Chapter 9

Debby freezed expecially as the cologne of the person she just collided with filled her nostrils. She raised her head up at once and received the greatest shock of her life when she realized that the person she collided with was Harry Vernon.

She almost fainted, she repeatedly and rubbed her face to be sure she was seeing the right person.

"I didn't expect that you will be able to escape," Harry Vernon said casually but his face was stern and scary.

She swallowed a hard lump that had blinked formed in her throat then she suddenly thought about what he may be doing here. Did this man hurt her son?

"My son!" She exclaimed," please tell me you don't hurt him." Debby was more concerned about her son.

Henry had come here to visit Fred since Debby had said the boy is likely to be sad if she didn't show up at home. When he got here, he realized that Fred was sad indeed. He tried all his best to cheer him up but he wouldn't respond unless he sees his mom so he decided to free his mom and think of other ways to punish her.

No one in Darkwood can excape his sight anyways. Henry thought. He didn't expect for Debby to have escaped from the room she kept her.

How stubborn is this woman? he thought to himself.

Since the following day was Monday, Harry Vernon spoke, "report to my office first thing tomorrow morning." Then he began to walk away.

Debby ran inside immediately and saw Fred sitting by the edge of the chair with a very sad look. As soon as Fred sighted her, he screamed happily, "mom!" He jumped off the chair and went to hug her.

Debby hugged him dearly and almost cried. She had missed her son so much. She had thought that she will not be able to meet him today.

She let him remain in her hug for a long time after which she sat and made him sit right beside her.

"Mom, I thought you wouldn't come home this night," Fred said with a pathetic but cute face.

"I can't let you spend a night without me," Debby said and kissed her on the forehead

Fred examined his mom's face and couldn't help but notice how pale her face looked. He then asked, "mom, hope you are fine?"

"Sure, lam. I just got too entangled with work today. I promise it won't happen again," Debby said then quickly added, "you should go to bed now so you can wake up early tomorrow morning for school." "Okay," Fred got down from the chair and suddenly looked at Debby,

"mom, I have something to show you."

"What's that?" Debby asked curiously.

"I'll be back," Fred ran with his small and cute legs and soon dissapeared out of her sight, Debby wondered what Fred could want to show her. Probably something about his school.

Fred came back a few seconds later with a big letter that was in a file then stretched it to her, she collected the file slowly and before removing the letter that was inside, she asked, "did anyone told you to give me this?" Perhaps, Henry had given this to Fred. "No one gave me. I performed a DNA test and that's the result." Fred said and added, "Mommy, my daddy is a billionaire CEO!" The little one jubilated merrily.

Fred had told Sarah to take her to the hospital after he got the hair he needed from Henry at the underground garage of Vernon's corporation.

Debby was stupefied, "you performed a DNA test? With who?" She was pertubed.

"I told Aunt Sarah to take me to your company cause I want to meet with the man I deflated his tyre a few days ago. Since the man has the same resemblance with me, I have a feeling that he could be my father. Fortunately for me, he came around and I was able to get strands of his hair, that was what I used in performing DNA test," Fred said lightly.

Debby frowned, so Henry was right when he said he saw Fred at Vernon's corporation. Debby works at Vernon's corporation from Mondays to Fridays while she works as a manager at A restaurant on Saturdays and Sundays.

Since today was Sunday, she had been working at A restaurant. How dare Sarah take her child out without her permission? Debby was very displeased with Sarah's act.

She unsealed the file and removed the test result. She firstly confirmed the legitimacy of the test results by checking for the stamp of the hospital on it. After seeing the stamp of the hospital, her mind began to beat abnormally even as she read through the results. To her greatest surprise, it was confirmed that Harry Vernon was Fred's father.

So Harry Vernon was the man that had s*x with her many years ago.

It was no wonder Fred had the same resemblance with him. Debby quickly asked Fred, "Harry Vernon was here, did you show him this result?" Debby's heart was at her throat as she asked this question.

"No," Fred shook his face innocently.

Debby then heaved a sigh of relief. That man must not know that Fred is for him otherwise, he would just collect him from her forcefully.

"Fred, you must not tell anyone he's your father, okay?" Debby warned in a soft voice.

"But why? I should be proud that he's my father. I'm sure he will like me and like you then protect and care for the both of us," Fred said.

Debby knew Fred was only speaking like a child, she smiled," Fred, that man, Harry Vernon, although he's your father, he's not someone we want to get close to. He's very dangerous plus he has a girlfriend so he will never accept us. I want you to stay far away from him, please.

Okay?"

Fred frowned," you want me to stay far away from my daddy?"

She swallowed," Fred, you are still young and there are some things I can t explain to you at the moment. But do you trust mommy?" Fred hesitated before answering, "yes, I trust mommy." "Then do what mommy says."

"Does that mean I'll never get closer to my daddy? Other children at school talks about their daddy except me..." The Little's one face became like one that's about to break down into tears. Debby pulled him into her warm embrace and sald, "I can be both a daddy and a mommy for you." Debby didn't know how else to convince Fred that they didn't need that man, Harry Vernon

A couple of minutes later, Debby lead him to sleep then she went ahead to keep the DNA test result where it will never be found by anyone Debby then stormed angrily to Sarahs room. Once she unlocked the door, Debby spoke in a very stern tone," how dare you take my son to my company? You didn't even bother to inform me. Are you tired of this job already?"

"Ma..." Sarah stuttered.

"You are tired of this job, right?"

"No, ma. I'm so sorry. Fred was the one who kept pleading to me to take him to Vernon's corporation. He added that it will make him happy," Sarah said, scared that Debby might just fire her.

Let me give you a stern and final warning. Dont ever take my son anywhere again without informing me, understood?" Debby warned.

"Yes, ma. I'm so sorry ma," Sarah said and watched as Debby angrily walked away.

Debby went to the living room and sat, she was very overwhelmed with the new revelation that just unfolded. So Harry Vernon is the father of her child? Oh! He must never find out. "You!" Debby gritted her teeth in anger. How could she not recognize this person," what are you calling me for?"

"Lie to me that you have not missed me all this years?" Arthur asked.

Debby smirked," it seems you are drunk or just out of your mind. You cheated on me with my bestfriend and you seriously think that I'll miss you?"

Arthur scoffed, "even if you miss me, you won't tell me. So I have heard that you now have a son who has the same resemblance with me. Wow! I'll like to see him."

"Stay far away from my son and don't ever call this line again cause I'll be blocking you," Debby hung the call angrily then blocked his line.

At that same moment, a knock landed on her door.

At this time of the night, who could that be? Debby thought.
