Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) -
Chapter 1095
But he offhandedly tossed a knife to Joseph.
In that moment, Joseph struggled to grab the knife, cutting through the ropes binding his legs. He quickly threw on a shirt from beside the bed and trailed after him, step by step. King was a bit confused. Why was this guy following him? He wasn't into that kind of thing.
Before he could say anything, he watched as Joseph turned around and knelt down in silence. Like a loyal, devoted dog.
But King didn't need a dog. He trusted no one.
"Sir, my life is in your hands now."
This came from a nineteen-year-old, but King wasn't much older himself.
"My name's Joseph. I'm from the Sanchez family."
In North America, the famous casinos are run by the Sanchez family.
Anyone involved with casinos couldn't be good news.
But then, King wasn't exactly a saint himself, so he found the whole casino business quite intriguing.
A smirk crossed his face. He had an idea.
"What do you need from me to take down the Sanchez family?"
He saw a fire in this man's eyes, a fire of vengeance.
A tiny spark can start a great fire, and this blaze was ready to consume the Sanchez family.
Joseph had already seized control of the Sanchez family, just not publicly. The family was caught up in their internal squabbles, all of them losers in the end. Joseph had inherited King's mantle, enjoying the sight of these people fighting amongst themselves to no avail.
That's why Kailee had said, someone would step in to stop her.
In reality, the Sanchez family had long been Joseph's, and King's by extension, though no one knew it.
For a month, King had been in and out of consciousness, only ensuring Brielle was sent away before slipping into unconsciousness.
Joseph, not trusting anyone else with his care, entrusted King's safety to Myles, King's shadow.
Joseph was the fourth to enter the castle, after King, Brielle, and Isaac.
Now, as he kneeled by the awakening King, he sought forgiveness for entering without permission and living there for a month. King didn't blame him; instead, he had him deliver meals to Isaac.
This was the first time King really saw Joseph.
By then, Joseph had already taken down the Sanchez family, rarely returning to them, quietly working by King's side.
King was indeed in a state of despair, contrary to his distrustful nature. He shouldn't have kept this man by Isaac's side. If Joseph had run off with Isaac, threatening King, it would have nullified years of effort, perhaps even endangering Max.
But he didn't want to think about it, nor did he want to remember anything about Brielle.
After she left, he felt soulless, even more lifeless than before.
But over the years, Joseph managed everything perfectly, meeting all of King's demands.
Now, Joseph was stopping King, advising him not to use the knife, as it was pointless. King glanced at him. Joseph immediately lowered his head.
The female doctor had been trembling all along, silent even under the threat of the knife.
If, as Joseph said, she had cut out her tongue to prove loyalty, then the knife held no threat.
The pain of self-mutilation was the highest form of suffering.
She was lucky to be alive.
But letting her off just like that was out of the question.
King squinted, asking behind him.
"Joseph, who sent Brielle away?"
"Sir, I left that to Myles."
"Max found out Brielle had a contraceptive device implanted. Did you do that?"
Joseph kneeled suddenly, his expression calm, "I wouldn't dare."
"Then who would?"
Joseph remained silent, hesitating for a few seconds before saying sternly, "Myles." As King's shadow, Myles held significant power.
Before falling into a coma, King had entrusted this matter to Joseph. But, concerned for his and Isaac's safety, Joseph had passed it on to Myles.
Joseph brought King and the newborn back to the castle, where King remained unconscious foca month. By the time he woke up, Brielle was gone.
After that, King never sought out Brielle again.
He couldn't bear going through that pain once more.
Now, as Joseph suggested, the most likely culprit was Myles, the shadow King had personally trained.
What a pity, King had been quite satisfied with his shadow.
