Misguided Vows (Lethal Vows Book 5) -
Misguided Vows: Chapter 23
My phone has been ringing all morning, and every time I look at it, I see his name.
I let it ring.
I don’t plan to get up early. I did tell him this afternoon after all. I might have purposefully left out the information that I won’t be at the shop today. Since the tilers are starting their work, it means no one but them can be on-site until they’re done. Of course, I’m a call away, as I focus on other aspects of the job, but he doesn’t need to know that.
Part of me is somewhat curious as to how long it will take for him to realize I haven’t left the hotel yet. I do plan on checking out later today before I meet with Honey to get the keys to her apartment.
When my phone rings again, I don’t even bother checking who’s calling before I answer, as I’m online shopping for certain fixtures I’m going to need.
“I told you the afternoon!” I yell into the phone.
“Alina?” my mother gasps on the other end of the line.
“Shit, sorry, Mom. I thought it was someone else.”
“Who got you so mad?” she asks.
“A man.” I laugh, adjusting how I’m sitting in bed and moving my laptop to the side.
“Well, I hope he does other things than just make you mad.” I smile as I think of the other things he can do… with his mouth and hands and cock, and how very gifted he is with said body parts.
I dreamed of him and what we did.
A part of me wants to do it again. He is by far the best in bed I have ever had.
Maybe his cockiness is actually earned.
I believe so.
But I’ve been with cocky assholes before, and their game in the bedroom consisted of doggie style, nothing else.
I guess that made them feel macho.
Whatever.
“How is New York? Are you having fun? You’re due to head back to London soon, yes? Do you think you can stop here to see me?”
So many questions.
“Well, I’m staying here longer than originally planned. As of now, I think it should only take me about eight weeks, but I don’t think I’ll be free to leave for more than a few hours at the moment. I could try to fly you here, if you think you’re able?”
“No, I don’t want to fly,” she’s quick to say, and I can hear her throat constrict. She only tried to fly once, as a child. That was the first and last time.
“Okay. I’ll try to fly out to see you for a weekend, but I’m not sure when yet.”
“That sounds wonderful. I miss you,” she admits. “Now, are you going to tell me about this man who’s made you so mad?”
“I miss you too,” I reply as a knock sounds on the door. “And he’s more like a boy than a man. Not much to discuss,” I add as I absentmindedly get up, wearing only a baggy shirt over my G-string. It’s long enough to cover me, so I’m not too concerned about answering the door to get the coffee I ordered from room service. But when I pull open the door, it’s not room service greeting me but Will, and he’s in a suit.
“I think I should be part of the debate as to whether I’m a boy or man, wouldn’t you agree?” he says with an arrogant smirk and if it were anyone else I might’ve been embarrassed that he heard that last part through the door. “Ready to collect your plane?”
“Who is that?” my mother asks.
“No one, Mother,” I tell her before I place my hand over the speaker to hiss at Will, “I said afternoon.”
Ignoring me, he looks at the phone, and his brows pinch before he reaches forward and takes it from my grasp.
“Hey!” I trying to jump up and grab it, but there’s a significant height difference between us today now that I’m not wearing my heels.
“Hello, Mrs. Harper, it’s lovely to meet you. I’m William, the gentleman your daughter is seeing.”
“Like hell. I am not seeing you,” I bite back, but he chuckles as he pushes out of my way so I can’t reach my phone.
He raises a brow and pointedly says, “You’re in front of me; therefore, I see you.” He winks and listens to whatever it is my mother says, then smiles. I try wrestling him to steal my phone back.
That’s when I notice his phone in his back pocket, and I swipe it.
He doesn’t notice at first. They never do.
That is until he turns around and I’m holding it in front of him. His eyebrows raise appraisingly as I take a few steps back and toward the bathroom. He follows me each step, his smile growing wider as I open the toilet lid and dangle his phone over the bowl.
He now wears a face-splitting grin.
“Give me my phone back. I imagine it’d suck if you had to buy a new phone and redownload all of your little games on here, wouldn’t it, gamer boy?”
He chuckles and leans against the doorframe. “It was lovely to speak with you, and yes, I would love to accompany Alina out to visit you. It would be my pleasure.”
Fucking hell.
But he hands my phone back to me as he quietly says, “You have no idea how much money has been invested in that phone for tracking, not gaming.”
I don’t trust him as I slowly pluck my phone out of his fingers, and he catches my wrist as I go to drop his phone into the bowl anyway. I bite on my lower lip as I step into the shower, as if the glass might protect me from him. He’s smiling as he pockets his phone again and watches me like a predator toying with its prey. It creates goose bumps all over my skin.
I pointedly say into the phone, “He’s not coming, Mother.”
“Oh, darling, it’s been so long since you brought a man home.” She pauses. “Bring him.”
“Goodbye, Mother. I’ll talk to you later.” I hang up and look him dead in the eye.
“Do you really think that shower door will keep me away from you?” he asks, his gaze roaming over my body.
“Room service,” someone calls out from the hallway, and I remember that my door is open.
I open the shower door, and he chuckles and steps to the side as I walk into the bedroom and toward the front door. He admires my ass as he says, “I should give you one of my shirts to wear. I hear that makes a man’s cock as hard as a rock, though it’s pretty hard just seeing you in this.” He nods to my shirt.
I really hope the guy delivering my coffee didn’t hear that.
I thank and tip him before I close the door and shoot a smile at Will. “It’s my ex’s,” I lie.
“I can cut it off, then,” he growls, stepping closer. I move farther back, pressing against the door.
“Or you can leave,” I tell him as I casually sip the coffee. But fuck me if my pussy isn’t pounding in anticipation over what this man can make me feel. “We agreed to one time.”
It’s hard to ignore his imposing presence when I just want to rip his clothes off. But if I do, then I might not get the plane. It still blows my mind that he might be serious about handing it over, but neither do I think he’s a liar.
“Is that what you really want?” he asks, leaning in so his breath caresses my neck. “For me to leave?” I bite the inside of my cheek to stop myself from saying no. Because I would very much like him to throw me on the bed and have his way with me.
“Get dressed. We’ll go see the plane and do the paperwork,” he says, then grabs the top of my shirt and tears it straight down the middle before he turns, letting it fall from my body to the floor. I’m shocked, standing there in my G-string, as he offers an arrogant and appreciative smile before stepping back and opening the door, basically kicking me out of the way so he can leave.
What an asshole.
But my heart is still pounding from how fucking hot that was.
This man is as terrifying as he is beautiful and insufferable.
