia, eventually leading to a coup within the royal family.

King never saw Ronald as a threat, having studied his tactics for so long. But the shadowy organization behind him was still largely a mystery to King.

His people had been investigating, sometimes crossing paths with Dustin's agents, suggesting that Dustin was just as alarmed by their findings.
