King squinted, glancing out the window.

Outside, there were barely any skyscrapers, even though they were in the heart of the city. I was still impoverished and underdeveloped, with streets full of potholes.

Not far off, plumes of smoke rose from burning trash. The city lacked a proper waste management system, so people burned their garbage, filling the air with thick smoke and making the air quality terrible.

But in a place where people struggled to meet basic needs, who cared about air quality?

Plus, a deadly disease loomed, making life constantly precarious.

Joseph voiced his concerns because he couldn't bear the thought of King being in any danger. Dream Tech Designs couldn't afford it, and neither could Seattle.

King's life was incredibly valuable.

Joseph knelt, silently bowing his head.

After a long pause, King finally spoke.

"This might be the last adventure Brielle and I have together, Joseph. You wouldn't understand; you've never cared for a woman. Every second I spend rushing towards her, I'm filled with a happiness that even transcends death." He placed his hand on Joseph's shoulder, giving it a reassuring pat.

"Also, your life is important too. Making it back alive, both of us-that's the perfect ending."

Joseph stood rigid, not daring to move.

The King he knew now was vastly different from before.

The old King was all about swift and decisive action. Anyone in his way wouldn't see another day.

He never cared for anyone's life, sometimes not even his own. His goal was to climb higher and higher.

He was cold, never enjoying what life had to offer.

But with Brielle, his emotions were like a rollercoaster.

He even learned to love. The words he just spoke were the best testament to that love.

Joseph couldn't grasp this feeling. After being saved by King, his life was all about obedience.

But it wasn't out of coercion.

Knowing King trusted no one, heet

his

was willing to entrust his life, even if it meant gaining just a trust.

no

Joseph always thought, as long as King stayed on top, that was enough.

But now, seeing King grounded among people, he felt it was pretty good too. "Sir, I understand."

They quickly got dressed, ready to follow the government's lead with ninety-eight others into the zone, accompanied by thirty-some trucks loaded with supplies.

Joseph decided to call his sister, Kailee, the only family he had in this world.

If he didn't make it back, his will, already left with his lawyer, would ensure Kailee never ran out of money, even if she spent wildly every day.

Kailee was busy instructing her servants to craft bowls, chopsticks, and purses out of jewels when she received the call.

Surrounded by shiny objects, her recent heartbreak seemed cured.

"Bro, what's up?"

"Kailee, what are you doing?"

Kailee tossed aside a jewel she was

holding. "Still heartbroken over my breakup. You said I wasn't good enough for King, and it's killing me, Lately, a few guys have been

chasing after me, but they're just as handsome. I doubt I'll find anyone better looking than King. Oh God, am I doomed to be alone forever? Damn, why is Brielle so lucky? I can't understand how she could have such a cute kid."

"Bro, it even feels like the kid chose her side over me. It hurts thinking about it. So, have you seen King? How's he been? Does he miss me?" Joseph chuckled softly, "That last question was unnecessary."

Kailee's face turned awkward.
