My Arrogant Mate
Chapter 31

SILVAN

"Do we need anything else?"

Igor gave me a questioning look after loading several bottles of champagne and whiskey into the trunk of the SUV.

"No, that should be enough," I answered him, closing the full trunk, then leaning against the car for a moment and enjoying the rest of the sun.

Igor did the same and lit a cigarette with relish. I would have loved to light one up too, but since I first saw Jade in the woods I had broken the habit because I didn't want to put that smell on a non-smoker.

"How's it going with Jade?" Igor then turns to me as if he could read my mind about her.

"It's going really well," I replied and couldn't help but smile at the thought of last night, even though I didn't want to show myself so emotionally in front of my pack. Her smell, her warmth... It all became a kind of addiction for me, much more addictive than just cigarettes.

"Man, it must be going really well," he suddenly laughed at my grinning face, and I joined in his stupid laugh. In front of Igor I was able to show myself more relaxed. He knew me best, after all, even though he was human.

"She's really a number in her own right," I gushed almost like a teenager in love, before pushing myself off the car and standing right in front of Igor.

He just nodded in agreement and I eyed him as he stood there smoking in his much too warm brown leather jacket.

I almost didn't notice the scars on his face anymore, as they just belonged to him, but here in the sun they shone and we showed once again how much he had to go through to be accepted by my side.

"Oh no," I suddenly heard him whisper and before I could ask him what's going on, I bit my lower lip in annoyance.

"Hellooo Silvan!"

Melania... The blonde who almost made Jade tear my entire car apart.

Igor shrugged and annoyed I turned to her to be hugged tightly by her.

Her penetrating scent of perfume was so intense that I found it awkward even to take a breath, but I had to be kind because she was my father's favorite and if he had his way I would have married her long ago. "Hello," I said only briefly and then quickly broke away from her to examine her properly.

As always, she was only wearing a skimpy blue dress with a high ponytail and high heels that broke my neck just to look at.

"What are you guys doing here?" she asked us curiously, fiddling with the ends of her hair as if she thought I'd like it, but what I've come to like were teddy bear pajamas and music by Adele.

"Nothing special," I answered in a hurry to flee with Igor as quickly as possible, but she took my arm and looked at me intently.

"I know you're celebrating today. I'd love to help with the preparations," she smiled, but I ignored her face and freed myself from her stubborn grip...

If I didn't already have so many problems with my father, I would probably dump her in the lake, but he took his whims out on my mother and I just didn't want that.

"Then get in," I said, completely stressed out by her intrusiveness, and then dropped into the driver's seat.

It was my own fault. If I hadn't tried to make Jade jealous, Melania might have left me alone... Although, probably not, she'd been after me for far too long and ever since that one night, where we'd had something more than just cuddling, she'd been glued on me like hardened chewing gum. Jade will kill me...

When I got home, I got out first and opened the trunk first, then unlocked the front door, where I was presented with a sight that made me freeze with my mouth open.

Martha sat calmly on my stool, treated herself to fruit and read the newspaper, while Jade, completely sweaty and breathing like a dying moose, mopped the dark brown wooden floor.

Her jade green eyes met mine and while she smiled sheepishly and wiped the sweat from her forehead, I didn't know how to handle the situation at all. My companion was cleaning and the woman whose wages I was paying had nothing better to do than rest comfortably.

I must have been wrong in the house.

"Oh, I see you have a new cleaning lady."

Melania stepped into the house next to me and spread her poison, causing Jade to grip the mop in her hand even tighter. You could literally feel the tension in the air from one second to the next, and now it was up to me to ensure calm here. "Yes, and apparently there is still dirt here that urgently needs to be removed," Jade snapped back aggressively and was about to attack Melania with the wet mop when I took it from her and grabbed her arm to pull her up the stairs behind me. "You!", I addressed Martha sternly while walking. "Get your job done!"

"Are you okay?!" Jade snapped at me in horror, but I grabbed her arm even tighter and didn't stop until we got to the bathroom. I let go of her, closed the door and glared at her.

"Do you have any idea how much you've embarrassed me?!" I yelled a little louder than I intended and then got so close that she had to look up at me. I felt sorry for being like that to her, especially when I looked into her beautiful green eyes now, but it didn't go on like this. She made me a joke.

"In front of whom am I embarrassing you? In front of Martha, who has knee and back problems and is grateful for every break? Or in front of Miss Smurfette?"

She glared at me angrily while crossing her petite arms which somehow looked totally cute. If the situation hadn't been so heated, I would have loved to just hug her tightly and inhale her wonderful scent. Stay strong!

"Before my pack!"

She rolled her eyes, which almost made me lose control.

