My Brother’s Mate
Chapter 104

Emily's POV

I see the army coming in from the west. It must be the seekers. Our vampires shift their attention to the newly approaching army as the originals run to fight off the Pures. I'm not sure where to focus my attention at first. But after spending a moment to think about it. I decide that I should try to avoid the seekers, for my own safety. Plus now would be the perfect time to slip in and try to find Cornelius, and take the blood of the first vampire. The last piece of the puzzle. I hold back and let the originals clear a path through the pure army to the headquarters. I start weaving my way through the battle trying to avoid being recognized or targeted. When I get a mind link from my mom. "Emily?! Oh goddess? EMILY?"

I dash toward her. Terrified of the moment when her mindlink will stop.. I find her near the edge of the battle. She's laying over a pile of ashes. I'm confused. "Mom?" I say to her she turns around and runs over to me.

"Oh! Emily! Oh goddess. I don't know what happened. I could've sworn this was you, but before she turned around.." My mom gently touches the ashes. A vampire must've died right in front of her. I bend down a give her a quick hug.

"I'm so sorry Emily. I'm not used to all this, fighting.."

"It's okay mom. Just try to stay safe."

"Oh dear your leg!" I look down and see the cut. "Here, I've been working on my healing tinctures."

My mom pulls out a small wooden box from her bag. She plucks out a clump of greenish brown paste from the box and spits on it and squishes it in between her fingers. Then she spreads it over my wound.

"There you go! All better." She says looking up at me and smiling. I bend down and rub off the paste from my wound, and what was once a nasty gash is now a thin pinkish line on my leg.

"Woah! Mom I'm impressed." I say, suddenly Cyran runs up to us.

"You two okay?" He asks us.

"Yes we're fine. I made a mistake, and called her over. I'm just not used to all this." Cyan looks at my mom with kind eyes.

"Stay close to me Angela. I'll protect you." Cyran nods at me and I nod back. He grabs my mom and they dash back into the fray of battle. I feel better knowing someone will be actively ensuring my mother will be safe from harm. I look around at the Dawn fighting the Seekers. Where did Luther get all of these new soldiers?!

I notice a particular group of vampires having some trouble with a seeker witch. I cast a shield to protect them. It blocks the spells long enough for one of the vampires to speed out and break the witch's neck. The battle scene is gruesome and I'm fighting to help keep our side well protected against the Seekers. I block another spell and notice Hector near by. He notices me too when I cast a fireball and take out a seeker wolf who was barreling straight for him.

"Help me block their spells and I can take care of the rest." Hector shouts to me while gesturing to a group of seeker witches who are huddled together holding hands. They're probably about to cast a pretty powerful attack. I work quickly, trying to mute their words and break apart their hands. With Hector and I working together, we take them out pretty easily.

We move on to a hoard of seeker wolves. I force shift them back into their vulnerable human forms, and Hector does the rest. We got into a pretty good swing.

"Good job Emily." Hector says. I look at him and smile. Suddenly an arrow plunges through his neck. He falls to his knees and grabs the arrow.

"Hector!" I shout. I reach out to him, but he turns to ash. I will never get used to this gore. The battle is still taking place. I feel rage and anger inside of me, building up from all the people I have lost. I use my anger to fuel my magic. I cast a huge knock back spell, and send seeker soldiers flying back at least 30 feet. Our soldiers advance on them, giving us the edge for now. I take a moment to calm down my rage. Okay I've helped enough, I need to go get Cornelius' blood. Then we can all leave and end this as soon as possible.

I break away from the battle and make my way towards the Pure's castle-like headquarters. I dash around until I find an entrance that isn't guarded too heavily. I find a door in the back with only 2 guards. I cast a spell of weakness, then I run up behind them and knock them both out. I bust through the door and walk inside. I listen to see if I can hear anyone nearby.

Nothing.

I close my eyes and recall my vision. I need to find stairs. I run down a hallway and see a stair case. Yes! I run over to it and as I place my hand on the bannister, Sam talks to me.

"No, we need to go down, not up." I turn around and to try and find a different stairwell. Around a corner and through a room I find one. I follow the stairs down, and down and down. They're leading me underground, it's getting darker the further down I get. Finally the stairs end. I'm standing at the end of a dimly lit tunnel. The walls and ceiling are carved from stone. The floor is stone. There are a few doors in the hall. All made of rusted metal. I make my way slowly through the hallway. This place gives me the creeps. I use Sam and my intuition to guide me. I go through the third door on the right, and down another set of stairs and through a final door. The final door opens up to a grand open cavern. A single light shines down in the center of the room. The ground is stone and the air is quiet and still. Even though there is a battle happening up on the surface, it's as still as can be down here. I walk towards the center of the room. The light is shining on a man lying on a stone bed.

Cornelius, the first vampire. This is just like my vision. I pull three vials from my pocket. I reach out and take his hand, which is laying on his chest. He has long white hair that falls over the side. His eyes are closed. I pull a small sharp dagger from my pocket and make a small but deep cut on the side of his palm. Cornelius doesn't move.

Okay thank goddess.

I fill up the first vial with his blood, then the second, and then the third. Half a drop of this blood is enough to transform anyone into a vampire. I seal the vials and press against the cut, stopping his bleeding. I place his hand gently back on his chest. And look back at Cornelius, searching for any signs of liveliness. Still, nothing.

I can't help but smirk at my success. I've done it! I've collected all three parts. I leave quickly and quietly winding my way back up towards the surface. When I get back I'll make another announcement. I'll instruct all the members of the dawn to leave the battle as quickly as possible. I'll gather a few witches and we'll cast a projection to distract the armies while we make our escape. By the time they realize they're only fighting a mirage it will be too late. We'll be long gone.

I make it to the back door and slip outside, suddenly I feel a sharp pain in the back of my head and then darkness.
