Chapter 20 Landry's Blood

Tina

POV

"I am just telling you what I heard, Mistress!" Tina's maid cowers in fear before her as Tina rages around her bedroom, throwing anything she can get her hands on. Her maid has just come to her with news, news that enrages her. Landry, her cousin and the Alpha King, has hidden a woman in his palace. Some are saying she is to be his Luna Queen!

"No!" she shrieks, throwing her fists in the air. "I am to be the Luna Queen! That position is mine! This can't be!"

"I know, darling," Tina's mother says from the doorway. Her father is behind her, face purple with rage. He and Tina have the same tempers.

Tina and her family were relying on her becoming Landry's wife and the Luna Queen. The status increase would be intense, and they have been looking forward to that for a long time. All this time without Landry even glancing at another woman, Tina thought it would happen for sure.

Now there is a mysterious other woman!

"Mother!" Tina cries. "This isn't fair! Make him get rid of her!"

"Now darling, we can't do that," her mother says, and Tina screams in rage. "Now, now, we just have to plot to get rid of her ourselves. Who did you hear this news from, maid?"

"I spoke to Princess Jessie, mistress, the Alpha King's sister." The maid is very nervous in the face of a furious family. Tina turns her back on the cowering woman with a vicious smirk on her face.

"Jessie is a fool," she declares. "She has not trained like I have, she does not know the intricacies of government and politics. I can get more information out of her."

"Princess Jessie is in the Dining Hall, mistress," the maid says, and Tina runs from the room, single-mindedly rushing to the Dining Hall to corner the Princess and get the information she needs to figure out who the slut that Landry has is. "Princess!" she calls as she approaches the Alpha King's sister. Jessie looks up from her goblet in surprise, features warming when she sees it is her cousin. "I heard the most interesting tale from my maid today."

Tina made sure to turn on the charm, to make sure Jessie could not see her anger. If Jessie could tell that Tina was furious, she might grow suspicious.

"Cousin! Come, join me. What tale?" Jessie pats the chair beside her and Tina sits gracefully, holding herself as if she is already the Luna Queen.

"I heard that Landry has a woman in his palace," she says in a fake-whisper, playing up the secret, and Jessie giggles and nods. Fury burns in Tina's heart, but she pushes it down. She has to pretend to be happy.

"Oh, he does!" Jessie gushes, taking a sip from her goblet. "A gorgeous Omega she-wolf named Denise. He is so taken with her, I expect an engagement announcement soon."

Tina wants to punch Jessie in the face and take herself directly to Landry's palace to beat the bitch herself, but she doesn't. She holds herself like the future Queen she is and smiles and nods.

"Oh, how wonderful," she says. "So strange I haven't seen her!"

"Oh," Jessie says, and Tina can tell by the tone of her voice that this is an extra part of the secret. She listens attentively. "She rarely leaves the palace. Stays inside most of the time. It's so very odd!"

Tina knows right then that there must be something wrong with this Omega she-wolf if Landry is not showing her off as he ought to. Her hands clench into fists under the table and she has to take deep breaths to keep a hold of herself. She would teach Landry a lesson for keeping an Omega bitch as a mistress when he is meant to marry Tina!

Landry POV

Ever since Landry told Bernice that she would never again have to deprive herself, it seems the she-wolf took that to heart. Every day she is experimenting with new desserts, often gorging herself on sweets and treats even with a toothache. Despite her toothache, she refuses to see a witch-doctor.

During the night, Bernice is finding it difficult to sleep. Between the toothache and the illness that is killing her - though Landry is still trying to find a cure - her sleep is interrupted more often than not. Landry tries to soothe her, but he is worried.

She grows worse every day.

And every day he curses Bernice's evil stepmother and father, for forcing that medication upon her and making her become an Alpha. If she hadn't had to do that, she could have had a sweet life, like she deserves.

At night, as Bernice sleeps, Landry watches her. He thinks of how much he loves her, how lucky he is to be able to help her with her heats. It is a privilege, and even if she doesn't admit how she feels, Landry knows that once she's cured, he'll have the time to convince her to admit it.

Bernice doesn't allow Landry to mark her and claim her, but Landry thinks it's only a matter of time. After all the time they spend having sex and working on political matters that Landry seeks Bernice's input on, Landry only falls deeper in love with Bernice.

One day, he's sure he'll mark her, claiming her as his Omega and giving her the life she deserves.

"Are you sure?" he asks the witch-doctor. His Beta had fetched him, telling him he'd found the witch-doctor Landry had ordered him to find, that the cure is waiting for him. Landry had run so fast he hadn't even changed from his sleeping clothes before meeting the witch-doctor.

"Positive," the witch-doctor says, nodding. "Alpha King blood plus the juice from those berries you picked, drunk every morning and every night, can effectively relieve the pain of the patient. You were right, those berries were the key." "Just like that?" Landry asks. He needs to make sure. It sounds so simple. The witch-doctor nods.

"Are you kidding?" Landry's Beta asks in disbelief. "How in the Hell are we supposed to get Alpha King blood?"

"I am an Alpha King," Landry says firmly, withdrawing the knife he always keeps strapped to his hip. He takes the crystal cup the witch-doctor produces and holds out his arm to cut. His Beta stops him.

"Are you mad!" he cries. "Your blood is so precious! How could you make such a sacrifice!"

Landry stares at him and slowly cuts into his arm. Bright red blood spills out, into the crystal cup. His Beta gasps, shocked, but Landry doesn't care.

"My sacrifice?" he demands, as his blood keeps flowing. "Compared to the countless sacrifices Bernice has made? This is no sacrifice."

His Beta keeps gaping but Landry bleeds himself until there's enough for Bernice to take a first dose. He'll do it every night forever if he has to.