I didn't even know why she was like that. Was she trying to provoke me on purpose, or was she just unaware of what I needed to project as an alpha? How would that come across when word gets out that I have my mate cleaned and she treats me like she doesn't have a shred of respect for me.

"I think it's just embarrassing for you to have a mate like me. Celebrate with your oh so great pack, that's so important to you!"

She didn't look at me anymore, disappeared past me through the door and left only pain and regrets...

But not with me.

I quickly followed her and when I got to her room, I grabbed her hand again.

*****

That idiot!

Inwardly cursing his arrogance, I angrily ran into my room, but instead of giving me space, he immediately followed me and grabbed my hand, which I immediately snatched from him, overwhelmed.

"Jade," he admonished me and again his typical alpha look was on me. Didn't he actually realize that he wasn't getting any further with me?

"Silvan," I replied in the same tone and then stood in front of him again with my arms crossed. I eyed his black hair, which he must have styled specially for the party, and got even more angry that Miss Smurfette probably liked it too.

"Don't you understand that this isn't about me? You can do whatever you want all day long, but this isn't about me, or you, it's about my rank, which is being ridiculed by your behavior!"

His voice sounded stern, his gaze even stern and straight, when I wanted to roll my eyes again, he took my chin in his hand to look deep into my eyes, which made me wince.

My heart was beating like crazy, driven by anger and desire in equal measure. This chaos would tear me apart.

"Don't you understand that I am the way I am. I can't watch an old woman clean up my mess. I can't help being so childish and stubborn at times! Just accept it!"

Single tears filled my eyes and I bit my lower lip in embarrassment, because this feeling that he only liked me because of the connection was kind of killing me, because despite the short time, there were feelings in me. Feelings that came to the surface more and more and looking into his eyes I realized that it wasn't just the connection on my part. There was more...

"I really don't care about your rank or the pack. I like you Silvan, not as an alpha, but as my companion...", I then admitted hurt and it drove me crazy to show myself so honestly to him after I was so angry with him.

"You like me as your companion.." he repeated my words in a whisper and suddenly changed his entire stance. His grip on my chin loosened, his eyes brightened a bit and the tone of his voice softened as well.

"Yes, you idiot. But I don't like it when you always act like you care more about your reputation than I do. And above all, I don't like that you brought this beast here with you!"

I couldn't see any way out other than to be perfectly honest. All this bickering and fighting over who is the stubborn one was slowly but surely exhausting me more and more. I just wanted everything to work between us.

"My reputation isn't more important to me," he breathed, tenderly wiping my tears away before taking my face protectively in his hands. "Only my father, Jade. It's so difficult to please him. My mother bears the consequences for my wrongdoing. I can't take it all..." I looked at him sympathetically and immediately understood that he really wasn't just concerned about himself. I regretted my impulsive action, but not that I had helped Martha. I would do that again at any time.

"So what do we do now?" I asked hesitantly, trying not to sound too desperate.

He let go of my face, took a deep breath, and then walked past me to the window, which overlooked the sun setting on the horizon.

"You can do as much as you want around the house yourself, but Martha stays. Then she just does simple things."

He turned to me and I nodded in agreement before taking a step towards him.

"I want you to treat me as equals and just be you at home and not the alpha of a pack."

His eyes looked thoughtful for a moment, until he held out his hand and nodded in agreement, just like I did before. I took his hand and then stood at his side to look out the window with him.

"Oh, and I want you to stop attacking people with crutches, mops or whatever," he said, still half amused and I immediately gasped defensively.

"That Smurfette doesn't deserve anything else! Besides, I'm sure it's not called mops," I replied, amused, and he turned to me, eyebrow raised.

"Then what is the plural of mop?"

His stupid grin made me smile, and not knowing the answer to that stupid question, I just giggled, shrugged, and started guessing. "Bugs?"

He laughed out loud and I couldn't resist a hearty laugh either.

If only it were always that easy with him...

Our laughter stopped and suddenly there was only desire in his dark eyes. In mine, probably too... In moments like this, I felt that he felt something for me too. More than just the connection.

We had finally at least talked to some extent about how the other was feeling and I really had high hopes that as long as we separated pack and home we could make each other really happy.

"Shall we go down then?" I asked after a moment of silence, whereupon he placed his hand on my cheek and my breathing quickened at his gentle touch.

"They can wait," was the last thing he said before he placed his lips on mine and pulled me into a wild, stormy kiss that threw me completely off track with my eyes closed.

He pushed me backwards so that my calves bumped against the frame of my bed and, totally caught up in that breathtaking kiss, I let myself fall and pulled him onto the bed with me, where he wedged himself between my legs and really all of my senses brought to a standstill. Damn he had an effect on me!

