Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) -
Chapter 973
"Sure thing."
The guy who got the order hustled over to Brielle, helping her to her feet. She was blindfolded, totally clueless about where she was being taken. It wasn't until she entered a new room and felt the edge of a bed that she had some idea. "Ms. Brielle, you can rest here."
After sitting stiffly on a couch for ages, she yearned for the comfort of the bed. She was beyond ready to crash.
But she was more worried about Aubree. Was she really being sent back?
"Aubree? What about her?"
"Our people are on it. In half an hour, Miss Aubree will be sent back."
Brielle let out a big sigh of relief. As long as Aubree was safe, that was all that mattered.
The room was eerily quiet. Brielle cautiously tugged at her blindfold, half-expecting someone to stop her. But no one did.
In the next instant, she yanked it off.
The room was lit, and after being covered for so long, the sudden light made her eyes tear up. She closed them for a moment, allowing them to adjust before slowly opening them again.
The room was bare, just a bed and nothing else. It was near a garden blooming with flowers. Her mood lightened for a brief moment, but she couldn't help but touch her belly.
The nausea from the car ride had faded, but after throwing up multiple times in the last few days, she still felt queasy.
"Hang in there, baby. Maybe by tomorrow, we can leave this place."
If Aubree was sent back, others could find her location through her. If they were quick, maybe they could get to her in time.
From the moment Brielle first laid eyes on King, she had a strong feeling he didn't want her dead. As long as she was alive, there was hope.
Brielle caressed her stomach, her gaze soft.
"It's my fault, baby. Don't blame your dad for not coming to save us. I'm really worried about him. I wonder if his head still hurts, where he might be..."
She whispered to her belly, comforting both her unborn child and herself. Finally feeling relaxed, she decided to lie down and rest.
No one noticed the hand that emerged from the edge of the cliff overlooking the garden. It was smeared with blood, and its owner was painstakingly climbing up from below.
His eyes were filled with vengeance, and he no longer had the strength to stand. He crawled across the ground, inching towards a specific spot in the garden.
A trail of blood marked his path, fueled by deep-seated hatred.
Everyone can go to hell. Let's all descend together.
Aubree's room was on the first floor, facing the cliff. Her blindfold had been removed, but her wrists and mouth were still bound.
She sat on the edge of the bed, helplessly watching the ghost-like figure crawling in the garden.
The garden lights cast a glow, revealing blood trailing behind the figure, like a demon that had crawled out of hell.
Aubree's pupils contracted. Hearing footsteps outside, she knew someone was coming to take her away, back to Beaconsfield. But what was happening outside? What was that bloody apparition - human or specter?
So much blood.
"Mmmph!"
She banged against the wall, trying to get the attention of the guard at the door, to alert them to the situation in the garden. But when the guard opened the door, he simply advised her.
"Miss Aubree, no one's after your life, nor after Ms. Brielle's. We'll send you back, and Ms. Brielle can rest easy. Please stop making a fuss. If King says it will be done, it will be done."

Clearly, this was one of King's men.
"Mmmph! Mmmph!"
Aubree frantically blinked, struggling to stand up.
The man, mistaking her discomfort for the bindings being too tight, moved closer.
"Miss Aubree, you're quite the handful, aren't you? I can't untie you, but I can loosen the ropes a bit."
He bent down to adjust the bindings on Aubree's wrists.
Aubree tilted her chin, urging him to look towards the garden.
до
But when the man looked, he saw one, just a trail of blood. He didn't inspect it closely and turned his gaze back to her. "I'll loosen these a bit for you."
In the garden...
Antonio had reached his destination, a black box resembling a fuse box.
This was the secret Grandfather had spoken of.
The Dorsey family estate, perched on the edge of a cliff, had a hidden terrace. A fall onto the terrace wouldn't be fatal. But missing it meant certain death.
He had remembered Grandfather's words and had dropped close to the cliff face.
He didn't die. Following a path older generations of the Dorsey family had cleared, he climbed up.
He was here for revenge. Everyone had to die.
Michael had said, the black box in the backyard seemed like a fuse- box, but it was a switch, one that could set the whole estate ablaze. A fire that would consume all.
The older generation, with enemies in every corner, had their escape burrows; this estate was their prepared tomb.
Only Michael knew this secret, for the estate had long been abandoned, and the secret had never been passed on to the next heir-Max.
