Mommy for Billionaire's Baby -
Chapter 21
Nathan glanced reluctantly at his phone. It had vibrated three times, but he didn't feel like responding. It was because Alexa's name appeared on the screen, making him even more inclined to ignore the black flat object. Although there was something he was waiting for... Argh! Nathan became annoyed.
"Good afternoon, Sir."
"Hem." Nathan frowned in confusion as the security guard he usually met at the main entrance of his office knocked on the door and entered the room, accompanied by... "Dad?"
Mr. Herry grinned slightly. "Thank you, Sir, for bringing me here."
"Of course, Sir." The security guard then left the room.
"Why is Dad here for a change?" Nathan quickly approached his father. "Where's Mom?"
"Do you really want to meet Mom?"
Nathan scoffed. "If she brings a redhead for a blind date, then no, I don't want to! I refuse!"
Mr. Herry burst into laughter. "That's why you should bring your potential wife to us, Nathan."
Nathan gestured for Mr. Herry to sit on the sofa in his office. He also asked OB to prepare coffee for his father.
"Where's Tasya? Dad didn't meet her in her office."
"She has some office tasks," Nathan quickly replied.
"Unusual for her not to be with you."
"Do we have to be together all the time?"
Mr. Herry still had a faint smile on his lips. "Who knows, Tasya might meet someone else on her way back, and you'll be the one in trouble."
"Huh? Why should I be in trouble?" Nathan raised an eyebrow in confusion. Their lighthearted conversation was interrupted when someone knocked on the door again. Two cups of freshly brewed coffee were placed in front of them. "Dad, please help me stop whatever Mom wants. It's giving me a headache. Tasya is also affected by it. She has to work overtime because Mom keeps bothering her with questions. Where can I find a woman who suits me and Naina?" Nathan bombarded his father with various complaints, including a point where he felt his mother had gone a bit too far.
"Your mother means well, Nathan. How old are you now? It's time to get married. What are you waiting for?"
Nathan fell silent. The cup of coffee he intended to sip remained untouched. It was not because the aroma was no longer enticing, nor was it just an ordinary cup of coffee. Nathan wasn't interested in the type of black coffee served unless Tasya was present. He didn't want to inconvenience others for no reason. Only Tasya's creations matched his taste.
Many things were thrown at Naina's personal life, mostly directed at Tasya. Nathan himself was confused as to why he easily confided in a girl who was so different from the women who usually warmed his bed. Those kinds of questions were unable to provide him with answers.
In the end, all he could say to his father was, "I'm not ready, Dad."
"In what aspect?" Mr. Herry leaned back on the sofa. "Your career is stable, even though eventually you'll have to hand it over to Naina, but at least while you're here, there's a lot you can learn. I'm sure that once you let go of Faldom, you'll be successful out there."
"Yes, Dad." Nathan was aware of that. He wasn't a power-hungry person. On the contrary, he had faced many doubts here. Under the cynical gazes and remarks about his incompetence as a leader, he shattered those notions with hard work. For whom? Besides Naina, also for his older brother, Noah Sinclair.
"Think about your future."
"But that doesn't mean I agree with Mom's idea, Dad. Do you really think I would let Naina's story about Mommy Seira turn into my blind date with a redhead? Just because she came up with an idea."
Mr. Herry burst into laughter again, while Nathan sighed in annoyance.
"Don't meddle in that matter again, Dad. Please tell Mom. I can find someone on my own. Besides, you know that I can't get close to just any woman, right? Naina... oh, Dad! It would be a disaster if I played a trick on a girl who is close to me."
"You're right." Mr. Herry laughed once more, infecting Nathan with his laughter. Their laughter filled the room. They then engaged in enthusiastic work-related discussions, which re-energized Nathan. They were so engrossed in their conversation that Nathan didn't pay much attention to his vibrating phone, which emitted a buzzing sound.
"It might be important," his father interjected when Nathan glanced at the table again.
"No, Dad. If it's Oma Alexa, I won't answer it. She won't be satisfied until I do."
Mr. Herry shrugged. He was about to continue their paused conversation when the sound of a knock on the door made them turn their heads.
"Come in," Nathan responded promptly, and the door swung open. Tasya appeared, carrying two paper bags.
"Good afternoon, Sir," she greeted warmly. Slowly, she placed her belongings on the table and gestured for OB to enter with a serving plate.
"What's this, Tasya?" Nathan asked with interest.
"Ms. Nadine asked me to apologize. She didn't avoid meeting you, but she's been quite busy lately."
Nathan didn't immediately believe her words. "This is the best lunch menu from the hotel restaurant managed by Ms. Nadine. I hope you like it, Sir. I ordered what you usually enjoy. But forgive me, I didn't know Mr. Herry was here." "Just relax, Tasya." Mr. Herry laughed. "Prepare it for Nathan only."
"Huh? Dad, you don't want to have lunch together?"
"I don't want to disturb your lunch," Mr. Herry replied.
Tasya was taken aback. "Please, just relax. Let me order something else. It's rare for you and Mr. Herry to have lunch together. I had dinner with you and Naina last night at home. Make use of the time you have, Sir." What Tasya said made Mr. Herry fall silent. His gaze fixed on Tasya.
"Please have a seat, Sir. I'll serve the lunch. Continue your conversation. I'll order something else. Don't mind me."
"Did you already have lunch, Tasya?" Nathan asked.
"Yes, Sir."
"Can you please not lie to me?"
Tasya smiled. "What would be the use of me lying?" She proceeded to pour the soup into a more suitable bowl. "Please warm this up, too," she requested to office boy, who was still nearby. "And this one as well."
Nathan let Tasya serve the food she brought. He also removed the coffee cups of the two men who were still staring at her intently. "You've had two cups already, right, Mr. Nathan? There's no coffee this afternoon, okay? Remember, you have to stay healthy because many people depend on you here. Including me." Tasya's smile was not wide. It was thin, but it made Nathan silent for a long time.
"Well, everything is ready now," the bespectacled girl said with a satisfied smile. "Enjoy your meal."
As the door that had opened earlier closed again, no one spoke to each other. Until the middle-aged man sitting in front of Nathan burst into laughter.
"What's up, Dad?" Nathan asked, puzzled.
"Are you willing to let go, Nathan?"
Nathan furrowed his brow.
"It turns out only Noah Sinclair, Papa's son, is perceptive. You're not. A girl as good as Tasya is rare, Nathan. See? She's skilled not only as an assistant but also patient in dealing with you. And you still won't get closer to her? Instead of getting headaches from the arranged marriage your mother is pushing, why don't you ask Tasya out on a date?"
