Mating the Female Alpha -
Chapter 29 – Ballroom dancing
Bernice's POV
I'm shocked that this maid figured out my secret. Remembering what happened with Jessie's last maid and how she ended up being an assassin spy, I am wary of this maid. It must have shown on my face because she gave me a small and shy smile.
"Your identity is safe with me," she says, bowing her head. "But I would also like to help you escape."
"I'm afraid you've been mistaken. I'm not whom you think I am."
"I remember your face so vividly. You have the same face as the female alpha. You don't need to hide it from me. I want to help you. I'm not the only one who wishes to help. If you let us, we can get you out of here."
My heart stops in my chest at her words as I narrow my eyes.
"Who else wishes to help?"
"The Alpha King's cousin, Tina," the maid says with wide eyes.
Something isn't adding up.
"What else did Tina say, exactly?"
...
I brush the conversation with the maid out of my mind as she leaves for the evening. Landry came to retrieve me and bring me to Jessie's palace for the ball. He has a car waiting outside for us and his driver opens the backseat for us to enter. As I sit beside Landry, I grow even more nervous the closer we get to the princess' palace.
Whatever Tina was planning, it isn't going to work. I'm much smarter from what I hear, and her tricks won't work on me. Granted, I never actually met Tina before. So, I'm not really sure what I'm up against. I only know that she is the woman that everybody expects to be the luna queen. At least they did until I showed up. Not that I'm going to be the luna queen, but nobody else seems to question it.
As we get to the palace, I can't help but notice everybody has their eyes turned in our direction. I was hoping it was because I just arrived with the Alpha King, but I soon realize their eyes are staring directly at me.
To be safe, and to seal my identity, I placed a white butterfly mask over half of my face; the wings expand out with swirling and shimmering gold, bringing out the yellow in my dress. I couldn't let anyone else know my identity. I came close to being discovered by that maid, but I was able to convince her that she's been mistaken.
She was adamant about helping me escape, but I rejected her offer.
As we walk through the crowds of people, who were still gawking at me, I begin to feel a bit awkward. I can hear their whispers growing more apparent.
"Is that the Alpha King's omega?"
"It must be! She is absolutely stunning! Look at that dress!"
"Our future luna queen is gorgeous!"
I can feel my face growing warm the more they spoke their appraises. Landry offered me his hand, trying to avert my attention away from the gossiping crowd.
"Let's dance," he says as he takes a hold of my outstretched wrist.
I never danced before, and I knew I wasn't going to do well.
"I don't dance," I tell him softly.
"Nonsense," he says, pulling me toward the dance floor. "It's a ball; we dance."
He twirls me around and wraps an arm around my waist while holding onto my other hand. I don't have to do a lot of moving because he is moving my body for me. I can't help the smile as he continues to spin me around the dance floor. I grow dizzy, but he soon lifts me off the ground and we dance carefree like nobody is watching.
Landry makes dancing seem so easy; perhaps it is easy for him. The crowd is still watching us as we continue to dance. They start clapping and cheering for us, which causes us both to laugh.
...
Tina's POV
She doesn't even know how to dance, and yet the crowd is all over her, eating her up. To Tina, it was just pathetic behavior all around. She can't help but watch Landry and that omega bitch from across the ballroom. She doesn't even notice Jessie approaching at first until it was too late.
"Your plan is working," Jessie cooed. "The ball is a success. Look how happy my brother and Denise look!"
That is all Jessie cares about is her brother's happiness. Tina only cares about her own happiness and she isn't going to be happy until the omega is out of the picture. She wants to humiliate her for the fraud that she is.
In the corner of her eye, she spots a servant she had spoken to hours prior. He stood by the door, eyeing her carefully, waiting for her to make her way over to him. She excuses herself from Jessie and pulls her eyes away from Landry long enough to slip into the halls behind the servant.
He says nothing as he turns to her and pulls out a dark purple flower with the smallest green stem she has ever seen. There's a light-yellow dusting of pollen coating the top of the petals.
"Aphrodisiac flower, mistress. Just as you requested."
Tina smirks and grabs the flower, staring at the delicate, yet dangerous, flower that twirled around her fingers.
"It's perfect," she breathes, forgetting momentarily that the servant boy is still there.
"May I ask why you requested such a flower?"
"No, you may not," Tina snaps. "You are dismissed."
"Yes mam," the servant boy says as he bows his head.
He turns away and starts to walk in the opposite direction. Tina knows that this flower will not only cause the omega to go into deep heat and make a complete fool of herself. But it will also act as a truth serum. She will have no other choice but to tell, the truth about who she really is. Once Landry finds out that he's been deceived, he won't want anything to do with her anymore.
It's the perfect plan; a plan that Tina couldn't wait to accomplish. She tucks the flower neatly in her pocket before returning to the ballroom. She notices from across the room that a small crowd had formed around the Alpha King and the omega. They are cheering for them still; they were also in awe of her beauty. That much was obvious.
But they won't think she's beautiful once she has some of this aphrodisiac.
Tina makes her way across the ballroom and toward the ball. The bartender greets her with a nod to his head.
"Two glasses of your finest red wine," she orders.
He grabs two large glasses and fills them with a red liquid. She brings the glasses to a table away from view as she crushes the flowers. Once she gathers enough dusting, she sprinkles it into one of the glasses. The dusting floated for a moment before completely dissolving in the red wine.
This causes Tina to smile with pleasure.
"This is going to be too easy," she says to herself with a smirk. "Now it's time for a toast."
