Max's patience was wearing thin as he stared down at Victoria. "The key. Don't make me ask again."

Victoria almost laughed at Max's audacity. What made him think he could boss her around? He was a nobody now! But before she could snap back, a group of bodyguards stormed in, pinning her to the ground and starting a search. Everett stood by, silent, his eyes locked intensely on Max.

The CEO of Blue Nebula Enterprises had started to protest but, seeing the well-trained bodyguards, forced a fake smile. "Max, aren't you worried I'll make you pay once I leave? This toy was hard to find, and I must admit, I quite like her. She's young and, as Miss Howell said, pretty tough."

Tiffanie shivered on the floor, hugging her knees, not daring to meet anyone's eyes, staring blankly at her feet.

Her shoes were long gone. Upon arrival, the CEO had insisted on inspecting her, stripping her bare in front of Victoria and Everett.

Tiffanie knew she should have fought back, but she also knew it was pointless unless she was willing to give up her tainted flesh and blood. If fighting back ever worked, she wouldn't have endured this hell for so long.

She should never have been born, always tainted, so it didn't matter how she was treated. Yet, when the chain wrapped around her neck, a rare flicker of dignity surfaced.

She was human, after all. Why did they treat her like a dog?

Help.

She wanted to escape, anyone could do, just get her out of this filthy cage.

Maxie... Mason...

Max's arrival had sparked a second of hope, quickly followed by crushing embarrassment. He had seen her like this.

Seen by the distinguished, aloof, icy Max.

Tiffanie wished she could bury her head in the ground, but the cold metal on her neck reminded her she couldn't escape; she had to face this.

The CEO was right; she was resilient, toughened by beatings from a young age. Even with one breath left, she could heal and bounce back. Her body, conditioned from childhood, perfectly fit the CEO's twisted tastes. As he said, she could be "played with" for a long time.

Tiffanie kept her head down, too afraid to look at Max.

But after the CEO's vile remark, the bodyguards had flipped him over, a swift chop knocking him out cold.

Victoria, seeing Max's decisive action, trembled in fear. "Max, are you insane? That's the CEO of Blue Nebula Enterprises! When he wakes up, he'll come after you!" Pinned to the floor, her keys fell from her bag.

Ignoring Victoria, the bodyguards handed the keys to Max.

Instead of unlocking Tiffanie himself, Max tossed the keys, landing them right by her feet.

Tiffanie's toes curled, and she remained motionless, head bowed.

"Unlock yourself," Max said coldly, not looking at her.

Tiffanie was still bewildered, unsure how she had ended up calling Maxie in her muddled state. Hadn't she grown used to her miserable life? She was like mud, beyond caring how she was trampled. But why had she called Maxie?

Staring at the key before her, she couldn't believe that deep down, she had hoped for a savior. "Tiffanie, unlock yourself," Max urged, not wanting to waste more time here.

Had Tiffanie's voice not been tinged with sobbing and frantic despair, he wouldn't have bothered to come. He knew all too well how the Wall Street tycoons tamed their pets, crushing their pride and dignity until they followed their masters, spineless and obedient.

He had always watched such practices with detachment, never imagining that Tiffanie would one day be subjected to such treatment. And Tiffanie, it seemed, was on the brink of being broken.
