I let out a loud gasp as my eyes stared at him. As if he enjoyed my response, his lips curved up into a mischievous grin, which became more prominent and deeper as he continued to observe my reaction.

His devilish look made my knees shake. What did he mean by saying he would never do that? Was the reason behind it only to keep his throne in his hands?

I knew I would never survive the rejection, either. But still, I wanted to ask why he would never do that.

"W-Why?"

His eyes began to scrutinize my face. It was like his eyes were touching me; I felt them brushing my skin.

His gaze halted for a second on my lips, and I felt my lips quiver.

He shifted his gaze from my lips to my eyes. I could not describe how I was feeling right now. His eyes were piercing my soul.

"The reason is clear. I don't want to lose my position," he replied with a calm tone.

I broke eye contact. I was so mad at myself that, for a few seconds, I thought he would say something else.

What happened to me? Why was I thinking something impossible again and again?

"Then what about t me?" I asked with an angry tone.

"What about t you?" he asked right away.

I looked at him and asked, "How will I live my life?"

He looked confused, as if I had asked a dumb question. "Did I stop you from living? You are

totally fine standing in front of me, having a good job, and living your life fully."

Did he think that was called a good life? I was hanging between him and his throne. My fate

betrayed me; I could not even force him for the rejection, which would only risk my life.

"That means I can live however I want; you don't have any problem with it?"

He scoffed at me. "Why would I?"

I frowned at him.

"As I told you before, I am not the one who goes to him. That scumbag comes to me for saying sorry for the for the cheating he did. But who will believe in me? You think me a cheater and your

brother a good man."

He glared at me, demonstrating that he did not like how I was talking about his little brother. I guessed he really cared for him. As a big brother, he wanted to protect Bruce from me.

Bryan moved his hands from my sides and stood straight. "Don't dare talk about him like that again. This is my last warning. Don't forget that he is Alpha Bryan's brother."

His chilly tone echoed throughout the office room. I lowered my head.

"Yes, Alpha."

He turned around and walked to his chair.

I felt empty inside me the moment he moved away from me. I could not believe he could come this close to me, only to turn his back on me as if he did not feel the mate bond as much as I did. I did not know where my fate was taking me. I felt lost without direction, and I had no hopes for

my future. It was a complicated time in my life, and I struggled to find my purpose and meaning. I left his cabin in a gloomy mood. I had no idea why I was feeling sad.

Shouldn't I be happy that he would never interfere in my life as long as I stayed away from his brother?

While working, I couldn't keep track of time. A knock on the door interrupted my work.

Miss Selena opened the door and reminded me,

"Dear, it's already 8 p.m. Won't you go home?"

"Oh, no," I mumbled and got to my feet.

I told my mom that I would go back early today. But I was so into my work that I had forgotten about time.

"Thanks, Miss," I said to Miss Selena.

She chuckled at me. "You are a really hard-working girl."

She left my room, and I started to gather up my things from the desk and then put them in my backpack.

I grabbed my phone and noticed a few messages from my mother.

I replied to her messages, saying that I was on the way.

When I stepped out of my cabin, I noticed Bryan also came out of his office.

I ignored him as I hurriedly walked to the elevator.

There were two elevators, one for the other employees and another for the CEO to use.

I waited in front of the ordinary elevator. Miss Selena was there too, waiting for it. I smiled at her,

and she gave a nod at me. She was also working until now.

I glanced beside me and saw Bryan entering the other elevator. With him was another man talking

to him. I assumed he was giving him details about some project.

It took me a minute to wait for the elevator to arrive at the top floor of the building. Together with

Miss Selena, I walked in as soon as the door opened.

After saying my goodbyes to Mis to Miss Selena, I exited the elevator and made my way to the entrance area as soon as it reached the ground floor.

As I walked out of the company, I saw Bryan talking with Troy.

I parted my lips as I remembered that Troy had told me he would wait for me outside.

When I realized that I had almost forgotten about him, I shook my head. He might be waiting for me for an hour.

I walked in his direction. As I moved closer, I was able to hear them talking to each other.

"What are you still doing here?" Bryan asked Troy.

"Alpha, I was waiting for someone," Troy replied politely.

At that time, his eyes fell on me, and he said,

"There she is."

Bryan turned around to look, and his gaze met mine.
