Willow

I tiredly rolled around in the bed when I awoke, wincing at the soreness I could feel suffusing scarcely used muscles and electing to leave my eyes firmly shut as I reached out blindly, searching for my mate’s large form.

Nevertheless, they soared open abruptly when my wandering hands came up with nothing but an empty space and cold sheets during their hunt.

Blinking my groggy eyes open, I allowed them a minute to adjust to the bright light of a fully risen sun filtering through the white colored curtains, I had not realized that I had slept in so long, but it did not surprise me with how late Jax had kept me up last night, not that I was complaining.

Still, I knew one thing for certain. Those window coverings would be exchanged for a much darker alternative in the near future if I had anything to say about it.

I had newly discovered that I was not one of those people who liked to rise with the sun now that I had the option to choose my own waking time.

Be that as it may, it had become obvious over the short period of time that had elapsed since I had begun to observe my mate’s behaviors that he undeniably was, regardless of the previous night’s activities it would seem.

I had lost count of how many times he had managed to wring an ear-piercing o****m from my overworked body, just thinking about it now had another yawn slipping past my lips.

The delightful ache that I could still sense radiating out from my core further reminded me of the wicked things that my mate had done to my not-so-innocent anymore body. I absolutely reveled in his possession, and I found myself already anxious for the next round.

With that in mind, I sat up while blearily rubbing my eyes and glanced in all directions of the modest sized room, taking in the design elements for the first time as I did so and noting the double doors that led out to a balcony. I would unquestionably be exploring that later, but for now I resolved upon finding Jax prior to any more sightseeing.

I swung my legs over the side of the bed as I half-heartedly shoved the blankets back from my nude figure and looked around for something to wear.

I was becoming a lot more comfortable in my own skin since meeting Jax, but I was not confident enough in myself yet to walk around without any clothing on altogether.

I gazed at the tangled heap of bedding, feeling a flush heat my light skin as flashes of the carnal acts I had partaken in with my mate zoomed into my mind, but I quickly refocused when my roving eyes landed on the mess of clothes that we had left strewn about the floor last night in our mad dash to lose ourselves in one another, at least temporarily.

It had been the epitome as far as an escape from reality went and far better than any of my wolf or I’s imaginings heretofore, but I was left feeling somewhat unsettled by his absence the morning after, as silly as that sounded.

My eyes landed upon a rumpled shirt, and I swiftly shrugged it on over my head, knowing that Jax had left our luggage in the car yesterday in his haste to get me alone. I had just started looking around for some bottoms when I was astonished by his voice filling my head.

Good morning, sweetheart.

It took me a second to remember that I could connect with him through mind link now that we had consummated our bond and exchanged claiming bites, but as I registered the happy news, a wide smile stretched across my face in an instant.

Morning, baby. I was just looking for you actually.

I noticed my jeans from yesterday at the end of the bed, crumpled in a pile on the floor as I replied, but the idea of shimmying into the worn denim was unappealing, so I went rummaging through the walk-in closet as I continued my search.

I know, love. I could feel your disappointment through the bond. I am sorry, sweetheart. I wanted to be there when you woke up, but there were too many situations that required my attention to enjoy another morning in bed with you.

The idea of spending the day in bed was attractive, and I could feel the tingles that began to run through me in acknowledgment, but I became a bit nervous when he had mentioned the numerous things that promptly needed his supervision.

I knew that being alpha of an entire province came along with a mountain of responsibilities, and I could feel the stress that was already building up in him through our connection now that he had reminded me of the new skills that came alongside being mated.

I intended to help my mate tackle each one that came our way, something that he would be learning very soon.

I did not respond immediately as I took a minute to think through the implications of what he had said and concurrently pulled on the huge sweats that I had located, but he must have taken my silence as an answer because his voice invaded my head once more before I could respond.

Why don’t you meet me downstairs in the kitchen so I can hold you in my arms while we have this conversation. I will even make you a fresh pot of coffee.

I was onboard the second he had mentioned snuggling up with me, my wolf enthusiastically agreeing with the mention of spending time with our mate, but I was beyond ecstatic with the indication that coffee would be involved.

I love that you have already learned the way to my heart. I will be right down, baby.

I made my way into the adjoining bathroom, pausing to admire the large jacuzzi tub as I passed it on the way to the toilet. I took care of business and then considered taking a shower before joining Jax, but my wolf and I were too eager to be in our mate’s general proximity.

There was also the problem of all my belongings being outside in the car as well, but I chose not to dwell on that small inconvenience for now.

I left my long hair spilling down my back in messy tangles as I exited the bathroom after washing my hands. I knew it would take a minute to brush through all of the snarls, which were most likely caused by Jax’s hands tugging on the lengthy strands last night, and I did not have the energy to deal with it before my dose of caffeine.

Ensuing, I permitted my ears to roam, picking up on the sounds of movement below, and I subsequently followed them to where I assumed Jax was bustling around the kitchen, admiring the woodwork of the house as I went and finding myself mesmerized with the level of detail that the dwelling afforded.

Though it was not as large or expensively furnished as the pack house in the South, I overwhelmingly preferred the intricate and unique designs displayed in this beautiful home over the affluent, but hollow walls of where I had previously been relegated.

Even so, I shook off the shadows of my past without giving them a second thought as I stepped into the kitchen, my eyes distracted by the gorgeous wooden shelves that had been built directly into the wall and the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee saturating the air.

As a result, I did not initially notice that Ryker was the only other person in the room until he drew my attention with his words, “Well, aren’t you a sight for sore eyes?”
