Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) -
Chapter 1093
Myles found himself pinned to the chair, his heart racing as he tried to process what was happening. The man leaning over him smirked, closing the distance between them. "It's sad, really," he said, his voice dripping with disdain. "Being someone else's shadow, losing your sense of self." Myles felt a wave of humiliation wash over him. He was supposed to be invincible; with that mask on, everyone obeyed him. He was used to calling the shots, but now, here was someone tearing down his façade without mercy. Everything he had, he owed to that mask. Without it, he was nothing.
"But I must admit," the man continued, "it's impressive how you've managed to stay disguised by that man's side for so long. Truly the top hypnotist."
Myles' skills in hypnotism were indeed unmatched in the world. He was so adept that he could even hypnotize himself, which made the truth all the more humiliating when came out.
"What do you want?" Myles demanded, his voice tinged with desperation.
The last time this man had appeared out of nowhere, he had mocked Myles, as if urging him to face reality. But even if he did, what then? He liked being the King's shadow; without that role, he wasn't sure what else he could do. "Your feelings for Brielle," the man said, "do they stem from a suggestion you placed on yourself, or do you truly like her?"
Myles didn't answer because he wasn't sure himself. He had blurred the lines between fiction and reality. He was the King, and the King loved Brielle, so did the shadow. He loved her so much that he wanted to cherish everything she used, not even sparing a cup. As if by doing so, he could prove he was a proper shadow.
"Work with me," the man offered, releasing Myles' neck. "I'll help you completely take his place."
A flicker of excitement crossed Myles' face, quickly replaced by disappointment.
"Didn't you hypnotize Brielle once?" the man continued. "You almost ended up killing that kid, but the King never doubted you. That means you have the potential to do more than just be someone's shadow. Are you really content with that?" Content?
The sound of a car door opening interrupted the tense silence. The man got out of the backseat and disappeared into the night, leaving Myles to ponder the proposition. Myles gripped the steering wheel tightly, his palms sweaty with anxiety. Meanwhile, in the grand mansion, the King sat unmoved on the couch as his phone rang. It was Joseph.
"Sir, we found the doctor who delivered Ms. Brielle's baby. Should I bring this person to the villa or the mansion?"
"The mansion."
The King waited, and half an hour later, Joseph arrived, accompanied by a trembling middle-aged female doctor. Her legs shook at the sight of the grand building. Joseph led her in, and seeing the King on the couch, took his place silently behind him.
"Sir," Joseph began, "she changed her name and fled to Africa, living under the radar. It was only recently that someone on a mission there caught wind of her."
24. 24
A gynecologist disappearing right after handling Brielle's delivery was suspicious. At the time, Brielle's actions of discarding the child had. enraged the King. He knew of her hatred and believed she was capable of such an act. Back Brielle would have used any means toretaliate against him. She had tried fasting and falling down stairs to lose the child. They were like beasts tearing at each other, and he had indeed been hurt by her.
The King didn't want to dwell on the childbirth, but recent interactions with Brielle, coupled with Max's subtle influence, made him suspect there was more to the story. Upon investigation, it turned out the doctor had vanished long ago. If the doctor hadn't done anything wrong, why disappear right after Brielle's
delivery?
Now, the doctor knelt before him, trembling and silent, unable to even beg for mercy. The King's patience was wearing thin when Joseph spoke up.
"Sir, her tongue was cut out, possibly voluntarily. I checked her past accounts; she received a transfer of ten million dollars, clearing her abusive husband's gambling debts and ensuring a good life for her and her child in Africa."
The woman bowed her head, shaking and sweating with fear. The King frowned, knowing that even without a tongue, she should be able to make some sounds, yet the doctor remained silent.
Just as the King was about to
request paper and pen, a thought struck him like lightning. He suspected a contraceptive coil. Narrowing his eyes, he pieced together the puzzle, his gaze filled with fury. This woman was clearly ready to face death, maintaining her silence until now. But what mattered more to the King was whether the child was actually discarded by Brielle. Did she personally throw it into the trash bin?