I lay under his trembling body with my eyes closed and surrendered completely to his gentle touch.

His lips were stormy on mine and the tingling, which usually just disappeared after a few seconds, stayed the whole time this time. In addition, my heart was racing like crazy and when I could feel his excitement even through my pants between my legs, it stopped again and again because of the excitement.

Eager for more of him, I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling even tighter while feeling the heat in my cheeks, almost going to my head with all the aroused tension between us, as well as his smell, which I kept absorbing deeply.

I didn't even dare to open my eyes because I didn't want this feeling to ever go away.

It was too good for that, too complete, too perfect....

As he then grabbed me tightly around the waist and lightly nudged my lips with his tongue, I opened my mouth with a soft moan and allowed his tongue in to feel the sparks fly throughout my body. My mind went completely blank at that moment.

It was a wild fire that he kindled here and I would no longer be able to defend myself against him. Never again! I was too engrossed in his effect on me, too addicted to his lips making me forget everything else.

Goosebumps formed on my abdomen as his warm hand slowly brushed over it, finding its way under my white sweater.

It was just us and our hearts beating way too fast...

I was only too happy to let it happen. Also allowed his hand to move higher and higher and he began to breathe heavily as he reached my chest and grabbed it tightly.

At the same moment, his kiss became even more intense, his tongue even more stormy and even his arousal, which already seemed huge to me, grew a bit further.

"Silvan," I then suddenly heard Igor knocking on the door and then opened my eyes in shock to look closely into his dark ones, which only reflected pure l**t. But he still didn't stop, even though I started to get uncomfortable.

"Silvan?"

It knocked again and I could literally feel the anger building up inside him.

Gasping for air, he pulled away from my lips, pulled his hand out from under my sweater, and then stood up, growling, to fix his black pants first.

I just lay there frozen during this. Had to deal with this excess of feelings before I could catch my breath and looked at him embarrassed.

He smiled as if he were happier than ever and ran a hand through his hair with a smile, before obligingly holding out his hand, which I gratefully accepted.

"Everything okay?" he asked and I just nodded embarrassed because somehow I had the feeling that I still lacked the oxygen in my lungs. My body just seemed full of butterflies... There was nothing else.

I let him help me up and then stopped right in front of him to look deep into his eyes. It felt like years that we stood here. As if I've known him all my life and if Igor hadn't knocked again at that moment, we probably would have just stood there for hours. Silvan took a deep breath, broke away from me and yanked open the door with such force that I was briefly afraid she would fly towards me.

"Igor, I swear to you that I'll bury you alive in the forest!" he growled at the poor bald guy who was staring back and forth between us with wide eyes.

"It's your party," he said, puzzled, but Silvan's body was still shaking with anger.

I quickly ran the few steps towards the two, took Silvan's hand in mine and gently stroked his skin with my thumb.

"He's right," I then tried to calm him down and to my surprise, he immediately reacted calmly to my touch.

"I know," he said, turning in my direction, and before we could exchange a word with Igor, who also looked surprised, he pulled me by his hand downstairs, where suddenly everything seemed full of strangers. Where the hell did they all come from???

When we got to the bottom of the stairs, all I wanted to do was head straight back upstairs, but some guys greeted Silvan and also dragged him to the kitchen island, leaving me completely alone.

I felt the eyes on me. Heard quietly, despite the music, how they talked about me.

"They and Silvan?"

"Is that supposed to be his mate?"

"Haha that's a bottom one, is there such a thing?"

Deep inside I was just hoping that Silvan would come back to me, but one glimpse of the kitchen island and I saw him chattering excitedly to men and women his own age. Of course Smurfette was there too.... After every high comes a low...

choke !!!

Rolling my eyes, my eyes darted to the front door, where he stood and looked at me with a grin.

As always he wore a black shirt with light blue jeans and even from this distance I could see the beautiful wolf pendant on his silver chain.

The brown-blonde curls were perfect and when he called me over with a wave, I continued across the room without paying attention to the others. "I've had enough of this party, shall we sit somewhere outside? I've made provisions too!"

Luckily, the house music was just loud enough for me to understand Bene well. Thankful that he appeared, I nodded and then left the house with him. Sure, I felt kind of stupid going out without telling Silvan, but he just left me alone with strangers who seemed to hate me, so what the heck.

Bene then showed me a bottle of sparkling wine outside, which he expertly opened, and a little further away we sat down on the curb of the street. "Thanks for saving me," I smiled, taking a deep breath, and then calmly took a sip from the bottle of champagne he had handed me. "Always my pleasure."
