Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) -
Chapter 1100
Once Joseph left, King finally realized that Brielle was fuming. Despite being trapped in his own web of painful memories, he was determined to lift her spirits. He remembered Dustin mentioning that Brielle adored diamond rings-the bigger, the better. His past gifts had missed the mark, but this time, he was sure he'd nail it. He tiptoed into the bedroom where Brielle was still asleep, her eyes rimmed with red from exhaustion. Her fair skin contrasted beautifully with her dark hair, making her look even more endearing. King gently measured each of her fingers, noting the sizes on his phone before heading out to the mall-a rare trip for him unless it was to pick clothes for Isaac. King personally selected every piece of Isaac's wardrobe, trusting no one else with the task.
Now, on a mission to buy rings for Brielle, King felt a sweet thrill of anticipation. The sales clerk, unfazed by the masked man-this was, after all, a place where people's quirks were their own business-listened as King laid out his request: "Ten diamond rings, in these sizes."
The clerk's eyes sparkled. "How big would you like the diamonds to be?"
"The bigger, the better," King replied without hesitation.
Eagerly, the clerk brought out the top ten most expensive rings, each one sporting impressively large gems. King glanced over them, satisfied that they'd meet Dustin's "bigger is better" criteria. He paid and left, clutching the rings as the clerk watched with envy, wondering who the lucky recipient might be.
Back in Brielle's room, King moved quietly, careful not to wake her. Her peaceful face was partly hidden by a cascade of hair. He laid out the rings, carefully fitting each one onto her fingers. Despite her fatigue, Brielle didn't stir. King hoped that when she woke, the sight of the rings would melt her anger. He settled into a nearby chair and waited.
Brielle's sleep was deep but short. She dreamt of calling out to Myles for help, though the details were fuzzy, leaving her with an odd sense of youthful naivety. The dream shifted to a hospital scene where her cries for help were lost in her own sobs, the content of her pleas indistinct. She woke feeling a strange heaviness in her fingers and noticed the sunset outside. Its beauty did nothing to lift her spirits as she looked down at the ten diamond rings weighing down her hands. Even the thought of using chopsticks felt daunting.
Taking a deep breath, she told
herself to stay calm-this was just King being King. When he saw she was awake, his lips curved into a hopeful smile.
"Brielle, do you like them?"
Brielle, who had experienced King's antics many times, found herself on the edge of laughter and frustration "These are the biggest rings in the
store, got your sizes right, and the egot
clerk said you won't find another set like this in all of North America," King boasted with a hint of pride.
In King's world, money was as weightless as air; spending nearly three hundred million on rings didn't faze him. His eagerness for her forgiveness was clear.
"I'm sorry for earlier. Can these rings make it up to you?"
Before he could react, Brielle had already pulled off several rings and hurled them at him.
"Get out."
King's smile wavered slightly, "Is it because the diamonds are too small?"
