Mating the Female Alpha
Chapter 92 – Fighting for Bernice’s life.

Bernice's POV

"Talia...?" I said again, forcing myself to sit up and ignore the dizzy feeling that washed over me. "What... what are..." I couldn't even get the words out of my voice.

She continued to cradle my crying pup in her arms while staring at me with a grin spreading across her face.

"You didn't honestly think that Alaric would let you go that easily... did you?" She asked with a fake pout. "You are pathetic to think otherwise. I'm just glad I don't have to pretend to be your friend anymore."

"It was you the entire time?" I asked, my word quivering. I could hardly believe what was seen before me.

How had I not known that it was Talia this entire time? I have lived in her house for almost a month; she showed me kindness and helped take care of me. But it was only so she can get my baby.

"Sorry to disappoint you," she said. "But I must be leaving now."

She turned away as I started to feel my wolf growing furious from within me. She was no longer going to be quiet; she was about to lose control.

I have been tricked; I allowed this woman into my life. I allowed her to get to my son.

I clenched my fists, feeling fury boiling through my entire body.

She was already running out of the house with my crying pup by the time I managed to get out of bed. Julia shifted and we went after her.

...

Landry's POV

There were still no signs of Alaric as the battle went on. His warriors fought with everything they had inside themselves, including Caleb. He fought with passion; he was fighting for his sister. Landry admired that; he might have been young, but he certainly wasn't weak.

He supposed he had Bernice to thank for that. She did train him herself.

"Something is wrong," his wolf growled from within him. "It's Bernice... I can feel her. Something is wrong."

"What do you mean you can feel her?" Landry hissed in return.

It's been almost 8 months and this was the first time his wolf has mentioned being able to feel her. Did that mean she was nearby?

"I can't explain it; it's like her wolf is calling out to me. But she feels far away."

"How far? Can we reach her?" Landry asked.

His wolf had fallen silent for only a moment.

"I think... I think she had the pup..." his wolf breathed, causing Landry's entire body to go still in the middle of the battle.

No.

That couldn't be right. Was it time for her to have the baby?

She shouldn't be due for another month.

Why was his wolf able to feel this all of a sudden?

Before Landry could ask his wolf any more questions, more vampires emerged from hidden areas in the forest. They were being called from different locations. Landry had to brush the thought of Bernice out of his mind if he wanted to win this battle; he had to trust that she would be able to take care of herself at that moment.

Landry continued to fight alongside his men. With each vampire he killed, he felt more strength and more power surging through him. It was the adrenaline rush he needed. It was only a matter of time before Alaric emerged from his layer and joined the fight.

He noticed a couple of vampires running back toward the layer and disappearing through the doors.

Cowards.

Landry looked to Caleb who continued to fight his share of vampires; he hardly had a scratch on him. He had a wild look in his eyes as he eyed the door to the layer. He was looking at it like he was about to charge toward it. That would be a suicide mission if he tried to do such a thing.

"Caleb!" Landry growled through a mindlink. "Don't even think about it. Stay with your team."

"I can get in," Caleb said through their shared mindlink so the vampires couldn't hear them. "I saw the passcode when one of the vampires went in. I can get into the layer and get that asshole vampire lord."

"It would be suicide; you aren't to go in there alone. Understood?"

"Then come with me," Caleb urged. "I fight like my sister; even you must admit that. We can defeat Alaric once and for all."

He was right; the two of them probably had a chance against Alaric, but they really weren't sure what they were up against. Alaric uses the art of dark magic, and they aren't sure what the layer contains; or whom it contains. It would be better if they continued fighting outside and lure Alaric to the surface so they can fight in the open forest.

"We stay above ground," Landry said with finality; his Alpha voice booming across the grounds.

Caleb didn't look pleased with Landry's response, but he didn't argue anymore. He continued to fight his share of vampires alongside the other warriors.

Landry could feel an incredible dark power emerging from the layer and a glimmer of humor spread across his face.

Alaric was approaching.

It looks like he wanted to have a little bit of fun after all. He probably saw how well the wolves were fighting; they were able to kill a handful of vampires and so far, most of the wolves remained unharmed.

Alaric stood at his layer door, a smile on his face as he gazed around the forest ground at the battle unfolding before him. He continued to scan until his eyes landed on Landry and then they darkened.

"You might be winning against my men, but you certainly won't win against me. Face it, Wolf King, I'm the most powerful being to ever exist. And you are nothing but weak," Alaric spat. "Doesn't mean I'm not going to try," Landry growled in return.

"I just got word from one of my best spies... it seems your she-wolf had a little baby boy. Congratulations," Alaric said, darkness lingering in his eyes.

"I was right!" His wolf roared within him. "She had our pup!!"

And it's a boy.

"If you lay one hand on him..." Landry said between gritted teeth.

"You aren't really in a position to be making threats, Wolf King," Alaric said, stopping Landry's words. "My spy has the pup and is on her way back here. I'll be getting what I want soon enough and you... well... you'll be losing everything. Landry roared with anger; he was ready to lung; he's had enough of Alaric's bullshit. Out of the corner of Landry's eyes, he could see Caleb inching closer to the layer doors. Nobody seemed to be paying attention to him, including Alaric. If Landry dared to look in Caleb's direction, it would give him away.

Landry kept his eyes on Alaric, making Alaric face the opposite direction as he continued to taunt Landry.

"Caleb... what are you doing?" Landry seethed through the mindlink.

"He's filled with power... I can feel it from all the way over there. Which means there's got to be a power source somewhere," Caleb explained. "I can get in and find it."

"I told you to stand down. It's a suicide mission."

"It might be the only way to defeat him. Just keep him distracted. I'll try not to be long."

Before Landry could say anything in return, Caleb disconnected the mindlink.

Landry had no choice now, he needed to keep Alaric distracted and away from the layer long enough for Caleb to find what he was looking for.

Landry lunged at Alaric, feeling Alaric's magic surging like an electric bolt through Landry's body and jolting him to the ground. Landry glanced in the direction of Caleb, but it was too late. He was already inside the layer.
