Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) -
Chapter 1232
Joseph knocked on the door, balancing a tray of breakfast, figuring it was about time his boss might be up for some food.
Sure enough, King's stomach practically roared at the sight of the food. He picked up the bowl of chicken noodle soup, the steam curling up into the air, and gently spoon-fed Brielle. "Eat up, then we can take it slow with the explanations," he said, his voice soft and reassuring.
Brielle glanced at him, noticing the stark difference in his appearance. The once cocky smirk was gone, replaced by a gauntness that spoke of sleepless nights. The bruise on his cheek only added to his worn look, as if he had just come out of a battle. She frowned, managing to eat half the bowl.
King watched her, a warm look in his eyes. Once she pushed the bowl away, he slowly started on his own soup, taking his time with each spoonful.
Joseph, peeking through the hospital room's small window, sighed in relief at the absence of conflict.
Kailee, standing next to him, was still reeling from the news she received the night before.
"So, Brielle's the one who left King high and dry? Little Cricket is her kid?" she asked, still struggling to wrap her head around the revelation.
Joseph nodded, stepping back with a look of disdain.
"You don't need to distract the public eye anymore. Stay away from the boss."
Kailee felt discarded, her mood souring.
"Am I even your sister anymore? You used me, but did you ever consider I genuinely like King?"
"I did, but you're not good enough for him."
His words left Kailee speechless, stewing in her own thoughts before sneaking another glance through the small mirror. Despite her heartache, she couldn't deny the undeniable chemistry between King and Brielle, a stark contrast to King's usual icy demeanor. King, now without his mask, seemed more human, especially when looking at Brielle with such tender care.
Unable to watch any longer, Kailee stormed off, nursing her bruised heart.
Back in the room, Brielle sensed something amiss. King's temper, once volatile at any hint of betrayal, was now replaced by cautious indulgence, even as he was wounded.
She noticed him cleaning up, holding onto her hand as if afraid she'd vanish like smoke the moment he let go.
After Joseph cleared the tray, King opened the curtains, flooding the room with sunlight. Brielle squinted against the brightness, then found herself wrapped in a comforting embrace.
"Brielle, what do you remember?"
"You let Myles drown our child."
King froze, disbelief etched on his face.
"Who told you that?"
He reached for her hand, only to be shrugged off.
"Stop pretending. You never loved me."
Silence fell, the weight of her words hanging heavy in the air. Brielle,
intent on making him pay, found. nee
herself conflicted, her heart aching at his evident suffering.
"Are you talking about Isaac?"
Confusion clouded her eyes, leading King to realize her memory was not jumbled but missing pieces.
"Who's Isaac?"
Dustin arrived soon after, disbelief in his eyes at seeing Brielle.
"Little Yuna!"
She remained silent, further puzzled.
Dustin grabbed her shoulders. "Did
Myles do something to you? It's okay, he's gone now. Grandmother was early hospitalized from worry."
Brielle shifted her gaze away indifferently.
"And you are?"
